Thanks for the patch. Has anything changed in the way controllers work? My wheel axis is detected by the Wingman drivers but not by LFS - it works with W though. W9 started giving me troubles with this yesterday too. The pedals work fine, just not the wheel.

EDIT: just to clarify, the axis is in the list, just doesn't move when I move the wheel (black MOMO).

I'm really confused as to why people think it's challenging to release a button on your own at the start and how it would make anyone have a bad start.

Firstly, my apologies to Scawen for posting a suggestion in the patch thread in its late stages, that was a bit silly on my part - I know there's enough work to go into patch X as it stands already.

As for the starts discussion, the only thing that would make them more interesting, and this should be kept optional because it would be admittedly unintuitive at first sight is the suggestion that was floating around long before the patch to use the brake pedal as the clutch at the start and have it automatically switch back to being the brake at some point (either ~5s after the start, or at the press of a button). The non-automatic handbrake option is just silly, IMO. What, you have to release one button as you pull the shift-up paddle? It's just a waste of buttons for people who don't have many and a nuisance. On the other hand, the clutch suggestion actually adds some skill to it and you can be faster by applying that skill or not bother and have it as it is now.

Quote from Cue-Ball :I have one question in regards to the car balancing:

Scawen has stated that the FXO will likely get a bit heavier and have narrower tires in the next big patch. However; since everyone is doing their balancing testing using the current (larger) tires, will all of this balancing be for naught once the tires are changed? If we eventually determine that the TBO class is "balanced" pretty well by adding X number of pounds to the FXO, what will happen when the next patch comes out and the FXO suddenly has tires that are 10% narrower? Won't we have to start this balancing act all over again?

Scawen said that his intention is to have classes balanced when a physics patch is released... however that's not always the case because of setups developing and so on, hence the master restrictions - they're just there in case the classes aren't balanced when the patch is first released. Any major physics change may essentially cause balancing to get messed up.

I remember that many people were requesting forced cockpit view as a serverside option time and time again prior to the patch... any chance of this being included?

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :It might be that your rolling forward a tiny amount without knowing, to be safe I apply the handbrake until the lights come on

The handbrake is applied automatically until you shift into 1st anyway.

I don't recall exactly but I think there was some rule in Formula 1 with regards to the car having to move only 0.1s after the green lights because anything less than that would mean that you were expecting green rather than reacting to it... is this how it has been implemented in LFS or is it if you move after green?

Looking fantastic! I love it!

I was just on an international server with a full grid and 40+ connected (ping 340ms from here, and I'm on a 384kbps line) and I must say, a big thumbs up! Whatever's been done has gone a long way into reducing jitter! I've just got two more suggestions to reduce it further (maybe, assuming they're feasible and they've not already been done, ) - perhaps, rather than just sending a value for the position of the steering wheel, include a rate of rotation in the packet, this might help smooth out jitter due to violent wheel movements. Also, would it be feasible to store an approximated brake point for each corner (maybe for each driver in the field too, if necessary) and attempt to reduce the jump caused by a driver stepping on the brakes in a laggy situation? If it would help deal with such issues, I could maybe save a few replays from servers at these pings?

Just thought I'd post two setups that drive well with the preload settings. I really think that the FZR set has amazing grip (though admittedly, I've just set up the diff on it - the LX4 set is my own work). Have fun.

Loving the handling with the preload (driving LX4)! It requires you to be much smoother but it's very rewarding.

Much thanks for the clutch pack preload, can't wait for my LFS folder to copy so I can try it out. False starts is a fantastic addition! I'm wondering if you saw some people's suggestion to have the option to turn the brake into a clutch and vice versa with the use of a button, I'm not sure if it's possible with the script system but it would be a nice addition to help people who don't have a clutch pedal...

I see my LFS folder's copied over --> testing.

I've rarely seen cars go out on full slick tyres on open track days, I've seen a lot of semi-slicks for cars with similar performance to the LRF class though so maybe that'd be better (road tyres remaining an option). I think that it'd be best to leave the TBO class and below with road tyres.

I'll try pop in when I find a bit of free time. Sounds like an awesome server you've got going there. And a big thumbs up for getting rid of that annoyance - the FXO.

I'm a bit disappointed with the list of improvements - I expected more.
No content, no massive physics changes, just a multiplayer patch basically... and it's taken nearly half a year.

Quote from duke_toaster :1-1 Axus - the only difference is that both contain aspartame, but max contains acesulfame potassium as well. Otherwise, they are identical.

And I assume you have exact measurements for the quantities of each of the other ingredients to back that up? Ingredients are not the only relevant things you know, quantity matters too.

Quote from duke_toaster :Of course it is - like Pepsi Max and Diet Pepsi. Identical drinks, packaged as different products, thinking that men don't buy diet drinks. But Coke Zero and diet coke are different - Coke Zero is supposedly made from a similar process to Coca Cola, but the diet one is made from a totally separate process.

OK - soft drinks is a very odd tangent to go off on

And you're just parroting opinions your daddy tells you or you heard in some advert... which makes you a tool. Here comes "LOL, but Anton, if you buy into adverts, you're just as much of a tool" - no, unless you've seen the proof, if you parrot off, you're a tool. Learn to think for yourself. Also, you needn't speak unless you have something worth saying - rather, just listen and learn if you can't contribute anything. (Your last sentence confirms you had nothing to say in the first place.)

Quote from deggis :Scawen just needs to code some genious "shorcut" button, that automatically reconfigures pedals, brake -> clutch (do you need to brake in the start? I doubt it), and when releasing that button it swaps it back to brake. Sounds stupid? Anyway it's not a joke. Of course you would still need to use auto clutch while driving... but at least the starts would be even no matter do you have 2 or 3 pedals.

Btw, will biggie's nightmares come true (will lfsworld.net going to get a reset)? Like Scawen said, it's going to be mp-incompatible patch but no physics changes.

I'm all for that clutch suggestion! Would be awesome.
As for LFSW, I don't think it's getting reset.

Quote from thisnameistaken :How would that work for auto-clutchers? They're going to need a button clutch in all the turbo cars if that does come in.

It needs to come in sooner or later, Kev. I won't mind having a bit more excitement added to the start... and you can have a button clutch and have autoclutch on at the same time anyway.

Yeah, I think you should keep info you get from having the privileges of being a translator to yourself - you cannot be sure of some of these things so rather not publicise them.

Quote from geeman1 :Lowering the volume at the source (in LFS/your computers settings) and increasing at the output (your amplifier). Doing this causes problems with lower end audio equipment (cheap pc speakers), which might not have sufficent amplifying power.

With V2 and onwards LFS is meant to produce the same sounds irrespective of volume.

Sorry for the misinformation then, I was sure I'd seen this at some point - not having the button to kick/ban other admins in the connections list.
