If you use DDS with Opaque Alpha channel, it will just disappear and won't give you reflection. You need a glass material.

You will have to make a VRay material to get good results. I don't think a .dds material will do it.

The material I use is different in all scenes to get the most out of it, but I think a good start for you is this website: http://vraymaterials.de/

If you search for a glass material, you can check what kind of base settings a glass material has, and tweak it to match your scene.

That file is just an imagen with an alpha channel. You need an editor that allows you to edit ita, and save it as DXT5 dds.

White = visible.
Black = transparent, therefor not visible.

Just tried this with LFS 0.6E and it worked fine.

Make sure you copy the contents of both the colours and skins_dds folders properly. The directory structure should be something of the like:


C:\LFS\data\
colours\
BF1_AI 1.col
BF1_AI 2.col
BF1_AI 3.col
...

skins_dds\
BF1_ACURALMP.dds
BF1_ALPINESTAR.dds
BF1_BENETTON89.dds
...

Well, if they are .JPG format, you should go to your LFS directory.

LFS>Data>Skins (place .jpg here)

or if its .DDS file, put it in to skins_DDS

Go to pits, click on "new skin" and then it should compress (maybe idk) and then appear.

Unless things have changed, the headlights are still a DDS file.. or in other words, not part of the skin at all. In which case, they will see every car with the same type headlights as they have. It's too bad such is the case!

It has happened to a few people and there are several threads about it.

I would guess if you can't solve it, the quickest way is just download and reinstall a clean lfs. Just remember to back up you skins, sets, dds etc

That may be confusing so I'll describe it a different way :

you want a new version of a texture named xxx.dds
save xxx.raw in the pic folder
delete xxx.dds
run LFS - it will create a new file xxx.dds from xxx.raw[..]

Anyone knows if this still works in 0.6E ? And if yes, how ?
I have tried saving .raw from Photoshop ==> Resulting file wasn't auto-converted to dds, and in game I got the "unable to load x.dds file" error

Due to the way this 16x16 DDS is mapped on the model, you can only use it as a 1x1. Trying to apply a non-plain-color texture will lead to bad results.

Just tried the DDs with GIMP, works fine.

DDS files are Directdraw Surface texture files. You cannot open them without a specific plugin to a painting software, which seems like you are using paint.

I'd recommend getting GIMP, and using a specific plugin for DDS files, from here:

Interior as in new textures or an other model (.vob mod)? The latter is not allowed. Replacing some .dds files is allowed.

Inspired by Gerben's renders (3dRipperDX stuff) I found few hours and played a bit with South City track. Now these are only fun tests without cars. I wanted to see if it's possible to bring these meshes into modo with all UV and Texture data. Initially I had some problems but I figured out how to convert dds into pngs files and it turned out well eventually.

I plan to convert some more maps, maybe improve them a little and make some more interesting shots with cars next time. Here's what I have so far:

i have done a few car skins using the cmx veiwer and standard templates. but im wanting to design my own skin for the steering wheel. i know i cant change the shape of it but i can make a skin for it right? does anyone have a template i can use or can tell me how to edit the dds file

Could you explain what you mean by bug? It looks normal to me except for the DDS mods.
