You do not have hmn folder? Strange, because folders do not disappear by themself.
Perhapse you installed the z28 patch into it's own folder or did some dds modding and changed something by mistake. Maybe you moved the folder by mistake, do a search for it, if you find it, move it back to the data folder.
If no luck, I suggest move all your LFS files somewhere as a backup (ie: rename your LFS folder to LFS-backup), then a fresh re-install LFS. Then copy your setups across from the old install.
I used to play on 1500/256kbps upload fine on Aussie/NZ servers. (You're getting around 280kbps) which is enough for LFS.
What servers are you playing on? You're going to lag on anything around Europe and US. Ping from Adelaide to UK is about 350ms which is pretty ugly, only just playable, but also highly dangerous. You are locationally disadvantaged if you want to play on Europe or US servers. only solution available is to move there.
You've never tried contacting Telstra huh?

Uhm, no mention that it is a H-Gate shifter, in that case clutch isn't really usefull IMO. Unless of course you plan a some time in the future to build your own H-Gate shifter or buy a separate one which aren't that cheap. I don't (anyone?) ever use a clutch in seq. mode.
I don't think it's normally necessary to unplug G25 BEFORE shutdown and reconnect AFTER boot up. Something strange with your PC might require this, but I really think this problem is quite rare.
Each S1 S2 S3 costs the same, you do not miss out on anything by purchasing S2 and later S3, nor does it cost any more in total. If you are contemplating buying S3, then just buy S2 now, enjoy that for a while then when S3 is released, pay the little bit extra and upgrade. No point waiting for S3 when you can play S1 and S2 now.
If you like the demo then S2 will make you happy and keep you busy for hours.
Look at what's clearly popular on LFS server's right now. Cargame.nl and Cruise it appears.
Think about why:
Hardcore racers don't care much about points, building up a career, MMO exP, just pick-up and race the car you want, maybe some league racing away from noobs. I can understand this point of view. Most of them have left until LFS is updated again later. (Yes I am generalising, but you have to when looking at large numbers)
What you have left is more casual players, wanting to 'work' for some goal, acheivements and rewards, to fill the void that no new content has left - trying to sqeeze every ounce from the LFS experience so to speak. So they gravitate towards the multi-class and cruise servers keeping them most popular.
Do you think the first inSim programmers (think of he who made lapper) did it because he thought it would be popular, no - he did it because he wanted to do it. You should do something because you want to do it, that way if it fails you have still achieved what you want. If you are doing it to hope it is popular and it fails then you will be dissapointed.
As the saying goes, 'build it and they will come'.
edit: I know I have not helped much, but I think it's hard to guage popularity of something before it is done. Many who are in the forums now don't even play LFS now, many who are in LFS don't even read these forums. It may be hard to get a real picture of what will be popular, that's why I wrote a worst case scenario.
edit2: maybe make a lite version to help understand how popular it would be? It would be a shame to do months of work coding, organising, etc, and no-one joins. Think minecraft.
I'd say you're being pretty optimistic here regarding iRacing
Go back to previous page, in those videos, the iRacing founder admits the current tyre physics are pretty much faked with curves at this point, (abeit, fairly well it appears), but none-the-less it appears to only just be catching up with the LFS tyre model (ie: stuff like tyre flex and contact patch movement). (Source thanks aaltomar)
Any-who, this is tyre physics thread, don't want to start a sim vs sim argument of course , extra content doesn't concern me too much, just a better driving model, but thanks for your infos.
Wheel limit calibration:
When you come back to game from restart, the wheel must re-calibrate itself, that is why small movements translate to large movement in game. The game has to in a re-learn where the limit of the wheel axes are evertime you restart. As you move the wheel further and further the game realises you have a wheel with more allowable degrees.
You can set this permamently - Set your profiler to 720 degrees. then use the options >> controls >> Axes/FF menu ingame and click recalibrate axes up the top right. Then once you've moved all axes (wheel + peddels) to limits, then click lock to save it.
(At least this is how I understand it - but with my system I can leave it on unlock and it still works fine, even when first starting the game. So maybe I don't understand this lock/unlock properly after all. It used to follow this functionality when I used a USB Dual axis Joypad.)
Wheel not centring:
Sometimes my wheel (G25) goes off centre after computer has been alseep. When this happens I either must reboot PC, or unplug G25 from USB and plug it back in an Windows recalibrates and sets the correct centre position. Also moving the wheel while windows account is locked sometimes messes up my wheel centre, requiring me to recalibrate wheel by unplugging/plugging back in G25 USB.
by the way, LFS game cannot yet change G25 profiler settings so this option has no effect in regards to LFS.
I'm not an expert of any kind, but I kinda have an impression that the iRacing tyre updates won't be out for a few months at least for all cars (watching the SRT open day video interview) and even then it will only equal what LFS already has now, if not, then either close or only slightly better. After this then LFS would soon get the awaited update and again surpass iRacing physics-wise. If let's assume LFS is patched within the next 12 months is this statement above reasonable?
Just remember some people NEED to use Auto for various reasons. eg..
- They are physically disabled.
- Controller method does not accomodate gears.
- Don't have the co-ordination/skill/understanding yet to use manual.
So you cannot completely remove Auto gears option for some cars as you said. Added to your solution which is - the transmission type put into the setup menu, no. of gears available and weight changes when you modify it, [similar to how you can change the diff], BUT also have something similar for the GTR's setup as well. The transmission would allow AUTO for those that do REQUIRE it, but gear changes are slower and weight etc is affected. The NUMBER of total gears doesn't have to change for the GTR's like in the road cars Auto setup.
But in the end, Auto gears already has it's disadvantages in lap times, at least, I always find it less agressive on Auto.
True dat. Like a motion sickness after too much of it. But my point was would be hard to mess up your normal perception from too much gaming. That's engrained at a very young age.
Yeh, and +1 on the convergence info. Thanks for sharing.
Well you have to play hell of a lot a lot to make this happen. I played a heli sim DCS:BS (big screen+TrackIR) for about 3 days straight (yeah 16-20 hour sessions) and felt a little bit of occasional vertigo for about a day afterwards. No worse then spending 1 night on a cruise ship in rough seas. so GAME ON!
