A belt does not mean it's less responsive. I would say the opposite. I can't imagine that the CSR is (that much) slower than a G27. The CSR wheel is totally different from the CSW. Also don't forget there's much to set up which could make it better. There's practically no resistance from the hardware itself.
Ahh ok, my question was because using the G27, which is gear driven it seemed very responsive versus the Fanatec CSR wheel another friend has. Gear driven just seemed to be far quicker and felt more real. This is simply because the belt has an inherit resistance where gear drives dont. However, I wondered if the CSW having two motors could actually react fast enough where im not having to spin the wheel and rather just catch it like real drifting.
Well, if I had gotten out when I started playing LFS, rather than keep playing and having fun as I did, I think it would have been far less likely for me to have purchased my G27. Or even keep this hobby at all. It's been almost five years since I started playing LFS!
The only thing dragging me to LFS (and simulators in general) was that I could play them. There's no point in watching a virtual simulator on a screen with someone else playing; you want to be part of the action, and if not possible, I'd rather go to a racetrack and watch real cars. Mouse made it possible to participate with competitive times with people on wheels, and still be very fun.
Interest gets high enough to justify spending money on a wheel.
...
Actually, in my case that's all bulls* and it was just a random incident. But it's still possible, though.
I actually wanted to purchase an iPad, but they've just announced an iPad Air coming so I'm not purchasing the current generation a month or two before the latest gets released.
I had never driven a G27 or Gran Turismo 5 before, at all. The only driving wheel I had driven (not taking real cars into account) was an old PS1 wheel that barely turned 45º to either side, didn't have FFB at all (it would vibrate when you crashed the car, though) and had a huge dead center.
That, until I played with the G27 on Gran Turismo 5 at a co-workers home. He's a passionate racing fan, goes to almost every race (mostly Formula 1) in my country and plays GT5 a lot. I won the race every time I played against him, with any cars we tried (also won against the other 4 co-workers, too).
Playing with them was so fun I purchased a G27 too. That, and the fact the iPad Air is still some time before release in my country, so I'll have the money for iPad by the time gets released...
I can't imagine you need that much FFB in-game, even on a G27. I think something around 30-40% in-game is fine. I remember I used 101% and then twice zero in the profiler screen (pretty much like the link posted).
hello , for a while now iam talking about getting the g27 wheel and for all kind of reasons it took some time , well tomarow iam finelly going to get it !!!
any advice on how to setup it correctly for lfs to get the most out of the wheel ?

do i need to change all kind of setting when driving diffrent cars ?

Yeah so I have got some free time now, though I have to train for the next racing season and a lot of school stuff. Also the last few years have been hectic so no time for LFS and other games. This year I raced in Formula Ford, finishing second and being the best rookie (10 poles, 5 wins) and in 2012 I raced KF3 and CIK-FIA Academy Trophy winning the championship in the latter, so I can be pretty quick with a little time. Nice to be back
I haven't driven on Assetto Corsa yet, but having tried drifting in iRacing and failing miserably with a G27, I must say this after watching your video: you are insane!
As someone that drift irl I find points system in every game to be stupid, I'm yet to see anything that really rewards good drifting.
The e30 on the new drift track feels so good, just need to work out a way to get my joystick working as the handbrake, pushing a button on my g27 shifter feels so wrong.
Oh my bad, u can adjust degrees of rotation, u must use the asc.exe not the asseto corsa.exe in windows profiler, Just set the e92m3 steering to 520' degrees 900' felt like I am driving VW passat, but now the virtual wheel don't mach my g27, I locked the wheel in AC options, adjusted onboard camera/fov, that i don't see the wheel that much, and gained 60 fps (~150 fps with virtual wheel on)
edit: dman KTM feels amazing with 520' degrees, and 260fps
and personally, anything is better than LFS at this point in time.
there has been 2 moments in LFS where i really felt refreshed, the first was switching from a 240 degree momo to a G27, the second was teaching my ex girlfriend how to drift.
they both have 1 thing in common, they both had nothing to do with LFS development.
fanatec are hard to find but check with your local gaming stores , you should find somthing .
where i come frome , the g27 is just alittle cheaper then fanatec gt3rs with pedles and shifter.
Well im not a 24/7 sim racer since I race in real life, but wouldnt hurt to get a better wheel than DFGT for a decent amount of money.
So I found a used G27 on sale for 270$ with Warranty (1.5 year left till it expires) and the bill (showing the what store where and when it was bought) , as a racer I really miss the clutch and the shifter, so is it worth buying the G27? Is it a endurable wheel? How does it handle 4~5 hour races?
Thanks in advance!
It's in the belt driven force feedback IMO. And the load cell brake on the CSR Elite pedals and the hydraulic brake on the Club Sport Pedals.
Now. I only have the GT3 wheel with CSR E brake. And I have picked up a colossal amount of time that I didn't have on my G27. As for a toy construction? Not sure what weed you are on. My GT3RS is sturdy enough and the shifter is an aluminum handle and shaft with a little longer throw than the G27 (CSR shifter not CSW). The pedals are made out of aluminum and are no joke. Very easy to customize and there's a sensitivity knob right behind the brake so you don't need to play around for each individual game or with program profilers. I also love the on LED-screen adjustments so you can adjust your wheel lock, ffb, etc etc all on the go even while driving
For me the high resolution of the throttle and brake allow a lot of control. As a matter of fact I went from 1800 to 3000 iRating on iRacing.com after I swapped wheels. Basically you start at 1500, and 3000 is about the average of the top split races. So it's not a bad iRating. My point besides, I have much better feel in the wheel than my g27 had and the more precise pedals allow me to control the car much better and even feel the lock up threshold more easily. Especially helpful in a road car in LFS
In my opinion - you should try a Fanatec if you know someone who has one. It may take a while to get used to but I think it's more enjoyable.
@Matrixi, that DSD quick release cost 40 dollars itself, good try though.
well i can pick the full lot up for £350 brand new after factoring in the price i can sell the G27 for.
ive seen mods to make the throw of the gearstick shorter which id be interested in, one think i do like with the g27 shifter is i can stick it on the desk.
i would only really use the 458 wheel the standard rim would sit in its box forever or until someone needed one for a replacement i guess..
i do like the G27 but the knocking thing is starting to do my crust in (english for annoying) and its pretty much the only reason why im thinking about replacing it.
Depends on how much you can get your hands on it. I don't really find it that much better quality-wise compared to a G27. Yes, it's faster and more silent and more accurate, but it still feels cheap IMO.
