There is a hacky solution for that. Use TexFactory to convert the downloaded .dds skins in the skins_x/skins_y folder(s) and upscale them with some form of image upscaler (Waifu2x is a decent free one, I personally use GIGAPIXEL). That way you're not putting any extra strain on LFS servers, yet you still get high-res skins although they wont look exactly the same as the original skins since you're upscaling from 512x or 1024x.

I'm afraid you would need vob mod for that. The dds is only for that country stripe thing.

You can change suits by replacing files
SUITB.jpg or SUITG.jpg or SUITR.jpg or SUITS.jpg or SUITX.jpg or SUITO.jpg
in LFS\data\pic folder

And for gloves, you must change
Gloves_A.dds or Gloves_B.dds
in LFS\data\dds folder

Then in Options > Driver you can chose suit you want

Thank you for sharing this information. Smile

The main problem is that i have to disable the sky and almost blackout the sky dds texture so i can boost the dynamic reflections. I failed to find a way (inside the shaders) to leave the sky enabled with its default texture, but somehow lower the brightness of it, while keeping the dynamic reflections brighter - is that even possible?

I'm not using "env_dir.z * 120000000.0f" anymore, instead:

float4 envmap_col = tex2D(s_T2, env_dir.xy * float2(0.55f, 0.5f) + float2(0.5f, 0.5f));
float env_map_mul = reflectivity_mul * saturate(env_dir.z + 0.4f) * 19.0f;

- but probably it is best to leave it to "saturate(env_dir.z * 2.0f) * 19.0f;"

Still does not work... even with dds from working folder

I also tried adding the $3 pounds... that is a no go as well.

Wow really nice,if you ever decide to share the shader files please let me know Smile

Yes, I'm sharing them, its just a test. Big grin
But they are working only with Rockingham - Clear Sunset and you have to replace Sky_sunset 2c.dds also, if you want a brighter sky you have to go to Options -> Graphics and set "Draw sky" to off. Remember to backup the original files.

I'm editing this part of Cars2.psh if you want to tweak it:

ret.rgb = diffuse_lighting * In.VCol * texture_col.rgb * 2.5f;
float3 env_dir = e_env - 2.01f;
float env_map_mul = reflectivity_mul * saturate(env_dir.z * 120000000.0f) * 20.0f;

I'm using ReShade too (adds bloom, sharpening, film grain and dof).

1. For LFSLazy dashboards, (specifically on XRG) would it be possible to have oil and engine temp needles next to the dials?

When I try move them they only show either between the dials, or above the shifter (middle of car - XRG).

2. If it is not possible to fix (1.), would it be possible to add linear oil and engine temp gauges? (so they can be used as OilLin and TempLin, displayed where the dials typically are in XRG).

Screenshots of the WIP (with permission from Vano Paniashvili):
a.) as you can see the oil and engine temp gauges underneath the RPM dial doesn't have the respective needles. I'm trying to either add needles to both of them, or make them lin-gauges.
b.) I don't want to have to edit the .dds files as well, as its nice to keep the whole mod within one gauges folder.

actually, i saw something promising about this car because i was mucking about in the dds skins/pics in the data base, and i saw thing like VWS wheels, VWS steering wheel. and in the dds skins there we the VWS skins.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

Btw, I'm not using a slick tyres on all cars, it looks like that because of the custom TYRE.dds texture. Big grin

That's not how encryption works. If you want to encrypt something, you must keep it encrypted. But then the LFS can't display it.

If the LFS will display it, then it did decrypt it already. All you need is to extract the dds from the GPU directly, the LFS will never know it happened. Encryption of the files in LFS folder is useless (it will stop only people like you).

I'm using a custom TYRE.dds, so maybe that's why it look like that to you.

This is where community can step in - as you see all dds files are there and editable. Do the best out of it!
Also - if you have followed forum,currently tracks are being updated,which means many ugly low res textures might get updated too. Judging from screenshots - Autocross and Aston already have received texture updates.

You can do this with .dds files, create mipmaps and every 2nd mipmap change it to a different skin, and it'll change the texture when you go further/closer to the car

I've been rolling this idea for some track side textures to make a big screen that would seem like it has a moving picture once you get closer to it, but it doesn't look that great. Big grin
I remembered something crazy in the skins that would be amazing with new graphic

Today I was reminded of something that might even be interesting to bring to LiveForSpeed
I'm in the game "Colin Mcrae Rally 3&4 " I have a joke that I really like, that I create a skin and that it can take two forms.
Remember the Ken Block painting that changed color?
In Colin Mcrae Rally can do that, it was enough because version b of this painting changed as wanted

Example car I'm talking about >https://www.carthrottle.com/post/w37y7lk/<

Imagine, there is a Skins.DDS folder and there was a Skinsb.DDS folder that would give the main skin (which would be in the skins.dds folder) and it would change the skin that you would like to change and that reflection of that change was along with the original skin. example happens in CMR3 \ CMR4 and looks beautiful!

What? :-o

IIRC, you can upload to lfsworld fake skin (which will be shown to other players when online), and update local skin file on your disk, so you will see your correct skin on your computer = problem solved.

If you want others to see your skin, you are making it technically public, the data are available. Decent people will respect your wish to not use it, if you say so, but there is no way to have both display of skin, and not providing data of skin, at the same time. (and "dds" doesn't prevent anything, you think it's difficult to convert it to other formats?)

Or don't use custom skins at all, it's just look of the car, who cares...

There should be a way for the skins being converted to dds into the X folder, to have a size less than 100x100. So other players would not have access to private skins, not being able to convert them to jpg.
