From what I've heard, LFS started off as a suspension simulator which is why it's got such a broad range of opportunities within 'driving' simulation of various sorts. I remember the devs in the 0.6 patching could simply 'enable' collision on certain collisionless parts of venues. In that case, there are some interesting unused roads on south city that could be utulized to make a cruise (yes cruise) layout without much effort.
I think 'customizable' rims has more to do with racing than cruising. You see more racing cars out there with different flashy rims than in traffic. Police cars or pace cars are just dds mods away from each other. Not sure how much a pace car would add to LFS as a racing simulator though. Definitely not a step backwards. Same goes for tow trucks. Those are present in real racing as well and I guess the comfort of simply teleporting off the track can be considered unrealistic also in racing simulation. So all of those things you mentioned, I think would contribute to a better experience, even in a racing simulation. My opinion.
Excuse my stupidity, but what's the exact path for this .dds? I have no vehicle, nor truck folder in my install of game downloaded from official ETS 2 site. I've searched it also in documents folder, but again no .dds at all.
Decided to log in, and found a long list of PM's asking, demanding, and pleading for my tyres. Haha, I never thought they'd be so popular!
Here is my LOGOALPHA.dds and my TYRE.dds files. These include some other authors great work as well (from memory) to include the manufacturers logo in high resolution. My tyres are in there as well and will show up in the sim when you replace your files in the data\dds dir.
EDIT.......... The upload file function on the forum is not working. I'll try again tomorrow!
hi
you have got skins, skins dds, skins x and y. you put any downloaded or made skins in skins folder. make sure that the picture format is jpeg (recomended).
Name it for example, XFG_lfspd.
Does it help? Then lunch lfs.exe and when on xfg go new colors and find lspd (or whatever you have named it.
I encountered the same problem with the nvidia plugin for photoshop, I'll give you the solution ,juste do not export trees with the photoshop plugin, exports then in png and made a conversion with DDS Converter 2, but before that check the option "Save Alpha (if any)", finally you can see the result .
I hope you can understand, and sorry for my bad english .
Thought I'd randomly Bump this thread by 2 months with a shot of my daily driver, it's not available for download (c'mon...I know you'd all want it!) and I have better DDS on this PC which make the lights fit better but anyway, my UF1:
I tried also and even with the brightest level settings, it looks a bit darker. Feel free to check out the video below on "How to edit DDS files" and you can give it a go as it's not too hard.
little "improvement suggestion" - uninstall with keeping personal settings (replays, setups, skins, binds, settings,...)
this will make things much easier for people that want to remove VOB mods, messed something in dds and so on... or some kind of repair LFS feature, like most of todays programs have
It's easier to get Paint.net & watch the video below so you can edit the tire DDS file (LogoAlpha.dds) and can make it look exactly how you want it to look.
Thanks Spotty & Fragen! I've tried several programs in regards to editing DDS files and have found Paint.net to be the easiest program to use since it can open, edit, and save any DDS file with DXT1, DXT3, or DXT5 settings. DXT3 and DXT5 are especially useful when editing gauge clusters that have an alpha channel where the RPM lights and engine data appears.
Just in case you cant reach the video,I have uploaded a DDS file for you to try it.
When your placing an object in LFS Autocross, Select "Markers" or "Cones". ( I haven't done any others yet, these were a test ).
Marker 100 - marker 25 needs to be aligned to spell THE HOME OF ANGLE. (Does't NEED to but it's what it is)
Marker S2 R is a stop sign.
Marker R L is a caution light.
The green Cone and post are also animated.
After placing them down, drive around and see what happens.
-You need to move towards or away from the objects. No movement = No Animation.

Hey,
Here is my design for the tail-lights and the headlights. The headlights are styled after Audi's A4 (I got them from smove). The tail-lights are completely fictional and made by me. Hope you like it!
To install this mod, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\LFS\data\dds (or wherever your dds folder is) and replace the file in the attachment. Don't forget to backup!
A bunch of assorted layouts that I created long time ago (mostly recreated due to LFS updates). Have only tested by myself & on a few LAN gaming nights . Feel free to use 'em on a server (would like to try online myself so let me know if your hosting :P ).
Layouts include replays to make them easier to navigate (*.spr files), supplied links to skins too (some skins created by me, some not. Thanks go to those skin creators. If you want the link to your skin removed please let me know.) Currently only hosted on RapidShare Free (files are auto-deleted after 30 days of no downloads) because of inept ISP still not giving me my webpage info, so if links aren't working let me know so I can re-upload the files.
Layouts from local car club motorkhana: https://rapidshare.com/files/3556842381/AU1_real-mk.zip
approx 110kb
9 layouts with replays. If you switch view to "top down" you should be able to see a mini-map version of each layout at the end of each replay.
Rally special stage (all tar): https://rapidshare.com/files/3 ... 3/AU3_Special%20Stage.zip
did have a couple of others that were side-by-side racing (hoping that LFS will someday support this), but haven't got around to re-creating them since last update
Brief install instructions:
extract files from zip
select sort by extension in you file manager (mainly for zips with mutliple layouts)
lyt (layout) files go into the "LFS\data\layout" folder
spr (replay) files go into the "LFS\data\spr" folder
jpg (skins) files go into the "LFS\data\skins" folder
dds (skins) files go into the "LFS\data\skins_dds" folder
/me slaps himself. Just noticed the attachments option. Will have to do that later.
Added some previews as requested, due to scale of some they're difficult to do pics for (hillclimb layouts [avg of 2min run]). Didn't do motorkhana pack ones either.
