My guess is that your system is old, it's full of useless ancient crap. A format will solve all your problems, but yes, everything will be gone. Seems like it's not a hardware issue, but rather just an old PC getting tired.

As for hardware upgrades, ditching the whole system and starting fresh seems to be what everbody here says (rich bastards, not everyone can just do that) But I must say, grab another stick of RAM for a total of 1 gig and you will notice a major performance increase. Getting a relatively cheap stand-alone graphics card would be ideal aswell, if you want to increase gaming performance. I think a 6600GT, 7600GS, x1600, or even a x1950 Pro would do the trick.

Also a tip for older machines, managing your computers page file and cache really can help speed things up. If you only have one harddrive, try to limit how much page file is actually used (you can take more of a risk if you have boat-loads of RAM)

It's pretty simple, the XRT can NOT do a sub 13 quarter mile, at least not now. The BL straight isn't flat, remember that. With a proper set, launching properly with limited wheel spin, and throwing it through the gears as quick as possible I've managed 13.27 at the drag strip. Drag racing on the Blackwood track would allow tires being pre-heated too, right?

It just doesn't have the power to weight ratio to do it. Maybe if it had a juicy front mount itercooler, an inline-6 with a twin turbo setup...oh wait, that's a Supra But don't you think the XRT is a little under powered for what it is, and what it's supposed to be?

Why do I love LFS? I love Live For Speed because of it's realistic physics engine, attention to detail, and overall presentation as a formal racing simulation for the PC. It is a VERY well managed game, and will run on practically anything, which makes things easier for a lot of people, including me.

LFS is like a bat out of hell! Crank up the graphics, plug in that wheel, and jump into a packed server; And feel the devil inside you burst alive in a fire-ball of evil addiction.

EDIT: THAT was my 666th post!? Damn o.O Talk about weird...

Doubt it. Tons of people coming FROM the Need For Speed series, to LFS. Ever since Porsche 2000 the NFS games went downhill. Got into the flashy ricer cars and parts, shiny as hell graphics that raped your PC, so I said Eff that and remembered LFS that i sampled back in the days of S1.

If anything, Pro Street will bring more people over to LFS, because quite a few gamers are hoping it's a somewhat realistic game, that actually takes SOME skill to play. I doubt they will be satisfied as the NFS games have never been known for 'amazing' physics.

All in all, the Pro Street release will be good for the LFS community, not bad.

The XRT can't do a 12.5 1/4 mile though. I know when I'm at the drag strip, I can only do 13.3 on a proper setup. It must just be a point-to-point measurement.

I enjoy Victor for his slower pieces, where he shows off his creativity, and masterful flexability. His crazy slaping and popping at insane speeds is great talent, of course, but it just doesn't seem to have any emotion behind it.

I'm liking Jakg's idea of the 7600 GT and another gig of RAM. if that weren't posible I think a 7900 GS or a x1950 Pro would be decent too (if money allows) But definetly another gig would help when you got a few things going on.

Just thinking out loud here...but why is it always the DEMO users asking for features, or more tracks, or more cars...just generally MORE things for LFS...

Wow dude that must be weird...the most I've ever gone was four days, and it was NOT pretty. I had many side effects, and on the fourth day I could hardly speak proper english.

Quote from yoyoML :It's because
a) You're decelerating quickly enough with a locked rear wheel.
b) The front brake doesn't make the rear come back in. It takes load off the rear.
c) You can easily get a low-side if the front slides.
I think, without a surface slippery enough and strength great enough to break traction, locking the rear is probably the only method to get the rear out.

Yes, but I'm speaking of when you do it WITHOUT locking the rear wheel, just getting it sideways, past its lateral grip limit, then 'powering over' The front brake is useful to keep the speed down, and helps control how sharp the drift is.

Lose spokes? How do you manage that? Any decent rim can handle that sort of stuff. They arn't built weak, thats forsure.

Why not use the front brake? I use it all the time, it's a little hard to control your speed when you have a back tire slipped out sliding sideways. It does take a bit of skill, even if you do use the 'easy' method of just locking the rear tires the whole corner, sometimes it can be tricky to get the back tire to come back into like, especially on hills and sharp corners. Kudo's to this guy for having control of teh drifttzz.

Nah dude you can do it with normal tires. Just watch his legs as he starts and ends drifts, it's all about the muscle to pull the bike out. Looks like he had the tires locked through the slide, I find it easier to pedal through, you can get better angles

Woo! That brings me back to the day. I used to always take corners like that on my mountain bike, it was just soo much fun. It became part of my ride to school. You just have to keep weight off the back, and make sure theres nothing on the surface that will change (sand over pavement = bad) Get a feel for how far the bike will go sideways before falling over. And it helps if you have mild tread, or if your tires are cold.
