Quote from Mike85 :I found a bug I think. I use mouse and have autoclutch enabled. When I set it to OFF, the game starts lagging.

That's a bit ambiguous - lagging, in technical terms, usually means network lag (ie. a delay in the transfer of data due to a network). I think you're probably referring to stuttering - ie. a decrease in FPS. Does this actually happen consistently and does the problem go away when you enable auto-clutch again? The two things seem rather unrelated.

Quote from JJ72 :I am concerning about the brake+initial turn in phrase, when the effect of roll is yet too dominant.

In my understanding, with more rear rebound, the car will have less vicious pitching effect under braking, less weight will be lifted from the rear, and less weight will be put on the front as well, so relatively the load distribution should be more even and the car should be less prone to oversteer when you turn in.

I think you might have explained what could happen in a turn-in situation without braking, when roll is the only factor, I think it is possible for a high rebound damping rate to hamper suspension movement to produce higher roll resistance, hence the oversteer. I'll have to ask my friend with actual car setup experience.

Say a car is braking at maximum strength for a good 50m. It will already have reached its maximum pitch for that rate of deceleration by that time despite any front compression and rear rebound damping - the damping merely slows this process down. Anyway, as turn in approaches a driver would lift the brakes slightly, thus decreasing the rate of deceleration. For this lower rate of deceleration, the car will tend to a lesser pitch, thus weight will begin to slowly shift towards the rear of the car again. The rate of this is limited by the front rebound and rear compression dampers. Where you're getting confused is in thinking that dampers limit weight transfer - this is incorrect, they limit the rate of weight transfer. (At least that's the way I understand the whole thing... but I'm fairly sure that's right)

Quote from stevewhite :Im guessing friday of next week, unless something comes up.

That's ambitious. For AI drivers to be able to know how to get through the pitlane, Scawen already mentioned that track updates are needed which will only come in a physics incompatible patch. So 4-5 months from now might be a bit closer to the truth.

(Disclaimer: Closer to the truth doesn't imply perfectly accurate. AI improvements might even come after Patch Y

I'm fully booked with exams till around the middle of June. On the 17th of June I'm flying to Bulgaria on holiday for 6 weeks and I get back and I need to study for my final high-school exams because they're around the corner. In short, I can't run LXCC before December this year and I'm reluctant to start in the middle of Christmas holidays so hopefully something early next year. If anyone can admin the league though, I'd be more than happy to step aside and help as much as possible to give the LX fans a good league again.

Saw this a while back, it's pretty awesome. I use a pair of Sennheiser HD-595 headphones for music. Crossfade plugins make a significant difference in the sound-stage - they try do a similar thing to normal stereo recordings.

Quote from JJ72 :actually I have been wondering quite a while.. say shouldn't increased rear rebound damping decrease corner-in oversteer instead of the other way around?

On corner entry it's mostly roll that changes, so the dampers act like roll-bars, thus increasing rear rebound will cause more oversteer.

Quote from Bob Smith :On the contrary, I do see the funny side. I still consider the topic more suitable for an IM conversation, rather than a forum.

I know I'm not the only one who's annoyed with the gradual detoriation of these forums, this thread would fall under the very broad and ill-defined category of threads that aren't helping the matter. Overall it's an awkward situation, threads on their own don't really warrant closing, yet between them all they make the place seem like a random chatting ground. Off-topic is a space for LFS forum goers to talk about things not related to LFS, it isn't to be used to chat randomly with friends about everything and anything, nor should it be your main reason for browsing the forums (that's in general, not aimed specifically at you).

Damn I must seem moody but this issue keeps getting worse and gets on my nerves sometimes (well, often).

I agree, word for word. I miss the days where there was so much information on these forums that I'd learn more here than at school. When it first started out, there were many an ISI fanboy here and many flamewars to go with. Then last year's April patch came out and everything quieted down, there was no spam and the forum was full of information. I miss that. I wish I'd been grown up enough at the time to absorb it all.

"Data is the raw material on which a computer operates. When some appropriate structure has been applied to the data then it becomes information.
... *insert some silly example*"
is more than sufficient.

Then further down, if your way of explaining is so shit that you have to explain your explanation, you really should be shot in the face.

" Information = Data + Structure
You should note that this is not a mathematical formula to be applied in the normal sense but simply a way of describing a fundamental concept in computer science"

It just says the same thing as the first paragraph. That makes the book painful to read because it's constantly making you read twice as much as you need to.

"Structure has been applied and the data has become information, as shown in the following important relationship" is also obvious because if an example is being given, it's bound to be based on what was just stated.

It's more of a rant about the dreadful, repetitive, patronising style of writing than anything else. I mean, that should be explained in two sentences, really.
The worst textbook in history?

I doubt anyone can top this:

This is pretty much directly quoted from "Understanding computer science for advanced level" by Ray Bradley. Fourth Edition. I have to read this shit.

Quote from theirishnoob :the motor is the motor out of the bmw m1 ( which you guys know from its old gt days ) they just adjusted the motor , which peaks out that 501 hp with 52.3 fpt

its got a few slight changes done to it but its the same motor :

see dont mess with a bmw tech geek

The motor in the M6? I should hope not seeing as the M1 motor is a 3.5l I6 and the M6 has a 5.0l V10.

Quote from dadge :i find that i can still time the lights from first red to green. usually results in an alonso (renault) style launch

I think the only way to force people to *react* to start lights rather than *expect* them is to give anyone with a reaction of less than 0.1s after green a penalty. It's how it's done in real life after all (apart from on the drag strip as Cue-ball explained).

EDIT: I can see the reluctance to add this might be because people would think "I started after green, howcome I got a penalty?"... perhaps the message should then be "Expecting green lights" rather than "False start" combined with a small text in the corner of the screen explaining "Moving less than 0.1s after green means that you expected green rather than reacting to it."

ROFL. That helps. Anyway, my vote goes to Hyperactive's short and simple "Sry, lag", which doesn't mean I nominate Hyper as the winner because I feel I shouldn't.

I've heard of touring cars having this adjustment. It's mostly for when you get rain mid-race and that type of thing, so I definitely think GTR cars and Formula cars should keep it, though as Tristan said, not in its full range. All the S1 cars and the UF1 shouldn't have it. Maybe have an option to disable it from the server as I think server-side options should basically define the "rule-book" for the particular racing.

Quote from zero :I have this unfinished model on my hdd for about month, and I'm too lazy to finish it. So here is WIP version without lights, brakes, proper materials......
Call it Road legal XRR, or Riced XR, whatever

Very very nice! I think if you revise the back end, ie. ditch the outlets on the sides of the lights and give it a normal rear end and revise the mirrors you could have a fantastic looking modern coupe.
