umm,for the record, I wasn't serious. I was taking the piss

The way I saw it, the idea was that the car would slowly degrade if you forget to change the oil and engine performance would be affected which wasn't a such a BAD idea, trying to add some realism is good. But to only have to press a button?? then I would just do this EVERY race end so it would eventually become annoying to have to do it all the time.

FAR FAR cooler idea would be if you crash badly then you start leaking oil everywhere, other cars could slip in the oil and you car's engine would slowly die and explode with pieces flying everywhere littering the track causing other car's tyres to have a blowout. So yeh, improved damage model, but only affecting the race at hand. Once you hit the pits screen everything gets repaired and you car gets washed.

Sorry if I am wrong, but we have some monitors at work that do this until you tell it to save the auto adjusted settings. (Confirm OK [1]) comes up after the adjustment completes. We have to hit the [1] button to finish the process.

Otherwise, as Bob said, take the back plate off and disconnect the wires to the button. However you may want to click it at some point, so you might want to keep the ends accessible so you can short them out when needed without having to open the monitor case each time.

Consult someone with electronic knowledge before opening up the monitor. At least make sure it's not plugged in at least when you open it up.

So how would this be done?

Click a button in pits to change it?

is LFS freezing for you to?

Just wanted to post about a recent issue I have since Z17. If I leave LFS running for an hour or so in the background, eg.. do some forum reading etc. and come back to LFS it often freezes up (both CPU's at 50%) for a long period of time. Like 1-2 minutes then . At first I thought it was my new GPU (HD4890 1gb), so I went back to the Z15.exe and it never happened.

It usually happens when in 3D mode, ie, the Race select screen or in game, not so on the server list or main menu. I only use shift-F4 to switch to windows in case you're wondering.

IDK, there's a lot of variables and it's hard to reproduce and does not appear in systems crash logs. Sometimes after waiting an hour it doesn't happen and sometimes only after 5 minutes of LFS being out of focus, yet the freeze length is shorter, but it does happen everyday so it's getting frustrating. I'll try a fesh install of Z20, but just really asking if anyone else is experiencing this phenomena since the new multi-screen functionality has been introduced.

system: e8400, 4GB, HD4890 oc 1gb, Win XP pro sp3, 1920x1080x60hz

no...........he says that upfront so people don't clog up the test patch forum with bs like,

"where is the scirocco / rockingham?"

You have to spell out things to the absolute letter to stop the eejits.

huh? you can do +115 degrees angle drifts in LFS.

Quote from Flame CZE :The ABS light indicator is always on on remote cars online (XRT etc.). Is that because of different test patch?

Edit: I just noticed that the ABS indicator is on when ABS is off. Why isn't it off too?

Quote from Mr Roberts :
It should come on when ABS is switched off. This is because, as far as I know, on real life cars where you can switch off ABS, the ABS light will stay on as a warning.

beaten but I looked for the quote

Quote from Azzmagoo :dude, i swear it aint Bull the only reason why i now this is because i did it by accident trying to unscrew the pedal, iam not lying, to prove it the nxt time i get a spike in my pedal i will record it showing it works or even better you try it .

You cannot recalibrate a potentiometer by shorting it out. It's a single variable resistor, there is nothing electronic to recalibrate or erase.

Dust/dirt and wear makes them fail. You probably bumped it when you took your pedal unit apart.

Quote from GeForz :so.. how many road cars have gear indicator in the dash? ;p

Quite a few if they are auto/sequential, but gated manual transmission.... not many I guess.

I think this is a pretty weird suggestion. Perhaps it'd be better to get the crash physics just fixed sometime instead of adding strange autoX objects. I'd also find it pretty weird driving a layout circuit/track and seeing walls made up of lines of cars.

Quote from JO53PHS :Thought I'd try and post something vaguely helpful regarding the low FPS problem. For me, there are currently several 'problem areas' in the replay posted. These being at the exit of T1, mid way through T2, the exit of T3 and the T5/6 bit. As well as probably most other turns followed by AutoX objects.

LFS Patch Z: 50-60 FPS in all the problem areas.
LFS Patch Z18: 10 - 20 FPS in the problem areas.

I also tried with Z15, which was pre-improved multiple screen support. There was still the same 10 - 20 FPS in the problem areas, as in Z18.

I don't know if this helps, but it would be interesting to see what FPS other people get when playing this replay in Z18. (Ignore the fact the replay is named Good FPS. This has no relevance to anything :tilt

My specs: e8400, 4GB, HD4890oc1GB, res 1920x1080
edit specs: Win XP Pro SP3

I think maybe your CPU is getting bottlenecked by layouts which are quite CPU intensive.

For some reason this spot attached below has the FPS is lowest for me. Quite similiar from Z10-Z18. Mirrors was set to 0.3 in both versions. Everything else is the same.
Paused in both screenshots
Z10 - 78.0 FPS
Z18 - 77.8 FPS

Funny though cause in my head when I was playing both versions I was under the impression that z18 was 5% less FPS.

LFS can only list what you have available to you in Windows. So you have to fix that issue in Windows before LFS will be able to use that resolution.

Sorry, but I do not have expereince with nVidia under Vista nor do I know what causes the resolution to disappear after yor computer enters sleep mode. You might have to find that out youself on the internet, or someone may post here what the issue is.

Try a reboot, maybe it will come back? Then disable sleep mode or something.

Hah, no that doesn't give me grey hair.

You are trying to change it here yes? This is a stock photo as I don't use Vista.

If you can't get 1440x900 in that screen then you got a problem. There's an Advanced settings button in that Dialog box. Once in there, one of the tabs (Adapter?) has an button.. List All Modes. Try look in there for 1440x900. Make sure you use pick 32bit colour.

Can you find that 1440x900 in your nVidia control panel? RIght click the nVidia logo down in the task bar (Tray icons)

If you can't see it in those you need to re-install the corredct nVidia dirvers for your graphics card. 1440x900 should not be difficult to find, something aint quite right here.

Quote from logitekg25 :my moniter is this

and i have everything on my computer set to 1360 by 768, and that is set properly in lfs, and the shift F9 F10 F11 F12 is set to max (shift F12) i forget what it is called but remember how to change it mid-race

Firstly... as has been said : FIRST set up Windows to your native resolution. (1440 x 900) from the Windows desktop. Setting up Windows to 1360 x 768 will just make everything wrong for a start.

Then once you've got windows working this is how you fix the LFS config. if it doesn't have the 1440 x 900 option in Options >> Screen.

This is how you can fix it. Rename the following files -
card_cfg.txt rename to OLDcard_cfg.txt
&
cfg.txt rename to OLDcfg.txt

This is the same as deleting them, but you can restore them later if you need to or need to OR refer back to old settings that your forgot you had used.
Note: when messing with cfg.txt and card_cfg.txt MAKE SURE LFS IS CLOSED COMPLETELY or the changes to those files will not apply.

Then restart LFS and if you got Windows set up right in the first place (1440x900), it should detect your Windows settings at 1440x900 and then make it available inside the menus of LFS.

You might not be able to use Shift+F9 - Shift+F12 as a shortcut to change resolution because I'm not sure if 1440x900 is a setting there by default. You can define your own shortcuts in the Screen menu in LFS. If you want to know the cfg.txt lines that adjust all those Shift+F9/Shift+F12 shortcuts are:
INFO_F9 1 0 640 480
INFO_F10 1 0 800 600
INFO_F11 1 0 1024 768
INFO_F12 0 60 1440 900

Sorry BUT I am pretty sure that the FOV was never saved for each car. It's like a global setting and that's why it's in that top group of settings like number of screens, angle of each screen and the new wheel offset setting. Same as head movement setttings in the bottom group.

You can add a script for each car to change the FOV with
/fov [degrees]
see:
data/script/XRT.lfs
data/script/XRR.lfs
data/script/XRG.LFS
data/script/FXO.lfs
data/script/FXR.lfs
etc etc

The only ones that are saved for each car have always been the X,Y,Z offset settings (the seat position), rotation and pitch settings. Mirror Z,Y position to IIRC.

edit: sorry, didn't realise that FOV used to be saved for Custom Views. I only use Cockpit view.

Well at the moment we don't know what resolution you have selected in LFS, or even what resolution you have for your LCD monitor.

So tell us what is your screen resolution supposed to be?
The monitor you bought... what is it's maximum resolution supposed to support?

something like
1920 x 1080
or 1600 x 1200
or 1680 x 1050
or 1440 x 900
?

Then, tell us if you set the same resolution in Windows (Display properties) and set the same reolution in LFS menu Options >> Screen

We're trying to help you but have no idea of your configuration or even what you are setting things to. It's like flying in the dark.

Does anybody KNOW what his native screen resolution is?

Whatever that is... make sure MICROSOFT WINDOWS is set to that resolution (Can you tell us what screen you have?) .... and make sure LFS is set to the SAME resolution in the OPTIONS >> SCREEN MENU

If the other cars around you are squished and your cockpit is ok then try changing your FOV Field of View, thats in View Menu or use 5 and 6 Keys on the keybaord

edit1: oh wait you added another post while my screen was open for an hour.
edit2: you posted a ruler? That image is scalable so I don't understand how that can prove anything.. I can resize the window and make 10 inches look like 1 inch.

Tell us? does this pictureappear perfectly round on your screen? Use this to get your desktop aspect ration correct if you think it's wrong in Windows.

I always know who the admins are anyway, my memory is good for this. Anyway, did you see the last name in my example? It's almost illegible.

And sorry if this is off topic, I didn't want to create a 3 page debate about something that has been decided on. I just wanted to point it out. Some will agree some will not.

The alphabetical sorted list is nice. MUCH easier to find players.

Please don't take this as ungrateful, but just personally, the dark background for the connections list kinda makes things look a bit jumbled.

In the past to find admins you could still press Shift+Ctrl to list the Usernames and the admin's licence names showed up as light greenish and this was really ok. All the backgrounds were light grey and the list looked neater and more professional in this respect. Somewhat easier to read when all bg colours are the same. Other people may disagree.

Quote from G!NhO :You don't want wheel lag, thats the same as for a 180 degree wheel you just don't want to use analogue steering input smoothing... Thats like playing an arcade racer in xbox/ps3.

Quote from JasonJ :

Believe me 0.88 is a good number. I used to use about 0.8. Much higher and you notice the wheel lag behind compared to what your stick inputs are.
