Great to hear about the progress. Looking forward to the "new" Westhill.

Hehe, that's great Scawen!
I do recall trying the anaglyph mode a while back (as built-in with the gfx-card) and it worked very well (as shown by Lucas McFly).

Enjoyed it for a couple of races now and then, also showed it to friends/relatives (who were generally knocked off the chair ).

However, you (well, I) start to miss the colors after a while and switch back to 2D. Nice to see your experiments with this option though!

Quote from The Very End :LFS was good, now it's okay-ish compared to what other games and projects can perform

What do you have in mind? And what specifically is it better at? I know AC is delivering a superb physic feel and pCars a nice atmosphere, but still not on pair with LFS when it comes to netcode. What are the titles you are referring to, iRacing?

Yeah ^^
That's a blast, even without the pacenotes...

Good to hear you like it. Much can be done with the ini-files to make it even better, depending on your preferences. But like I said, AC is like LFS, only thing is: it's better ! Still we have to evaluate the netcode and all that, so by "better" I mean driving the car offline...

Quote from atledreier :Oh the shitstorm they will receive for postponing the MP.... Poor guys...

What shitstorm? Nothing but cheers at the forums...!

Quote from Fordman :I haven't purchased it yet, as was waiting to be able to get new hardware first

You've got fun times heading your way Fordie! I bought into AC in its early stages and I've been mesmerized since. Have also been on the pCARS testing for 2 years by now, but AC shifted my focus, totally. Mainly because it is the only thing out there reminding me of LFS (as far as physics go). And it drives even better! (at least with my brain and hardware setup combination) .

First, it is good to see the discussion took off in the right direction; interesting arguments and a polite tone.
Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :To address the latter part of your argument, I would never propose the cessation of research if that's what you're trying to imply. It's excellent and I enjoy it. My only point here is to perhaps, get someone to try to see things from a slightly different point of view.

Thanks for sticking your chin out. The thread needs a little weight on the "believe" side to be more interesting. You say "research" is excellent and you "enjoy it". In what way do you enjoy it? To fully enjoy science results, one must also understand it (which in some cases is not easy). If one understands the presented research evidence, results and consequences, it is impossible to keep a "belief" in, for instance, 2000 years old documents. If you understand the research and concluding evidence, it is impossible to see other explanations valid. However, many results are not (yet) concluding, hence research continues to gather and analyse facts. Meanwhile, there's no reason to replace the gap with an illusion. The evidence will come time and space allowing.

The really "big" thing presents itself once you start to understand what we really know (based on scientific studies) and what it means to humanity. It is a feeling of huge proportions, filling life with true meaning, awesomeness, joy and respect. Truly fascinating! I sense personally that it creates a far greater feeling than an elevated illusion of a godlike "all-knowing" force built on the belief in false statements and execution of old traditions could ever deliver. That is just too plain simple to me. However, I do respect everybodys standpoint and wishes to persuade noone forcefully to think this or that. As long as people are happy, I'm happy. It is when consequences of religions are becoming damaging, that I raise my voice. Keep up the interesting/respectful discussion.

@No_Quarter: That is a very inspiring (short) review of LFS + Oculus Rift.
I hope Scawens work will reach more people like you, introducing more sim racers to LFS!

Glad to hear you enjoy LFS. It's a real gem in terms of online racing. Welcome aboard!
The VR support was just added, although Scawens longer project aims to refine the tyre physics. We've played this game for 10 years and hope for another 10 to come. The glory days were probably around 2005-2009 (for me), but with some updates in the tube we hope for a strong comeback.

@ImudilaSkyline: Why not help KS to get it right? That's why I do the early access; make my voice heard and hopefully contribute to shaping the sim into something we want. Much harder to change "things" once it's been released 1.0.

Like Marco Massarutto said: "everyone wants to race a 24 hour race, driving at night, under heavy rain, with broken suspension and a puncture. But just one time for a try"...
Yes, a more dynamic racing environment would be nice (diurnal cycle, atmospheric changes, etc)

When did people start to believe bashing, whining, shouting and complaining about a project would make a lead designer motivated to speed-up the implementation of further improvements?

Are the times of positive feedback and encouragement over? Where did the respect, forethought and gratitude go (towards other human beings)? Is it really necessary to communicate with a groundbreaking development group this way?

Do you think it will get their attention, but most important, do you think it will inspire them to go on? Is it really that hard to be polite and grateful on the internet? Have you tried writing a comment that is constructive, and at the same time, carries a polite tone resembling gratitude?

If you were a project leader for a successful product for over 10 years, what would you rather hear from your clients regarding the future:
a) "You s**k, because we want more and we havn't got it", or
b) "keep up the good work?" (point out the already present awesome features and suggest how new planned features can make it even better...)

I know, we all want the same thing; for LFS to progress, but it can be expressed in a way that will not totally ruin the motivation of its creators.

AC looks and feels promising indeed, so let's hope that platform will encourage Scawier to take on the challenge to elevate LFS even further. There's certainly a good potential in LFS, still. As a client I will simply enjoy both.

Yes, I thought I'd post it, but forgot about it since I simply edited the ini-files quite a while ago. I'll make a comment about it right now to see if it's a common wish.

Quote from sinbad :...but the physics are very good. I don't like aspects of the ffb,...

Quote from sinbad :Lfs physics are more rounded and the ffb is too imo, it's more cohesive, more "finished" even if it's not. Lfs is like a world where the physics are slightly different but you're "there".

Sorry for just taking out parts of your comment, but those statements (alone) are really important to me as well. I noticed that the ingame options were not enough to get me "there". For example, there's a "Speed sensivity" slider for your controller that starts at 0 and ends at 1 with increments of 0.05. I found that 0.05 is often too much for my liking, but 0 is far to "reactive". So I wished there would be increments of 0.005 (or at least 0.01).

Now this is not very hard to fix by editing the ini-files and save a couple of setups (using for example 0.025, 0.035, 0.040 etc). The same goes for some of the ffb "knobs", so I can only recommend to open notepad and start tweaking away a bit. Perhaps you will find more gold deep down in the basket . Just a tip, if you want to dig deeper in current build.

@danielroelofs: hmm. well that can be an issue with the momentum at slopes (down or up). I feel sometimes I should have a snap grip at Acque Minerale (10) entry and an understeer out, but I can only feel this in the BMW E30. Perhaps the longitudinal transfer (feeling) is not as good as the lateral? Very interesting point.

@danielroelofs: don't despair!
The way AC physics works is in it's own a step forward, just like LFS once took (and still trotts along). I think it comes down to a very personal level wether or not it "feels right". And that depends on your pc rig/hardware peripherals and how "you" would like the feeling transferred to your brain.

The funny thing is that AC feels just as LFS to me, that's why I like it. Although the weight transfer is better perceived in AC. I only have a G25, and with my personal tweaks I can achieve a very "pleasant" feeling in both AC and LFS. Now, AC still has a long way to go until it is a final product, but I hope the platform presented in its early access will suit many of us, just like LFS once did (and still does).

It is fun to have a title finally challenging LFS, so I can only see positive things coming out of it (for me). Hope you will find the sweetspot in AC eventually as you did in LFS. If not, stick with LFS, many (including me) will still be around LFS for a long time to come.

I owned a BMW E30. It is "scary" how similar it behaves to my real one. If I ever was going to use the phrase "they nailed it" it would be here (with reservation for even more improvements )!

I cannot speak for the supercars (never had one :razz, but the supposed "understeering" complaint referred to in that video is simply due to useless driving.

Also, AC needs a bit of tweaking before it settles nicely with your rig/setup, just like LFS and RBR etc. Time will tell if it will be the success that LFS is/was. The netcode is obviously going to be the key in terms of the MP experience. Happy driving!

@DieKolkrabe: Get it! Heaps of fun with the early access content.
AC is the one and only that actually reminds me of LFS. And that's only the beginning. Next time you buy something for sheer pleasure, save the bucks for AC...
