Or sell the g27 and buy a t500 shifter

Thank you xTc,
Actually my wheel does work (after unplugging the G27); I am currently looking for a solution regarding the use of G27 shifter with it, and how/if I need to use profiles.

Offtopic-ish: I did find out something new though - didn't know about the Cronusmax . Does it really works plugging your T500 / G27 into an xbox360 ? Would be cool

While im here i thought i would do a quick review.

I have only ever owned a microsoft xbox madcatz mc2 wheel so im not going to claim to be a wheel expert. I have however played with a g25, g27 and a fanatec.

I also compete in real motorsports and have driven more race/street cars than most people due to working throughout the auto industry in various roles including a salesperson at all major brands. So I have driven pretty much all of the common supercars and normal passenger vehicles currently available. I also own a performance workshop which gives me the opportunity to drive some awesome race cars.

I feel this is all relevant because at the end of the day racing sims are designed to replicate the real thing and having plenty of experience in the real thing i can give a good review.

Ill break it down into 3 main sections wheel, pedals, shifter and follow up with a conclusion.

Wheel
First off this wheel looks really impressive and well finished. The size feels right the buttons are all in relatively easy positions to reach and the overall mechanical feel is quite solid. One thing I would change is that the paddle shifters don't move with the wheel which is probably more of a personal preference thing they do however do what there designed to do and do it well. The buttons have a nice solid click to them and feel quite good. The grip is made of rubber which alot of people complain about but i don't mind because it gives plenty of grip. Driving with this wheel is amazing it feels extremely close to the real thing and once you get the settings right to your driving style the only major thing that is missing is not feeling g forces as you corner which no wheel will ever be able to replicate.

Pedals
The pedals are quite a neat setup if you ask me they don't require addons to flip them like the fanatecs and they have a nice solid construction. They come shipped in what thrustmaster call the f1 style which felt ok but not quite what im used to so i ended up flipping them to the Gt style. I was really impressed with the feel of the pedals especially with the level of adjustment these feel like the real deal. My only problem is that when i went to install the real brake mod the supplied allen key stripped one of the bolts and i was unable to remove it. I think this could be fixed quite easily if Thrustmaster used torx headed bolts instead as they tend to strip less often apart from that these are fantastic pedals.

Shifter
I opted to get the additional shifter and am extremely happy I did even tho it looks like a gated shifter it really doesn't feel like one while your using it and touch wood i have not missed a gear yet. The gear changes feel crisp and pretty realistic compared to everything else i have ever played with and the mounting setup holds it still really well. The only thing i would change about the shifter is the ability to plug it straight into the wheel. I think this would be a better setup because you would then be able to plug this whole setup into a single usb port and be able to use the wheel with something like a cronusmax which would enable you to play this on an xbox. Probably not important to most people but having a xbox one and forza 5 id really like to play it with this wheel. I also like that it acts as both a h pattern and sequential once you change over the faceplate very nifty thinking.

Conclusion
So to wrap it all up i think this setup is definately a good investment. I live in Australia and it cost me $740 AUD all up which isn't cheap considering a g27 is $300 AUD but i still feel pleased with my purchase because the quality is pretty good and the pedals and shifter have the ability to change to suit your driving style.

Having plenty of motorsport experience in real life i think this wheel is absolutely essential if you want a sense of realism on LFS. It provides a level of immersion i have yet to feel from any other wheel. It does this by returning to centre in a straight line, it shakes over ripple strips, it auto corrects and turns with the momentum of the vehicle when you initiate a slide. There is room for improvement but at the end of the day there is only little things that need to be changed and they probably wont bother most people.

Thanks for your replys. It looks that just unplugging the G27 solves most of the problem. Afterwards, it's just finding the good balance in forces. It's a pitty though, that I cannot use my H-shifter anymore .

What about "profiles" ? Is it possible to create/manage ? Are they needed ? (I was using them a lot with logitech profiler, because of the "recommended" settings in different games: rF, LFS, AC, ...). Is there a solution for t500 ?

Definitely unplug the G27. I'd suggest unplugging the G27 then reboot.

My settings are as follows:

Unplug the g27 and see if you get the same ffb feeling.
Setting up the T500RS

Hi,
Could a owner of a T500RS give me some pointers to set this thing up, pls ? I just upgraded from G27, and I can't yet find the same/better feeling. There's basically no FFB resistance in game..

Also, is there a way to handle different settings for different games ? (like the Logitech Profiler does).

I am using tthe T500, but I have also kept the G27 connected in order to use the H-shifter.
Thank you.

PS:I have used the search function, but it's very difficult to find the informations.. every thread is either unanswered either a me vs you war..

Quote from Boris Lozac :Who praised 458 earlier? It feels like a mobile phone game, interesting as paint drying..

After driving the F40 so much everything else is going to feel boring. The 458 with semi slicks I already thought was good, but the new S3 version is epic once you start getting on the limit and you are constantly fighting the edge of the tires as it has no downforce.

Obviously it isn't old, and it has full blown slicks, but finding the limit is finding the limit and will almost always be fun. At least it isn't some FWD.

Also for G27 settings I use 100 gain with the bottom 3 settings as 5%, 10%, 20%.

Quote from J.B. :Or could it be that my old DFP is just too sluggish to give me enough feel for AC?

In a word, yes.

Given how much wheels have improved since 2003 when the DFP was released, it stuns me that people are still using something that is way too numb and slow compared to the driving pleasure that modern wheels offer. G25/G27 is what I'd think of being the current standard of affordable wheels, T500 and CSW being in the enthusiast tier.

Quote from DickDastardly :1. It would be really great to have an option to match the rotation of your virtual driver's steering wheel to your real steering wheel rather than the car's. This would be a purely visual change but would greatly increase the immersion for Rift users and improve the illusion of inhabiting your virtual driver's body, an illusion which is currently slightly spoiled when you rotate your real wheel 90 degrees but see your virtual driver rotate the virtual wheel two or three times as much.

It depends on the steering wheel you use.

In LFS, each car has it's own steering wheel rotation set - road cars have 720°, GTR's have 540° etc. (full list here). If you have a wheel with an adjustable rotation, like Logitech G25/G27, you need to set the same amount of degrees in the Logitech Profiler to match the rotation in game, or set the wheel turn compensation in LFS to 1.00 and 900° in the profiler. In the latter case, you will not have those "ff stops" on both locks, but you will not have to fiddle around with the rotations every time you change your car (well there is an app which changes those values for you but that's not the point).

If you own a wheel with a fixed rotation, then I'm afraid it's not possible to match your wheel's rotation to that in game. Some wheels have only 360° or so, which means if you take a car with more "real" rotation, you will experience what you described in your post.

I hope I'm right with everything

Ah ok no problem. In case you are still wondering about it, the way G25/G27 shifter works, it's like a joystick converted in to shifter. It has two potentiometers inside, so the position of the shifter is actually converted in to a corresponding "button".

I'm going to answer my question here, in case anyone else is wondering. Yes, G25 clamps are the same than G27 ones.

BTW after one hour of usage the G25 shifter started acting up again, so I decided to give up on trying to fix it so now I'm a G27 user. I have to say the G27 actually feels a lot better after the initial "weirdness". Only downside is the lack of sequantial mode for the shifter and the less attractive looking wheel.

If I ever need to replace just the shifter, yes, I'm aware of the rewire. Or possibly use the Leo Bodnar thingy what converts shifter to it's own device.

I'm planning on just using the G27 as a whole, so it's not a problem right now.
That's why I'm asking if the G25 clamps would fit to the G27, because the G27 I'm buying tomorrow has one of them broken off.

I just opened the G25 shifter and tinkered with it a bit. Seems like I was able to get it working better now, only the damn reverse gear won't pop in.

Anyway I'm going to buy the G27 and then decide which wheel will sit and wait as a backup.
Quick question about G25/G27 clamps

I own a G25 wheel and after years of usage it's shifter has started to show some wear. Potentiometers don't work properly and this results with the correct gears not staying on.

My friend has a spare G27 and I'm about to buy it from him for a cheap price. Only problem is that one of the G27's mounting clamps have broken.
I'm assuming the clamps are same between G25 and G27? So I could just swap one out of my current G25 for the G27.

If anyone knows the answer I'd appreciate a quick reply, thanks.

Clutch release
pmw

Hello,

I just figured out that clutch in LFS works pretty strange, I think.

In options, if I calibrate my clutch it works perfectly fine. If I push my clutch all-way down, calibrate-bar shows zero. OK, then I'll slowly release my clutch and bar increases perfectly. Really smooth and accurate movement.

So, calibration works 100% fine.

----

Well, in game, I've activated acc/brake/clutch bars, located to bottom-right of my screen.

I'm sitting in my car, change gear to first, and start to release my clutch. At the same time, I'm looking at the clutch-bar, it grows up and nothing happens, until ~80-90% of movement, clutch releases extremely fast and my car stalls.

So, clutch works yes, I can drive it. But it doesn't work smoothly. Atleast on normal cars, XRG,XFG,XRT,FXO etc, I think there should be normal smooth clutch to play with?

I couldn't find anything from options related to this, am I missing something or is this just how clutch works in LFS?

I'm using Logitech G27 and newest version of LFS.

Haha, yes I have also heard that after having either a T500RS or CSW, all other wheels feel like toys. Additionally, I see that you are also the founder of Fanaleds which seems to add even more of an incentive to have a Fanatec wheel.

I appreciate your input on this subject, as I am prepared to make the investment if I feel it adds a benefit to immersion. I am the type of person who is not necessarily looking for the best lap times, but the best immersion. For the longest time I would not even buy racing games simply because they did not feel real enough and were a waste of my time and money. However, just trying the G27 on LFS and it feels awesome. I just want the most immersive experience I can get for the money. And the CSW, is quite steep, but still in my price range.

Ahh, okay. Thanks for the insight. It possibly was the setup of the wheel, but after three of us testing both the G27 and the CSR we all agreed the CSR felt inadequate and just slow. I have seen some instances of the CSW being quite responsive, but others have also mentioned its lack of countersteer speed which is necessary for immersion while drifting.
