unless I am mistaken this idea is now implemented isn't it? I recall after a certain patch, I was in a race - and both me and the other guy had to vote before it restarted peace out!

The generosity of the demo is something which made the game attractive to me in the first place.

Demo's which limit time or amount of plays make you feel like the developers are trying to force you into a quick sale.

LFS on the other hand, they've said "here's a track and a few cars, go for it! - and if you want more, you're welcome to buy"

If LFS had it's time over, I would probably vote the demo should be XFG+XRG only right from the beginning, even those cars alone combined with the track and unlimited use is damn generous in comparison to other demos.

However as it is now, its unfeasible to suddenly take the XRT out, its taking something away which was available before. People wouldn't move to the latest version, instead remaining on the last demo that featured the XRT

People do live full time in the demo, I myself played it for about a year I think, before I suddenly decided to buy a license. I had the money, sure, but somehow it was too difficult, until my parents let me use their credit card.

I guess that brings us back to another problem - if LFS cost 15pounds for S1 and 30pounds for S2 - available boxed in game stores meaning people can buy with cash, I am sure alot more demo users would go out and buy it. It's just the whole "online thing" of using the credit card or money orders, where people put up the stone wall (ie. "I haven't got enough money!!") or just throw it in the "too hard basket"...

.... and then go for another 3lap race at blackwood

Here is a LFS social experiment! 8 Lane tenpin bowling.

it seems to work best using the UF1. upon starting the map, reverse the car back until you're at the line (ie, as in the picture above). then floor it and hit the tyre (ball) at full speed. if you hit it square on, it will roll down the alley and strike the pins

you have to wait for all of the hit objects to disappear before you can determine your final score.

and to reset all the objects you can either pit (the pit is far enough away for everything to reset) or you can just restart

any comments welcome

Quote from PLAYLIFE :Yes, I have the same since patch U. Every 5 seconds or so there is a 0.2-0.3 sec stop of the screen. If it happens on the straight it's not a problem, but when ur racing through BL chicane with another driver, it can make trouble or when correcting a slide. Haven't changed video card or drivers during the time that the patches have changed.

I was having this same issue on my computer too, and also when i closed LFS the sound on my pc always stuttered if i played an mp3 and used a cpu intensive program at the same time. after reboot was fine, just happened after playing lfs

anyway, both issues were fixed with a clean install of windows, so it could be an unrelated issue. i have a nvidia 6600gt

the difference is grass itself is slippery, however the thing that isn't in lfs is the tyre's tendency to dig into the ground when the wheel is locked, or if it's sliding sideways

was I the only person in S1 0.3 who knew the GTI's rear window was skinnable??

(for those who dont know, you either stare at it for a long time until the 2 black dots go together, or simply go crosseyed until you get the dots joined)

Quote from DEVIL 007 :I meant thats its not too far away from the technical point of view.Well most of companies running a lot of their internal networks on our networks so they getting huge discounts for many things.
I cant tell really how much as this could be considered to breaking the company rules and I have signed papers for this but its way too much more they you pay for your home connection and with even slower speed then average ADSL speed avaible on the UK market.

you can download high speeds from the other side of the world, but the problem with gaming on a server on the other side of the world is latency, isn't it?

In a computer network it is an expression of how much time it takes for a packet of data to get from one designated point to another. If the data is streamed or just 1 big file you're downlading, latency has little effect on the speed you can download it, just like a turning on a long garden hose, initially it takes a while for the water to start coming through but once it does the length of the pipe doesn't matter. But in online gaming the data being sent through is being calculated in real time, and as such you want the bit of data ASAP as soon as it comes out of the hosecock hehe

Ok! As some of you may have been aware in the past, I made up a set of 3 Daytona skins for the XRT. I have now created a fourth red car, and also converted the skins to the XRR. All of the original skins have been given a polish also, so if you have downloaded them the first time, best replace them with the new set

Quote from SnprSlick :My FPS is low, I knwo its not a hardware problem because when I play on single player I got 60 FPS no problem. I do join low ping servers. but it still lags.

I hear this alot.... but i'll say again!

Low FPS is not "lag", it's just low FPS!

You say you get 60fps in single player with no problem? have you tried with AI in single player? LFS always takes quite a hit to performance when other cars are onscreen. even on a start grid in an online race, with 6 or so cars nearby the FPS can be quite alot lower than if you're racing by yourself.

Quote from Dygear :I'd like you all to consider something for a moment. What if we used the transparency in png files to give a chrome effect? Think of a proper MP4-21 BF1 skin! Think of Chrome (J Trulli Style) Helmets!

and I'd like you to consider for a moment when someone uploads a skin which is 100% transparent with nothing else on it. we'd end up with bling bling cars and all they'd be missing is the 20inch wheels. for my eyes (and cpu)'s sake, it's a no from me

needless in my opinion.. people whinge about jpg being a lossy format, but who really gives a toss?

when join a lfs server with the current 512x512 skin downloads it can be downloading for 5-15seconds depending how many skins are being used that i currently don't have.

i just did a test of a skin i have made, 1024 one. JPG saved at 224kb, PNG was 464kb. and from what i can see, PNG has no real variation in available quality settings, seeing as it's not "lossy".

JPG is simple and with a small / flexible file size. PNG won't happen guys, but nice thinking.

not really. everyone is in the same boat. euros lag out on our servers and we lag out on theirs

even those who have fast connections still have the same issue, cuz it's simply too far

Monday 7th of August. Blackwood GP

You are first on the start grid out of 8 cars. Glancing sideways you notice a car on the grid beside you. You are in the cockpit of an FXO. There is a steering wheel, pedals, gear shifter and assorted switches here. There is a set of start lights to the north. Gradually counting down, with the final green light about to show.

> Press accelerator

Accelerator pressed. The car lurches in a forwards direction with lots of wheelspin. There are other cars here. There is a tachometer here with a rising needle and gear indicator indication 1st gear. There is a shift light here which turns on.

> Shift up.

You have shifted up. Your lead over the following cars has extended by 1meter. There are other cars here. A right hand turn is approaching. There is a steering wheel here. There is a brake pedal here...

i hope your kidding that first bridge is like a freeway going through, blackwood feels like a proper circuit so the last thing IMO they should do is join it up with some normal roads

and that last one is a pedestrian footbridge!!!
