I do not say that your (demoracer) suggestion of "more better" tracks is wasted. However, the term "exciting" is often used to express a personal/individual view. So, even if you are not excited about Rockingham, there might be 20 000 others that are (oh, 20 001 including me).

I would definitely like to see more options of tracks, but meanwhile I'd be happy with a good quality scan of a real environment instead of some artificial silly hills (sry).

Rockingham will rock. When Scavier got the chance/license to actually reproduce a real world track using laser technology, that must have been a real interesting challenge. A challenge that will live thru its implementation to LFS. The main point here, is to push LFS one step closer to reality by doing just that. Like a pilot project. Just imagine if everything turns out well and the devs have a methodology to bring in real tracks to an already existing excellent physics engine. That provides a vast potential for further development regarding track content.

Whether or not you think the track is boring just seems irrelevant, especially since you (like SparkyDave said) bring up NFS to compare with(?). Sure you can enjoy NFS as much as you want, but by making such statements, it seems you have not yet grasped the potential and fun that many of us get from LFS.

It is good to see different categories of LFS players, ofcourse, but comments on LFS development needs to have some sort of solid arguments and relate to the core of LFS to be taken seriously. Otherwise they just go up in smoke.

yep, it will be interesting to see what they are up to eventually. Expectations are high since we already have an outstanding sim at our hands. It is now starting to get really, really interesting - release of new tyre physics approaching. LFS has heart and soul thanks to Scavier and not to forget all the great online racers, new and old, fast and slow.

Like Silverracer said, use the "Programmers" subsection. That's a great spot to start when building an InSim host.

I started off there nowing nothing about InSim and after a few days (more like a week) I had my server up and functional with InSim the way I wanted it (I know, I'm a slow learner, but my brain had no rush at the time ). Without excellent help from dedicated members I would still be lost in the dark feeling OutSimmed.

Quote :Comparing the XFG to my previous car (1.4 Corsa), when set up similarly (lowered with decent suspension settings) I can say that the physics are about 90% spot on.

I can only agree here, tried some similar things (seat ibiza) and it is (not surprisingly) "spot on".

Quote :Well ... i must say thank you guys for pushing me and encourage me to buy this wheel

Good to hear...

Quote :You are right, Formulas and GTR (minus FZR and UFR) don't have h-shifter gearbox

The paddles work nicely with the cars having them. However, don't be surprised if you find yourself racing in H-shifter cars more and more as it is a blast with a proper wheel setup (FXO, XRT, RB4 etc). The best is to spend some time on the FFB and turn range, damper, spring configs etc - to get the right feeling.

Good luck and glad you like it after first impressions. Now, LFS will only get better!!

Congrats algumista!

Hope you get it soon. It will change your world of LFS (if you like driving cars).

Let us know what your first impressions are and then 2 months later.

Quote :...but if you haven't even given the current content a proper chance, then why ask for more?

Sadly this tend to be the human nature. Buy a burger and ask for extra fries before you could even swallow the meat.

It is everywhere... get more, get more... dont use what is already there.... just get more... lol.

I myself has plenty to do with LFS at this stage. I need to develop a lot more on the fast tracks and faster cars... It is in my opinion too much to handle before the other patch comes out, so I hope it takes a long time...

Quote :it seems that maybe will not improve my times so much but will improvve the fun of driving ... and is also important

This is exactly what will happen.... The joy of driving simply outnumbers the will for win...
But eventually, you will also start improving on laptimes.. that is just "inevitable"...

You will start to: switch into wrong gear , feel curbs, track elevation changes, bumps, feel tyre wear and still have control over your situation.

It is a process we've all (except mouse/kbd drivers) gone thru.. finding driving in LFS is actually more fun with proper hardware - and to loose a race... ==> it's a lot more fun than in any other racing game. Because, you have had that true sim experience.

I can only say that G25 works very well, G27 works good from friends I know having nothing but cheers for LFS. The Fanatec, I do not know much about.

I guess the G25 is about 10-15 beers/pizzas(whatever) worth, so make a comitment to save some bucks over a limited time and you will have a great time on LFS in the future... (not including the opinion of your girlfriend)

Well, in one way (I guess in every way) you do extend LFS ===> greater value as you get a proper wheel setup. I think this is the big differece between feelings expressed here on the forums (again).

If you do not have the hardware -> complain about graphics, and the rest just enjoys every logon they can fit in... knowing it "feels" close to driving on tracks...

So my advice is to get another, more expensive wheel, . Yes! (G25/G27/Fanatec)...

Quote :you won't necessarily need a new wheel as long as the wheel you've got feels somewhat realistic.

LFS is a game that play along your personal spine... If you want to go mouse... fine,,,(click... cklick..... cklick)... if you go keyboard (its there, aaa.... dddd.... wwww....aaaa....) if you go joystick - sweet (up and down), and then you go a cheap wheel (no clutch, no H-shifter etc) ... but What happens when you go full out?

You can only discover yourself, really!

But it was not a disappointment, for me going from Thrustmaster to G25. All tracks are alive nowadays!

Well, no wheel for PC is "realistic" in many ways, true.

I can only speak for myself when I got my G25 for example. LFS turned into a completely new game (3 years ago?). Every track/car and race took me to a new level. The game delivered that full potential and I only regret that I didn't realize this earlier.

I suspect the reason for many gamers today complaining about slow updates of LFS (wanting more tracks/cars etc) do not realize they miss 90% of the game as it is simply by not having the right hardware wheel (I know - feel free to critisize this opinion! )

A stable (robust) wheel, some force feedback, H-shifter and a clutch brings new dimension to LFS. That is all I can say. I am one of those that do not long for graphical updates (directx that, bloom that, polygon times that etc) simply because the driving is awesome with a good wheel/clutch/gearbox. However, I do look forward to the physics update! (yes, I have iRacing - and not being very thrilled about it).

Just my opinion...

and again ... really good stuff you have focused on there. Just couldn't log on at the moment. Will be back and enjoy this server a.s.a.p. Server is: "& R2R GEN PRO"? Thanks for the info on your homepage!

My only advice is to join a "controlled" S1/S2 server. You'll find them. Admins are usually good at keeping the trash off the roads. Good luck!

Good news... I used to host private sessions with a few friends using G25/27/Fanatec. It was always fantastic. I cant keep a server 24/7 so hearing about R2R GEN PRO again made me keen on joining. Hope to see you guys there...

Quote :But my problem with LFS is that NO AI in this sim.

The offline is a very limited part of LFS. It is meant to be played online, with other human beings (with or without I(ntelligence)).

The offline mode is usually where you practice to learn the handling of the cars and track essentials. Actually, if you adapt to the way the current AI works, you can learn a lot about the racing lines, positioning, overtaking areas and breaking spots, as long as you accept the crude AI. It gives you a good situation awareness, although the AI may leave you frustrated at times. But, look at it as a tool to become a better driver prior to entering an online session. Use it wisely and it will help you beat "real" opponents

You have limited time? That should not stop you from racing on the online servers available. Many of them make use of short (and repetitive) races with few laps, where you can gain experience (and friends ) in notime!

Also, since I see you are a Demo Racer, you have no access to the full potential of LFS. So your statements look a little bit naive/overreactive to say the least. However, the Demo mode do allow you to experience some really good racing, no doubt about it.

Good luck with future races, and welcome to a great community!

It is good that you are a real driver and own your car. Like you say, no simulator can deliver real physics. LFS is trying to get as close as possible using the pc platform in combination with hardware utils (wheels/pedals/clutch/gears/outguages etc.) + internet of course.

It seems that you havn't really discovered LFS yet, so take your time to realize its value - just an advice to get you back on the right track

Perhaps invest (if not already) in a good wheel config (G25/G27/Fanatec 911 GT2 etc). Then LFS comes to life, I promise
I only speak of my own experience, with LFS and rFactor - and, yes, I do have my own car(s) too (since 1988).

Taste is different, so if you don't enjoy LFS, enjoy rFactor! (or both!)

Good luck on your project!
Does the math and physics level of your "mechanics" courses suffice for proper codewise integration of real life measurements and simulinks?
Maybe this will become your major bottleneck - but there's always the option to catch up - just as you said. Looking forward to see what you can accomplish.

Quote :No sarcasm or fake accounts guys. It occurred to me the other day how good LFS actually is, so I thought I'd make this thread. For me, LFS has provided so many hours of entertainment and even though I have been out of the "scene" for a while, I still really appreciate that. In a world of multi million dollar budget platform games, LFS still comes out shining. This is what I find so amazing, especially considering the size of the development team . LFS is truly something special and always will be.

@RE12,
well said!

My reflection...

Quote :By taking risk I meant taking their time to release something good.

Exactly - I think you missunderstud my messege. I mean, the devs need to take risks (as you mentioned) - even if it makes part of the community unhappy. I'm one of the happy ones. I appreciate them standing their ground and not fall for all the complaints. It show's they're strong and serious.

You hit the nail on the head with a big smack!
And we all see what "taking risks" do to people/clients . There can't be any progress unless you step out of the box and do just that! Take risks and get pounded. In the end - who will conquer the territory?

- Oh! Sorry, wasted some more pixels on this thread.... Now; back to driving.

Face the facts, all the moaners love the game more than all the "fanbois" combined. It just dont show the same way: moaners moan - fanbois drive

No offence meant whatsoever! We are all here to have fun and enjoy this beautiful piece of art!

PS: I apologize for intentionally wasting space in this thread. DS

Instead of battling on the forum about this and that, why don't you just see who is the fastest racer/cleanest racer/nicest racer?

That's what it's all about. Arrange a session where you can all have a go at each other! Im sure you will even start to like eachother and keep contact for a long time into the future.
