G25 are not reliable, I had mine for 2 years, first the wheel started to lose allignment, it would be okay with light steering but any forceful counter-steer would throw it 3-5 degrees out.

Second the reverse gear broke randomly one day, I always made sure that I didn't use the fragile little gear shifter too rough but yet it still broke.

The big final that caused me to throw it in the rubbish was that it went up in smoke, one day I was playing when i started smelling something burning, my force feed back went dead and smoke pourd from the wheel casing.

I bought a G27 after that and havn't had a problem.

I got a g27 since a year and a half and if I could go back I would definitely get a fanatec gt3. I got some serious noise issues on pCars under certain circumstances but not much in LFS. If money is not a problem hell go for this one:
http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/ ... 9e80c99981e721e6b2d723910

You'll get a more silent FFB wheel (belt driven instead of plastic gears) with 3 FFB motors, amazing pedals with adjustable load cell brake, solid shifter console made of metal entirely since recently. You'll also have the feeling to have a real wheel instead of a plastic toy.. but that's just my opinion.

Many peoples had issues with the G27, most didn't. Same can be said about Fanatec wheels but they are made by a passionate entrepreneur who seem to enjoy sim racing unlike the other one.

Good luck with your purchase!

Quote from pärtan :I've had my G25 for 3 years. I've been really brutal on it. It's got a crack in the gear housing (which is made out of plastic) but it doesn't stop it from working fine. People complain about deadzone and stuff like that, I don't have any complains other than the sound. And since the G27 follows the same design but is far more quieter, I'd say go for the G27.

And get the same problem with plastic that's cracking? Why would you want that.

Biggest problem for me is the lack of feel/FFB in the center with the G25/G27. If you don't know better it's fine, but when you try another wheel (the T500R also) it just feels silly.

Reading your comments guys, it seems like G27 has pedal problems (frequent). Not to mention mysterious centering problems..

What about Fanatec ? Does it have weak sides ?

I own a G25, and I'm happy with it. Despite the spiking in the pedals that is a common issue affter a few years of use, it is still giving me good fun.

In my experience, this is the biggest and most frequent problem you'll run into with the G27.

Remember that people usually post when they have a problem with something. Almost anybody says "hey, I bought my G27 and it works OK" if you do not ask them . Specially in Logitech's official forums

Thanks for your positive responses regarding G27. I was really disappointed when I first read logitech forums about G27 issues..
What about Fanatec vs G27 ? Which one is better (in LFS) ?

If G27 isn't enough for you, I suppose you have to go with Fanatec..

I've had G27 for few years, and I know shitloads of people who have it or G25 and have had no problems mostly.. It's reliable. :/

Reliable wheel

Hello, I am new here. Though registered like 4 years ago.
I would like to purchase a G27, but it seems like many people have problems with it, missing degrees, centering problems etc.

So I would like you to advice me which wheel to buy. I am interested only in 3 pedal system with clutch, force feedback etc etc, in other words, with all the stuff.
Since I am new to this, I have no clue which ones are good..

P.S.
Reliability goes first. Money is not a problem.
Help with blackwood lap time please!

Hi, I need some tips on how to get better lap time with the XF GTi on Blackwood track.
I have achieved respectable lap times around the 1.36 mark while racing online but I can't get better. Is it my setup or is it my lines? Is there a video out there that can show me good lines and a good setup?
The way I'm trying to get better is that I'm trying to race a "PRO" GTi and win and I just can't its so frustrating.
I'm using a Logitech G27 wheel.

Any tips or links with info would be great.

thanks
Nick

Thanks for advice.

@bothy
yeah...that last race i got mobile call from my girl
i was down to 1sec beatwen second place, than again up to 5-6 seconds after mobile call ...than i got that guy with blue flag..one lap or two ...at end i lose contratacion ...bam...

btw. that inRacingNews Challenge ... dont like it ..not yet ..beacouse of setups..at mazda cup everyone drive same set...

And that button clutch...i asked on iracing forum.
Its possible 2 use button clutch and aid bip at the same time?

I would have to agree, I've been playing LFS for a long long time, and feel like the money I paid for my S1 then S2 license has been well rewarded.

The sim runs so well on my old'ish P.C, and a few tweeks to my new G27 and I was a very happy boy. Like I posted above I think I became lost in all the sims of the time, and still have them on my P.C, NetkarPro, rFactor, GPL, iRacing, GTR2, RBR, yet Live for Speed in my opinion stands well clear of all of them.

Needless to say tomorrow I will be testing it some more, and hopefully next week I will set about ordering my cockpit

Especially for a realistic racing game like LFS I suggest you buy a good wheel like G25 or G27. Even if it costs a bit more, you'll be more pleased with it than with DFGT or other cheaper wheels. If you're low on budget, you can get one on ebay.

Should you in any case figure out sim racing is not for you, you'll still have a good chance of getting it sold since good wheels are more popular than these cheap ones. In other case, the G2* is something you'll enjoy for years.

G27 Broken Wheel Position Sensor

Ok, so recently my G27 stopped responding to steering input. I've had this problem before, but I fixed it by tightening a screw on one of the motors as suggested in this link.

Anyway, when the same thing happened again. I assumed it would be the same fix. That wasn't the case. As it turned out, the position feedback sensor's slitted wheel was cracked in three areas. Thus it was loose on the shaft and not doing its job. I read somewhere that superglue-ing it to the shaft should be a sufficient fix. Long story short, I messed it up. Glue got in slits, and I attempted to clear the slits by the use of a needle. This led to permanently damaging this part. Anyway, my only fix now seems that I need to get a replacement part. Any ideas?

I tried calling Logitech, but they don't sell these parts separately, and I can't have them fix it because the wheel is out of warranty. They offered me a new wheel half price though. Which is a nice gesture, but I'm not paying $150 because of a little plastic part that shouldn't cost more than $1.

Pics of the part

Quote from Whiskey :The main con of DFGT is the noise it makes, plus its slow force feedback.

True about noises it is pretty loud at least at the very beginning (Not sure either noises quite down later or I am just getting used to it)
About FFB I cant say I have first hand experience with other wheels but I remember watching vid on youtube where DFP, DFGT and G27 were placed one next to another and tested.
Force Feedback in DFP was noticeably slower but DFGT and G27 had similar times and strength of FFB.

I disagree with opinion that it is better to buy DFGT for a beginning as a starter wheel because:
Well lets be honest you dont buy wheel only for a beginning, DFGT its not cheap (at least not for me) so if you buy DFGT and then decide to go for G27 (for example), you will lose part of money you spend on DFGT even if you sell it later.
If DFGT its the most you can afford, it definetelly will be worth you money but if you can afford something better and you are into simracing then go for something with clutch and shifter.
I have selfmade clutch and currently I am making H shifter for DFGT but I have to say that clutch and shifter makes a difference and If I knew earlier how great the difference would be I would go for something with clutch and shifter from the very beginning.

The main con of DFGT is the noise it makes, plus its slow force feedback.

Add to that, the pedals quality, the clutch, etc, and try to guess what feets better your needs. It's up to you decide if these thing are worth the overprice of a G27 (or second hand G25, if there is still anyone).

Yes it good but if you can, better go for something that have H shifter and clutch.
Racing without rev matching and heel and toe its not the same, and without clutch you are limited in drifting techniques.

After DFGT i think its logitech G27 with clutch and H shifter that is often being recommended and there are quite a few wheels that are considered good so in the end you are limited by your budget.

What kind of team are you looking for? Race

Age: 15

Country: Denmark

Preferred Car/Track: All cars and tracks, except for the RAC. I hate that car!

Average Laptime on Your Preferred Car/Track:As i said before i like all of the tracks and cars (no RAC). My averages are +2-5 seconds after WR. But i rarely spin the car and i keep off the grass and sand. I'm an average driver, and I know how to control the cars in the game

How Active Are You? Pretty active. Around 2 hours a day.

What Kind of Control do you use? I'm a pro so of course i use a G27 Racing wheel.

Quote from Victor :
-Now we want to take LFS to the next level by upgrading the physics. I guarantee you, you have no idea of how difficult this is. Give everyone a giant CPU and GPU and sure it's fairly easy to develop a super accurate racing sim. But you know, it doesn't work like that. LFS needs to run on slower machines as well. So shortcuts to better physics need to be found, without producing weird side effects. You go and try that. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Thanks Victor for posting at all, nice to see!

Though I'd pose the same question here back to you guys - I think it's clear after this amount of time that Scawen didn't and likely still doesn't know the magnitude of difficulty involved. Not to sound pessimistic, but if the time the man (who is clearly brilliant) has been working on this has to be measured in years, then I do have to wonder about the concept of realistic possibility. I guess only he has any remote idea where he may be in the process of granulating and distilling the new tyre physics; but not knowing where you'll end up once it runs on an abacus might be setting you and your fanbase up for a massive disappointment.

Listen, if you can't even see the difference in the end then it seems that years will be spent perfecting the last 15% of a feel that nobody who played LFS long enough to appreciate it will be able to tell anymore because they haven't run LFS in almost the same amount of time this development is taking.

Not even sure why I'm saying this I'll probably get nailed as being negative, so I'm sorry for that. I wish you guys all the best and I genuinely hope you're still making some dough from LFS, it was/is a great sim and worth every penny 10 times over.

Quote :So no, it isn't 'tough shit' for people wthout mega PCs. What complete and utter nonsense.

Anyone who actually sim races as a hobby has a wheel, and therefore can afford a basic rig as Homeless already indirectly informed you. I suppose you know a lot of people that use a laptop with their G27 right? Sure thing Alan. Don't you have a chandelier to shine or something? He didn't say HE can build a "4gb/3zsjs/ram.dhewjd,jpg.exe" as you so intelligently put it, he said that you can buy a beast rig for peanuts by LFS standards. I hope that clarifies it for you, there's no need to jump on the guy for making a simple, valid point.

Preferred Car/Track: XRT & FZ50, still learning the S2 tracks

Average Laptime on Your Preferred Car/Track: Pretty good angles, I clip the apex & stay off dirt for the most part. I gotta work on my exit angles & my entry speed is inconsistent at times, but I rarely spin out & overall car control isn't half bad.
