Quote from lalathegreat :if development is slow to the point where no new people are buying, or people are leaving the game(which ultimately hurts the overal game). They won't be able to live off that lowered income.
They are not sharing their selling. without all of you who bought the game, it would not be possible

That's just the point. There ARE new people buying the game, the devs are living happily, developing LFS to be what they envision it to be and enjoying the process. And that's enough for them and (most of) us. If you don't like it, go play something else.

The goal is more along the lines of enjoying the development process and sharing it with people I think. The journey is no less enjoyable than the finished game will be. Plus, as I see it, a challenger is yet to come along and dethrone LFS anyway.

Err, Scawen has been working on AI since July or so. I'm pretty sure he's done with them and working on physics or something else now. So you lot might as well stop bickering.

Well, I'm hoping that LFS at least has the tyre physics nailed down properly after the next patch (though they're better than anything else around, sim physics should be stacked up against real life). After that, my biggest itch with LFS is the amount of stuff on the HUD. I'm really craving for a hardcore mode. Proper forced in-car view (ie. so you can use a custom camera that's within the cockpit), no speedos in racing cars, no F9/F10, F11 done by adjustments on the dash, only F12 done as it is now. No shift+L either while I'm at it. No car reset (standard in hardcore mode). No minimap or HUD "YELLOW FLAG" texts but track marshals and functional pit exit lights. No positions list, a pitboard instead. And you have to drive to the pits to actually pit. If you spectate, you can't rejoin for 1 minute so it's as if a tow car went out or something like that. This, combined with some improved physics would be amazing. (Obviously not in the next patch)

RacerY, right now, LFS speads by word of mouth so it's not really necessary. And anyone can scroll down and note how frequent news updates have been and decide whether there's cause for worry. There's no need for LFS.net to be updated unless there is... news.

Quote from frankwer :amazing logic

Yes, Tristan's logic is spot on. rFactor will die. Give it two years tops. LFS constantly has more racers online than rFactor and rFactor is "finsihed" where LFS as is only half way through its development.

Good stuff. Definitely improving and looking a lot less cheesy than Episodes 1 and 2! Of course, there's always room for improvement but no-one can expect a full on Top Gear style show from two people doing this for fun.

Quote from Hyperactive :If LFS had got more updates recently you would say that it is a good thing that LFS has a constant flow of updates. Now you say that the long preiod is good because it "promises more". I'm sorry, but that is just fanboyism, finding any reasons to make LFS look better.

I have high hopes resting on the next patch. LFS is really close to moving sims forward from 1999. If the physics updates are a rush-job, I'll be very disappointed.

Quote :The last physics update took a year and didn't really have much stuff in it, except the tire physics update that made the road cars fun to drive. In the world of LFS time does not equal quantity. I hate to be the negative guy again but better ai means less people online and more offline racing with the same content.

The last physics update took 4 months (January -> April). It made a HUGE difference in tyre physics. There's another such leap to be made on the longitudinal forces side and then LFS will have some top notch tyre physics. That's all I'd like to see. It's about time someone got the tyres right.

As for the AI, I don't think anyone who has the option of either going online or racing against AI will choose the AI. AI will be handy if you'd like to race at such a time of the day that there'd be no-one online or you don't have a great connection or you'd like to do some offline league practice. It's what I'd use it for and I don't think many people will stop racing online because of good AI. On the other hand, if the next patch is good on the physics side, I suspect we'll often get closer to 2000 people online.

Quote :Well, first of all, setting a release date to christmas is the worst kind of release date if you want to spend christmas with your family. It will also decrease the quality of the patch (the sound "update", anyone?) for obvious reasons - you want it finished and released on time. And unlike you I'd have lots of time to spend racing LFS...

A Chrismas patch made well in advance and polished for Christmas will be just fine. I don't think Scawen will make that mistake again.

Cool stuff. I've always felt FE was way behind the current batch of tracks on quality. The palms, trees and things like that look awful at the moment also, I hope you can have a poke at them before releasing the update. Though if you can't, this still looks great.

It's good that there haven't been updates for a while as far as I'm concerned. Firstly, this is the first major physics incompatible patch since the beginning of last year. Physics takes time and it should be done properly. And not only that, the AI are getting updated in this patch so it really is a biggie. The longer this patch takes, the more updates it will have where it matters. I for one am hoping for a Christmas release, which would be really awesome. Furthermore, in recent weeks, I've often seen the online users hit more than 1400, so LFS is far from dead. And personally, I'm meant to be studying for my final secondary education exams right now so it's better that LFS isn't here to distract me. Relax, if you're bored of LFS, take a break. The next patch promises to be quite awesome, I think.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :So long as the cars remain the same in terms of handling and power it should be fine. The cars don't look that stupid when they are overtaking each other and banging wheels.

I'd approve of more powah.

I was actually quoting the article (editor), not Alonso so I see no problem. Anyone could have seen that that's not an Alonso quote because it doesn't make sense as one. And isn't your source the same website that quoted Hamilton as having sworn at Ron Dennis during the Hungarian GP Qualifying? Something which Ron Dennis flat out denied a couple of days later? Fact is, we cannot know for sure what was said in the interview but given Alonso's attitude throughout the season so far, I'm far more inclined to believe the gpupdate story.

EDIT: More to the point, it's just an oppinion, albeit a strong one. If it offends you might I suggest that you should not be using forums?

Quote from jamvib :The sentence
"Alonso went on to say he has not been treated like a double world champion, but just like a normal person. "
It’s something the editor wrote, Alonso didn't say that (at least this time), he was asked if he deserved being treated as a double WC, and he said "No, I just want to be treated with respect as a normal person". The right quote would be:
.

As it stands, I have provided a source and you have not.

And, I used retard as a noun.

Quote from diablo21 :Clever move by Hamilton.

lmao.

I rarely come across someone so biased towards anything. Wow. You can't not see how annoying Alonso is, even if he's Spanish! It's ironic that there are two Spanish people in this thread trying to make Alonso sound like a little angel that's having it so rough while everyone else, no matter what nationality is disgusted by his constant complaining. Take this quote for instance:

"Alonso went on to say he has not been treated like a double world champion, but just like a normal person. " (sauce)

That's just silly: normal people don't get $10m/year. Alonso can't expect better treatment than Hamilton on the basis that he's won championships - and I'm sure that was made clear to him before joining McLaren. If he does, he's just a retard, and that's what it looks like. And, perhaps, McLaren have grown biased towards Hamilton over the course of the season but they were equally supportive of both at the start of the season so it's just Alonso's fault, that he stopped talking to Ron Dennis, that he gave him an ultimatum in Hungary, that he took part in the Ferrari espionage, that he didn't exactly do his best to keep McLaren out of bad publicity over the fact that he's a double world championship and not getting better treatment than a rookie (which is silly!), the fact that he negated a lot of the engineers' effort, etc. I'm sure, even if he did help McLaren by .6 of a second, he would not have done that on his own. Remember Michael? He would be humble (off the track anyway) and thank every person in the team for the team's success because a great team is held together by passion and appreciation towards others' work, not by some tard that thinks he's the best thing that ever happened to F1.

I'm not sure how to help you with your question but I advise you to run far and fast from VB6, or anything with VB in its name for that matter. The sooner you make the switch, the better. If you've already got some coding experience, learning a .NET language or Java is merely a matter of understanding OOP ideas and learning a new syntax. Sure, the former may take some time but in a few days you'd have a good enough grasp of the idea (I recommend Bruce Eckel's Thinking in C++/Thinking in Java as they make you understand the concept well in no time - they're free and downloadable books) to match your old coding pace and the latter is just a matter of getting used to it, not really learning anything.

You have to wonder what Ralf had been drinking at the time. It'd probably be good if he leaves Formula 1 really.

Well, I don't know what kinds of social circles you hang out in - fact of the matter is one ought to just be what he wants to be and not let anyone get in the way of that. There's a difference between pretending that you're winning and really winning. Success isn't measured by how many people think you're successful, it's measured by whether you think you are. Don't be afraid to be the odd one out. If you do that in England, focus on your education, the subjects you enjoy, go for a career in such a field and you're bound for success. In many places, you're still going to just end up with a mediocre life.

You bring up religion. Now, I'm not religious (which is a step beyond atheist - I don't actually care to worship anything because I think that if there was a god, true belief would not consist of worship and furthermore I don't care to believe in the non-existance of a god because it doesn't matter to me) but no-one knows if there is a god, really. A discussion that can be dealt with scientifically is a completely different matter.

BlueFlame, I have you on my ignore list but wherever your posts are, there's this view post button that shows me what you said and it's always really tempting to click it. Whenever I read one of your posts, I get depressed - I can't even laugh anymore. They are all full of this sweeping arrogance - "I know it all and there's not a damn thing anyone can teach me". Not only that but you get angry when people don't agree with you on matters you clearly know very little about. I can't think of a single person who actually agrees with you when you start arguing here - it's always pretty much just you against the forum. I doubt you have many friends with that attitude.

I also see you complain a lot. You think you've been dealt a rough one. Everyone has problems - you live in a first world country and while its leadership does not make the best choices all the time, you get one great thing there and that's opportunity. Do you know how many amazingly clever people I've met, who've ended up only a shadow of what they could have become because they don't have the opportunity to shine? Yet you choose to complain about where you live on an internet forum to people who don't know you.

As for the past - yes, the impression stays. When people see you've changed, they change their attitude towards you, and a few months down the line, the past is forgotten - never immediately. Take Jakg as an example, he used to spam and I doubt that even he would deny that now. But he's grown up and people don't call him a spammer anymore, go figure. Your posts are still full of the same, off-the-scale arrogance and ignorance. I hope some of that went in, really but my expectations aren't high.

Pictures of famous physicists? As long as not everyone picks Einstein.

Then we could really say "LFS: the sim whose community truly cares about physics".

Quote from elipse :Seriously, I think some people are rather naive to think that Hamilton did not know about all this "useful" Ferrari information running around, does he not have eyes and ears. If they were inputing all this data into the McLaren simulator I really can't see how they could have not noticed.

To be totally honest I would have also been severely pissed off if I had been screwed like Alonso during the polemic qualifying.

In my opinion this puts the whole affair into relative perspective.

I read the hearing transcript for the 13th and the WSMC's findings from the following day. I think McLaren got it a little rough. They literally had every single one of their points almost dismissed.

Clearly then, because Einstein was taught maths in Germany and Newton was taught maths in England he had no right to improve the laws of motion.

Frankly I can't believe this stupid debate is still going on. *gets popcorn*
