Quote from Becky Rose :I can see it now, the rescue car leaves the pits and makes a beeline for the first corner where somebody is stuck in the gravel. The pack form up behind the rescue car, it pulls off to the sand trap ... and the field follows, "Dammit I thought they said it was a safety car".

Nopes !

The idea was only to rescue a burried car. Not to have a safety car - More a rescue car.

Ofcourse the rescue car had to be very very carefull, going to the place where the car was "stranded". I think this was a great idea, thinking about many of the cars having trouble getting out of the sand in many places.

EDIT :

And for the safetycar i mentioned. I recall the server admin announced the safetycar, comming on track for a test. There was some announcement and the it was there. We were only two drivers on the track, and my teammate instantly started go fo forth and back in his fox. Damned it looked great, and funny at the same time. I had troubles trying to adjust to the speed, because I laughed, because he was "heating his tyres" and the IRL feel of it. It was very realistic I can tell you, hence I have never even been close to a racetrack.

I can only tell you people to try it out some times. You will discover how hard it is to follow such a thing - Especially if you are heating tyres at the same time - But it was great fun, and a memorable experience.

Quote from Victor :getting 12Gb, doing tens of thousands of queries in a short timeframe is what I consider hostile behaviour. Simple as that.
For this reason exactly, pubstats were brought to life - we can't have everyone sucking our website because they want some stat on their website. If you can't live with the 5 second tarpitting, then you have the option to go for the premium pubstat.

Why Phlos thinks he doesn't have to go by the rules is beyond me. And getting direct access to our database - man, you MUST be joking... If you can't see why I would never ever allow you to do that, then I give up.

Hmmm

I didn`t see that message untill now. I wasn`t aware of that.
I have to rest my case, with this piece of evidence.

I`ll go shoot myself

Everybody is talking about their best overtakes. Never ever one of you been overtaked by a gifted driver, so you parked the car just after, too watch the replay !??

I have been overtaked many many times, in great manners. But the catch is, I have been overtaked insanely many more times by people who hit my car ! For each great overtake, there are 100.000 disasters out there. A great percentage hit me, or I feel like they do.

Okay, I have made som great advances myself - I often save them in a replay, and I have quite a few now. I never watch them, and when I need them, I have forgotten all about, what is what in my 1256 replays saved !?

But I remember the best of them - They are in my brain, and they grow and grow, and gets better as time goes by. I like this method the best !

I like this information. I have often thougth about the amount of people who has got a license.

I shall not judge if it`s good or bad, but now I have got a reasonable answer to my question. Great many thank you`s for that !

I have tried that. My old "clan" DPRT tried that out a couple of times. We never get to try it out in races or so.

I know that the organizer of "Traffic LeMans" Frags, discussed the idea of having a Rb4 or simular car, as a rescue car. If people got stuck in the sand, that car could go and push them out of the sand.
A good idea when racing 6 - 12 or 24 hours, and you get stuck !!

If we are some danish guys racing together, on a server, and we decide to find more action another place, then we often meet there. Then some of us is going server searching and finding a new raceserver to join. From that place you can see what server he joined, and then join yourself.

For that it is superb.
Else, I do not use that meeting room.

You do know this page : http://www.lfsworld.net/

Log in with your username and password.

The nutters ranking is all the combinations of cars/tracks available in lfs. As long as they are legal, they`ll count here. You`ll see some guys have red times and some guys have green ones. To get a green time, you`ll have to drive a hotlap faster than the WR on that track/car combo + 3%

If you cannot do that and you upload your hotlap, your time will turn red.
You can have red and green times together, but they`ll add them together, and the resulting time will then be green, if you have fast laps enough or red if not.

Then there is the MHR ranks. This is the ranking for the pro guys !
(That`s why I`m not there )
That is 18 cars and 18 tracks, someone has chosen, to find the best allrounder in the Lfs community. This ranking is much, much harder than the nutter ranking.

Then you can drive - Lets say uf1000 on 18 tracks, the normal way around the track. There is a little ranking for every car in the Lfs, but the two new tracks aren`t present yet. These are popular rankings.

Hmmm.
I usually get hold of a good basic set, and are now able to tweak it. Often I combine two sets - I take the gearing from one set and combine it with another. If you are lucky and get hold of a great allround set, it is only the gearing which needs tweaking. But good basic all round sets are very seldom out there.

But tweaking tyre pressure, ride heigth and gearing is really easy. One just use the "learning by doing" method.

I personally have a bit harder time, with the RWD. I can easily make a safe set - But make a set that can compete with the fast guys out there - No way yet

But everybody should learn how to do small changes to your ride.

I must say, I`m waiting for Bob`s easy driven sets. That`s a good set of basic setups, which is easily made personally driveable. In S1 I could drive some of his sets, very fast indeed, with small alterations. Good work Bob !

Quote from coskun_bulent :I know that mant things have been spoken about this issue but ant time I drive or watch how was the race, I always wish to see for example a Mercedes SLR, Lamborghini Mucielago, Ferrrari F430, Aston Martin DB9, Corvette C5 or C6 something like this.

Why ?

The cars, present in Lfs, covers a wide array of racing cars. The whole idea about Lfs, is the online racing part and the human counterparts out there. It is not about the cars, like the wannabe simulators, people are used too !?

For me, the cars and tracks in Lfs, are just as real, as the cars and tracks IRL. The big difference is : I have driven all the cars in lfs, on every track there (Nearly !) The IRL tracks and cars, I have only seen on mý television.

Following my thinking, the Lfs cars and tracks "are more real" than IRL cars/tracks, to me !?

Let the devs finish their task, and then ask for thingies like that. Maby the possibillity will be present in the S3 final version !? - Who knows where this sim ends up !

Quote from Gimpster :The other day I was thinking about LFS and how the car types and tracks are starting to appeal to me less and less as time goes on. I long for a few new cars in new classes or added to existing classes and some new tracks. So I was thinking I would be willing to pay a small fee for regular content updates. A new car or two or a new track environment every few months would be worth it to me for an added fee per update. I see it has having a few benefits with perhaps a few drawbacks.

Positive:
1) Regularly added new content.
2) Additional source of income for the devs.

Negative:
1) The devs need to code a new way to add content that is secure and allows for people with different levels of purchased content to race together. Ideally, all users would have the content but be restricted to using only what they have paid for.
2) More help may be needed to release regular content updates, which is an idea the devs have been reluctant to embrace for reasons of their own, which I can respect.

I know this idea may be very unlikely to ever happen, but I just wanted to toss it out there to get the communities thoughts and feedback and maybe if the devs happen to see theirs as well.

No thanks !

Better 1 car which simulates 100%, than 542 cars, behaving as in the wannabe sims.

I think it is a one time possibility, to develope as a simrace, while the "game" is being developed. When finished (s3 final version) then one can start making special wishes.

Quote from kompa :Well I do, and it really intensifies the experience(immersion) and makes me faster because I concentrate harder.

It's just too much fun...

One or two beers can be helpfull. No doubt about that. But if you keep drinking and driving, it has to give a negative effect on your driving.

Reflecses are proven, to get much slower, when drunk.

Scientific tests, with drunk people, clearly shows that even the good drivers kill more pedestrians and dogs, than a sober bad driver would do.
They used a simulator in that programme I saw on tv.

I have tried drinking beers, when racing Lfs. No good !

So No alchohol, early to bed (Keep your hands on top of the cartpet) - Very cold baths and a christian way of life (Okay - Whatever religion you want -OK !) that makes the perfect driver in Lfs.

Did I mention - I`m no good Lfs racer

Quote from JeffR :True, but with .WMV files you can watch them while streaming them instead of having to download the entire file. Plus the source has a lot to do with quality:

Souped up porche at road america (from Sony HC1 hi-def cam, but 1920x1080 too big for most computers):

DVD quality video:

Quote from Tweaker :If I felt like it, I could get some world records or very fast times. But so much time is invested for something that will be eventually deleted when S2 is final. By the time S2 is final I will be hotlapping. It isn't pointless to hotlap right now persay, because it helps the developers know where weaknesses are in certain cars or classes. But there are plenty of other hotlapping nutters out there that do that already.

I also would prefer being involved with LFSWorld if it had its old interface -- or a new one. I haven't seen much of LFSW since the desktop one

Hehe

A reset means - A new beginnig !
And an improved Lfs simulator. I would want new beginnigs more often then !!

Quote from rAcEr2418 :well, I dont bother because, hotlapping is to me impossible. It just isnt as intense and really doesnt get me into my "zone" so I can do a good lap. Most of my pb's come during practice and qualy for races because the pressure is on...etc. With a hotlap...what? I just run around then post it online for everyone to just see...but what does it really gain me? I have done a few hotlaps and did not upload them, but otherwise...i just race. They are not really anything to go by. Most hotlap setups cant be used in a race, and a good hotlapper doesnt mean anything during a race. So really, hotlapping doesnt say much about a driver...unless you biggie, biohazard, or csimpok. lol...they are just uber quick and we know it no matter what. Plus biohazard and csimpok I actually know can "race" (never had the pleasure of seeing/racing with biggie), but a lot of the time I see drivers enter league races that are good hotlappers and get pole position, but fall apart during the race because they are trully two different things...unless the rest of the field blows, in which case you long distance hotlap, lap after lap after lap because no one else can give you a real race.

I can tell you, that 99% of the hotlap WR holders are very very good racers. I don`t know why people think a hotlapper can`t race ?

Usually a good racer, races against the pack, and notice he`s close to the WR. Them he dissapears for 30 minutes and the WR, is now his. Have seen this many times.

I combine the 2 things and I have raced over 66.000 miles (107.000 Km) online. I will think I have done about half doing hotlaps. Man against time - No draft, no wind - NOTHING but you and your skills.

It`s not for kiddoes, when a MAN sits on his shiny metal horse, and take on the battling against migthy Mr. Time - Alone

I do a lot of hotlaps, but only if I can reach a 103% of the WR time.
If I have trained for a combo, and done the race, I usually go hotlapping just after the race.

I think it make a better racer, to try to improve ones hotlaps.

Quote from JeffR :Ok, I made another LFS video, the 52.10 hotlap of a BF1 at BL. Set ansiotropic filter to 16x. No anti-aliasing, since fraps does the equivalent when doing half size video. Screen at 1280x960x32-60hz, fraps at half size, 30fps. I checked the frame rate of LFS when doing a capture and it drops down to 30 fps, which lucky for me, just matches the fraps capture rate. With fraps off, it's just over 90 fps with AF set to 16x. Converted to a WMV file using Premiere. Ended up pretty clean. When I get the time, I'll make a dual view video, adding chase view to the bottom of this one.

lfsblf1.wmv

Nice flickerfree movie. But you can do better in the same size of file, with divx, xvid, mpeg4.

The visual quality is just a bit over average. Best possible would be same quality as in the game. I had some exsamples on divx movies from fraps, but they are sitting on my 200Gb sata HD which went on strike a month ago. :-(

Quote from Ryanry64 :Some peoples PC's (Mine included) have issues with Fraps and LFS. No matter what settings/res I use I get no more than 10FPS, when I can easily get 30fps solid in other games while recording.

The solution to this is to change to a 16bit video mode... Then viola!

I tried this 16 bit mode - No improvement !?
Fraps stinks, as a piece of software. Maby because there is no competing programme on the market.

I have tried using the tv out from one machine, to another. The picture quality is not to good, but framerate is just the same, as in the game.

The only way one can get this fraps working reasonably, is turning playback speed down to 1/2 or 1/4, but this make mega big output files !?

I don`t know how big computers we need, to get divx files out of the process - But I know it is a very craving process for the computer. Is there anybody out there, who has another solution, when we speak of recording Lfs replays ?

Quote from whitey6272 :I see, when i use fraps the video file after a race is ridiculously big, much bigger than the LFS oilder itself!!! i use virtual dub to compress it to divx but the quality becomes alot poorer, any ideas how i can keep the quality to a good standard and the file size down ?

You will have to learn virtual dub, and the divx plugin. You can make nearly lossless movies (in a relatively small output file), but it will take hours to convert your fraps movie, then. Its learning by doing, but start out reading about it.
