LXCC forum improvements!

Hi,

We decided that the clutter in here with various threads from the two divisions is pointless so now we have two subforums - one for each division. Hopefully, this will make things a bit more tidy. I know there are still a lot of redirects from the moved threads in the general forum, making it look like a mess. These redirects will expire this time tomorrow. Threads that apply to both divisions will still go in the main LXCC section. James must do the splitting of the infringements thread - I don't want to edit it seeing as I'm racing in the event and it would look weird for such posts to be "edited" by me. (Yeah, that's just a good excuse not to do it.)

I also made a special sticky when a driver will be absent and you need another driver to race in his place. This thread is in the main LXCC section, here. Avoid posting there unless you actually need a driver or a driver responding to someone's request - its a bit of an attention grabbing title so best not grab the attention of people without reason .

Anyway, I hope you like the new improvements. I'll also edit some thread titles so they are more consistent.

I merged two threads requesting a reserve driver and made sticky from them. In future, you can just post here. Anyone outside the league can follow this topic and see who needs drivers.

EDIT: Sorry for the attention grabber if you're a driver looking for a race. All the ones above are old/sorted out. The attention grabbing title is there for a reason . Please do not post in this thread unless you are actually looking for a driver in future.

I see that but you must still follow the format. You can't use square brackets when the format says use round ones. You can't put a team tag in front, the team name goes on top. Kindly specify which is the LX4 driver and which is the LX6 driver.

O2 Racing
LX4 Driver: N.Puntola (LFSn00b)
LX6 Driver: J.V.Goderstad (SmurfeN)

(or the other way around, dunno who's driving what)

There is a specific format designed to make my life easy, so I don't have to check up on a bahzillion things in different places while doing results/passwords. I ask you to kindly follow it. Thank you.

Quote from Leifde :I'm sorry if it's not correct but I feel the Saturday division is being neglected. The Tuesday one has this thread already and we don't even have one for this Saturday. Please sort it out.

EDIT: Just as I posted this we get a sub-forum

Sorry, I was under the impression that I'd already made the thread. Thanks to Primoz for pointing that out over MSN. I usually make the Tuesday division threads immediately after the race now, but I'm always in a rush to go out after a Saturday race.

James, don't worry, didn't promise much - it was more like, hopefully this might happen.

Please follow the format. I get really frustrated when people post just real names and I have to "figure out" the license name, or when people don't post a team name or whatever.

For example:

vMaxSR
LX4 Driver: Anton Tcholakov (axus)
LX6 Driver: Rob Fowler (_Rob_)
LXCC Participating racers - 23/12/2006 (Event 5)

Welcome to the designated Saturday Division section - I'll move all the Saturday-specific threads here later.
To the point:

Event 5

Date: 23.12.2006
Track: Westhill
Configuration: International Reversed
Weather: Clear Day, High Wind
Laps: 22 laps

You know the drill:

Team Name
LX4 Driver - Real name (LFS license name)
LX6 Driver - Real name (LFS license name)

Quote from jamvib :I'm not really understood what you mean there. Anyway Noise cancellation is an effect of "Destructive interference" between sound waves, and happens to occur at a phase difference of 180º (maximum cancellation). The source of this difference can be several things (distance between sound sources, wave travelling with different speeds, i.e. different matter, etc) all related to the wave path.

The U -> U35 archive should work to go back from U36 to U35, correct?

I'd also like to add that I'm getting some weird resonance-like sound, cycling every thousand rpm or so (the cycle seems to be longer in a higher gear) with U36. Its not loud at all and hardly audiable but still there if you listen. This is pretty much in every car.

I think I can hear Scawen's roar of frustration with these patches and feedback from here... its so inconsistent.

Quote from Meanie :What i would like to know is if Patch V will be a compatible patch with U30.

Yes, it will be compatible. As far as I know.

I think not all the work from U35 -> U36 is a complete step backwards btw. The clipping issue being resolved is obviously good and the new FZR sound file (assuming something's changed on the sound file) is probably better.

All cars bar the FZR sound worse over here. I felt completely unimmersed. With U35 I could close my eyes and think "yeah, that sounds like a car on a track, pretty much." Now, when I do the same, I've no idea what's going on. I can't even put my finger on what's not right. If these are patch V sounds, I'll just go back to U35 I guess...

EDIT: I can't understand how and why people got headaches with U35, I think its down to sound equipment more than LFS and their equipment being unable to play the frequencies needed by LFS. So now I think there's a gap between 100 and 200Hz, making the sound unbearable on more high end equipment.

I'll agree that the GTRs are a sore spot with the sound updates. Virtually every other car has gotten better.

Tim started setting off my bullshit detector after he was pointed to several solutions and he just kept repeating the same thing - "I don't think its gonna happen. That solution doesn't work for me" - even though the solutions were entirely automated etc and did everything he asked for. The part he left out is "because it needs a day or two's work." Let's face it: LFS provides way more data than any other sim, and provides it in real time too, if someone can be bothered to pull it out.

Honestly, in the time he spent arguing here, he could have had the basics for a solution drawn up (down to which system he'll use where) and he could be paying $80 (or whatever) to some programmer to pull it off if he really didn't have the time/knowledge to do it himself. After all, he's gonna make money off it anyway.

I was willing to be reasonable - look at my first post in this thread. Basically, what I saw from there was "Well, I'm helping out your community anyway [and seeing as you're all a bunch of black sheep, playing LFS you need as much of that as possible], so can't someone do all the organising and work for me and then I'll charge others money for it?"

So after 5 days of testing and many thumbs up since U33, and people saying that the sound is much better than U, now that V's about to come out today (at latest tomorrow maybe), 20 people go "woah, wait, wait, I think this is worse than U"?!

Quote from Shotglass :if it is calculated on the fly i doubt its done directly with the models used for the graphics; afaik those dont have an engine block to begin with
id assume that the model used for on the fly calcs is a lot more boxy (you really dont want to calculate a cog using every single vertice you see on screen) with a lot more parts of the car modeled

LFS tweak had sliders for engine position and mass a while ago (S1 days). I'd assume that's how the engine is added.

Quote from Shotglass :i dont think its done on the fly so theres no reason why the model and the physics cant have a different cog
besides the model used for cog calculation is probably a lot more detailed anyway

It IS possible that the polar moment of inertia is calculated on the fly. That's not just a value like the CoG - it changes (by substansial margins) in different directions. Actually, I think an inertia matrix is calculated when loading the car and possibly even changing anything on the setup, especially driver side switches.

Tristan, dunno if you sounded too harsh for the sake of humour but lately, you've been calling everyone imaptient I guess after some of the recent threads on this forum, it gets difficult to distinguish between impatient trolls and people who're just curious as to what's going on etc.

As for the interiors, I honestly doubt it but there's a way to pull it off, retaining compatability, surely. You could use the current 3D models for the CoG and the new ones for the graphics engine, all of which is too much bother and it would be a better idea to just leave it for later.

BTW, with any luck this will become automated over the holidays - James is thinking of an improved site (just ideas so far but, but I think he's got a bit more time now, he can hopefully start making them in the not-too-distant future), hopefully results will become automatic too. We've not gone all out in season 1 (upto this point) due to time constraints etc. Look at season 1 as a test season - now that we know there's solid interest season 2 will become much more organised and automated and I won't have to do 1.5hours of work a week on results alone (two divisions, everything is manual). We're also gonna randomize qualy order via the site I think.

I think everyone will agree that LXCC has some great rules and the basics are right. We need to work with our great foundation to make it the series it can be. STCC it up a little, you might say.
