Live for Speed in Meadowhall Shopping Center, Sheffield - WIN a track day!
As part of the Ginetta's promotional activities, they have setup two motion simulators, both with triple monitor setups, in Sheffield's large out-of-town shopping center, Meadowhall.

They are running Live for Speed at South City Classic in Formula XR, in hotlap mode.

£5 per go and prizes on offer (for the the fastest lap time are):
  • Adult competition: win a Ginetta racing test day - best time as of 6th Aug is 0:43.63
  • Junior competition: win a Ginetta Junior Scholarship - best time as of 6th Aug is 0:45.32
  • All entrants are entered into a weekly raffle, drawn each Saturday
World record is 0:40.66 so room for improvement yet, though I doubt they are using a super fast setup.

See http://ginetta.com/news_article?id=1647 and https://twitter.com/xtreme_3d for more details.

I will return with my camera and post up some photos. And then again after some practice to make a credible attempt.

Very, very cool! I was thinking about how amazing something like this would be yesterday. Now if only someone would set up something similar in the US.

South City's set in the UK

Awesome to still see LFS being used in anger though
I saw these last week while I was away with my work in Sheffield, only saw the actual simulators not them working.. would have had a go if I knew it was LFS
Hi Ben, do you know who is running this? We can't find any emails discussing commercial use of Live for Speed.

Our permission system is on this page at lfs.net:
http://www.lfs.net/?page=commercial_use

When people charge for the use of LFS they should be making a contribution to us. I guess we'll use the "contact us" form on the Ginetta site, unless anyone has some better info.
From the Ginetta Site :

Mike Simpson, Head Of Sales for Ginetta Cars said; “Ginetta, Holland Leisure and Meadowhall saw this as a unique way of interacting with shoppers.

also his contact details > email Mike Simpson (mike.simpson @ ginetta . com) or call us on 08452 105 050 with any queries
Thanks.
Hah! What are the odds that you happen to find a huge booth using LFS without a license!
I'm going there over lunch to take photos. I'll ask the staff there what they know.
Oooo, I'm 20 miles away.

That's exactly the same thought that crossed my mind when I saw the 5 pound fee, having read the commercial use a few times just in case.
I just got back from the stand, chatted with the three girls staffing it and also spoke on the phone to their manager. I'm still a little unclear as to who is who, but there are two parties involved.

The company name associated with the display is "Xtreme 3D". Their manager, Paul, said that they are renting the simulators and software as a complete package (for the tidy sum of a grand a week, no less!) from another company, and have never had any dealings with Live for Speed (though they are aware that is the software they are using). The only mention of Live for Speed anywhere is on their twitter hashtag.

Scawen, I have two contact names and numbers I will message to you privately (see moderator forum).

Also, I will get photos off my camera this evening and post up here.
Best time to date for the adult competition is 0:43.63 (to win a Ginetta racing test day)
Best time to date for the junior competition is 0:45.32 (to win a Ginetta Junior Scholarship)

Edit: actually, some photos are latest times are available on twitter: https://twitter.com/xtreme_3d
So that has to be FOX, surely? Somehow I don't believe people would be getting 0.1 sec off from the WR with FBM...
Agreed.
So that means I could just take a trip there, be 2,5 seconds faster and get my free tickets? That sounds great, althought I guess you can't modify the setups

I did something like that once, and won an iPad haha

The trick is to modify the setup after you're done. Just add some weight or something. :tempted:

It appears the Ginetta Track Day thing is the raffle prize and the winner of the hotlap competition gets the BTCC tickets?

Hopefully nothing dishonest is going on with this anyway and scavier are getting their dues.
This is the problem with all those racing simulator business. Only few of them actually pays the license for software, tracks, cars..
Not very popular today, despite being there at lunch time, but they have been there a few weeks already. Not sure if they're making any profit (not that this would excuse them for license fees!).

Photos attached to first post.
Ah, 'twould they appear they switched the prizes round.

They look like decent rigs, but it's not an easy sell in a shopping center, I imagine.
Yeah. Those HPP pedals and the SimXperience wheel looks grand and pricey. We had something like that here in a plaza close to me with Motion sim and oculus rift, I think it was running RBR. Didn't have much time to check it around. 5 pounds aren't that much for it, but of course it doesn't mean you can work around licensing.
If you read our licensing thing, it's really cheap, and negotiable (for lower use cases).

It appears that, apart from not discussing this with us, they have not displayed any information like our logo and website address, as stated on our information page.

See, when it's like that and someone is charging £1000 per week for the whole package, but not giving us any credit at all, we obviously need to investigate.
