Of course. You said you can`t use photoshop`s plugin, but that doesn`t mean you don`t have photoshop. The converter works perfectly fine too for what you want, but there may be something about your system stopping it.
If you don`t have photoshop, and DDS Converter doesn`t work, I`m sure GIMP has a .dds importer available that would do the job. I haven`t tried it myself, but Paint.net may be able to import .dds (and obviously export to .png), and the ATi Compressonator tool should be able to do it too (I think it also has a batch processor in it to make mass conversions quicker, but it`s been a while).
Extremely tired this evening, so posts may not be as happy sounding as usual
Here is my little program which allows you to change rims in XRG.
Currently there are 10 sets of rims available.
Every rim has its own texture so you can customize them for your own needs.
Unlike Bespoke, XRG Rims Manager can be used online. It doesn't cause CPW error/ban.
(Since 0.6B it doesn't work online anymore. Thanks Scawen.)
Of course other people at the server won't be able to see your rims, which is quite clear.
I'm sure you would like to ask why I didn't make it for FZ5, XRT, RB4 or any other car... I will answer right away - rims of all S1/S2 cars are encrypted which makes them impossible to change. That also explains why last Bespoke was released for X10 which was last patch with XRT as a demo car.
So now you will probably ask - why don't you make it for XFG? Because XFG isn't using the "new wheel drawing system" (at the moment only in XR, FBM and Scirocco) and that's why, but once devs will update XF's rims I will consider that...
I've been using Paint.NET to make a skin for the LX4 that I will use frequently when i get my S2 license. So far I have downloaded plugins for DDS and PSD files, and its been working great for me. It's also user friendly, theres a few things you need to get used to but once you do it easy to use.
I saw that some people wanted the 2010 F1 tires look in the BF1.
Since i had made these files for my personal use anyway, why not share, right ?
From the readme:
------------------------------------------------
F1 2010 Slick Tires textures for Live For Speed
------------------------------------------------
Made by tibone.
Notes :
This mod replaces the EvoStar sidewall, so when you pick EvoStar, it will actually show the Bridgestone Potenza soft tires (Green Striped).
And the regular Bridgestone is for the hard tires (no stripe).
Installation :
Extract the archive into your LFS root folder. (/lfs).
Files replaced are /lfs/data/dds/LOGOALPHA.DDS and /lfs/data/dds/TYRE.DDS.
To un-install it :
Copy the files from original_textures folder into /lfs/data/dds.
No other files are changed with this mod.
------------------------------------------------
This files are provided as is, and i don't take responsability for any unwanted change it might occur to your game.
It shouldn't cause no problem with online racing.
------------------------------------------------
Any questions, opinions, etc, just ask in this thread, ok ?
Enjoy the textures.
LFS will not download a skin if a file with that exact name already exists, that is, if the existing file is also newer than the one on LFSW. Always worked that way for me, with .jpg and .dds
The wire frames in the Master Skinnerz Pro Kits are made from data pulled directly from the CMX files included with the CMX Viewer. A custom-made program is used to do this, any decent graphics programmer should be able to make a similar tool, or at least understand how one might be made. The program can also pull just the 'faces' of each poly, which is a neat trick but of no real value for skinning.
The data from both the points (nodes) and sides (edges) of each triangle is used to create a metafile. There are various types of metafile that will work, wmf works fine.
The resulting wmf file is not quite square but it's an easy job to rescale it perfectly to whatever resolution desired (MSz kits have a 2048 x 2048 size by default, but a few rare kits have been made at higher resolutions for particular groups in the community and were not released publicly).
The wmf is then imported into Corel Draw and 'cleaned up' by hand for clearer viewing/skinning and to make the whole thing easier to understand. Individual 'wires' (edges of triangles in each poly) can be selected and removed as individual objects, which is what they now are - individual vector objects.
The finest line thickness possible is used in Corel to reduce pixelation when the final product is exported as a PSD. Since PSD is not a vector format the quality suffers slightly but the result is still very good.
*One kit (the XFG) was also made in SVG format. The only way this would work was to convert the various elements of the Pro Kit to eps and then import them into Inkscape, and finally export to SVG. Other methods tested failed to keep the kit and its layers/detail perfectly intact.
Because of the method used, the wire frames included in the Master Skinnerz Pro Kits have no background and can easily be placed on top of artwork without hiding it from view. The lines remain fairly clean after the PSD conversion because the data used to create the PSD was vector data, not a JPG or bitmap etc.
It is not difficult to export the Corel file (CDR) to various different formats including AI, EPS and other lossless formats, however in order to protect the hard work of the author and partly because most people don't use vector programs, the MSz kits were produced in PSD format (apart from a few rare examples as eluded to in the above text).
So in brief:
- Pull the data from the CMX mesh and make it a metafile.
- Import the metafile in into a vector program such as Corel Draw (or Adobe Illustrator).
- Make sure it is rescaled to square dimensions.
- Clean up the congested areas like door and bonnet seams, mirror stem polys etc. (if desired).
- Export as PSD, or whatever format you want to use with your graphics software, or better still make your skins in the vector program and export to JPG or DDS directly.
Hope this helps. Please don't message me any questions 'cos that's all I know!
I struggle with it as well, end up fishtailing wildly everywhere, its as if there is no middle ground with it, its either gripping, or it isnt, very little (if any) oppertunity to keep a hold of it, by the time it starts to spin, its already spun!
I wasnt a huge fan of the interior colour either, easily sorted tho, import DDS file into photoshop, set colour saturation to zero, normal coloured interior!
I actually do like the lx6, tis a bastard to drive, but it is at least driveable for me, just, not that im quick, but i can manage to drive it okay ish.
The lx4 on the other hand seems horrible to drive, and much more difficult than the lx6, which is odd, you'd expect the more powerful one to be more difficult, strange.
As bob smith once said, an lx cannot be over powered, just under controlled.
New smiley lights for XR. Get DDS converter to convert it to dds or save it as dds with other programs that can open dds files. Sorry but it won't upload the screenshots
"Do you use the DIS effect On or Off?" (Fog/mist?)
In my particular case, OFF.
Thanks for your post. Added to the post number two.
Thanks for the comments again.
@Thezero. This year, probably, I will not work on more textures. The next project is a video Teaser about RP August 28th 2009 (FZ50's textures), and the following is Team VR promotional video.
@ADX.14. Maybe a trouble with your graphic card?. Dds default texture? "Skin"_default.dds corrupted? (From Skins_dds file).
If in your options menu you have "used compressed skins" turned on, LFS will convert any jpg skins to .dds, and use those. So, if you delete the jpg skin the dds is still in the skins_dds folder, and the game will use it. Delete the dds skin and it should no longer appear.
serius Lynce.. this latest pack looks damn hot within LFS.. i have failed numorus times then i following/leading @ drifts cause i have watched the surounding more then i have looked to the "road direction" ppl are wondering why i have to say i was looking to the landscape´s..
what´s the next improvement u gonna do?? grafik´s like .dds on tree´s etc ?? i hope.. cause of the time u put down to reflections and car addons it will look really Lovley..
keep it up man. i love ur work and what u put into LFS for all users that have it installed.
If you save the .dds version of the skin in your LFS\Data\Skins_DDS then it will work in LFS. However as its only the 512x512 version then it will be very low res.
I would try uploading the .jpg to the forum again as it should upload it here.
Oh, that's a shame. For some reason the LFS forum and Imageshack both cannot upload the .jpg file of the skin. I'm sorry guys, it looks like I can't post it then. I will edit the .dds file out of my last post, because it doesn't work either.
