no, editing DDS files is okay, people have done it to their headlights and other places (replacement back seats, steering wheels, etc)... they're just texture files.
edit: but i never downloaded the file. from the pictures i couldn't tell there was indeed a vob mod attached.

Reason : writing error
Your not running 1x FULL HD monitor and 2x 1280x1024 montiors...You also dont have a DUAL CORE processor, you dont have DDR2 ram, you dont run high settings (Highish/Medium)
Basically YOUR PC STINKS (being polite and honest) If you were to put 2 GPU's in it, grab one FULL HD monitor and 2 other crap boxes, put em on their and also run softth and see what FPS you get.
Im pretty sure your PC would crash and blow up because its too much for it.

2GB Ram
500GB HD
1x 32" Monitor OR 1x 26" Monitor
(Both use 1280x1024)
My max FPS on an open layout can reach 230 on MAX settings (Like +Mirror for all the options max AA ect ect, HD Resolutions for Skins/dds files) my lowest can get to 46FPS when drifting and have alot of smoke
These FPS readings are from Open Config Layouts (X and Y)
Im unsure why LFS couldn't have a option to have the tracks fully loaded instead of loading the section your driving on (Like loading parts of the track as your driving along)
Very nice updating tho, Im in love with the X and Y tracks
Scawen. Is there any way we can get 3 extra "arrow" boards? We can change the dds ourselves to 50, 100, 150, 200m brake markers if you just want to leave them blank for us. I know you were able to just duplicate the ramp object and make it wider. Any chance you can do something similar with the turn left and right signs so we can have brake markers?
It sounds small but it is very helpful when racing, especially with these new open configurations that have been a big hit the past few days.

Related (but not test patch related): LFS will show the error message saying "Could not open file: data\skins\HEL_DEFAULT.jpg" if you've deleted the "HEL_Default.dds" from the lfs/skins_dds folder.
Is it meant to say ".jpg", as AFAIK there are no xxx_default.jpg files in the default install (the default files are as xxx_default.dds). Thought I might be wrong here.

Can you make shadows darker under the car? I think this is the easiest way to add visual realism. seems it is not difficult to put a dark texture just below the car and the wheels, look what I mean ..
would be even better if this shadow was in DDS and it was possible to configure its brightness
you want to change the skybox colours? i'm not sure if those are in the dds, or the wld files... does anyone know how the night mod is supposed to work? i think it works the same way.

i might have to say that i usually dont put a starting position into my layouts, as i like driving straight out of the pits and cruise around a bit with an amount of laps i choose myself. so i was a bit confused where you've started there, because actually it was out of the track next to the white lines. and in the last turn you can cross those white lines on the left inner "exit" side of the track, as this is only a marking for pitexit lane, which shouldnt be crossed when you leave the pits
and you forgot to download the chalkALPHA.dds file to see the curbs :P

The very first Layout is my first try to rebuild a present track you may all know, its the "Norisring" from Nuremberg,
especially well known for the DTM runs there.
Because the Car Park isn't huge enough,
there are some small changes in the turns, but its still challenging.
