I'm telling you dude, a 6600GT will be fine for that system. If you get into the 7 series you'll definatly start putting some strain onto your PSU. The 6 series really were good cards, and the 6600GT has some decent overclocking room.
~Bryan~
It does sound like a RAM issue, if the problem continues, go into the BIOS and check the timings on the RAM. Running memtest will let you know how stable the RAM is, but try loosening up the timings, and run a 1:1 ratio.
~Bryan~
I'd imagine overheating resulting in thermal throttling. Not an expert but I know the 6800 isn't a cool chip to begin with. But it could easily be a software problem, check the task manager like BenjiMC said...

First time I read that it reminded me of the movie Taxi (Queen Latifah)
But as for my comment, I'll stick to it. Sure he's got more skill then any driver in that whole city, that doesn't mean other drivers know how to drive. A stupid lane change, or bad merging is all it would take to write off a 100mph taxi...
~Bryan~
Lmao that's pretty sweet, but a little unfair how he didn't get any punishment for his (assumed) speeding, and wreckless driving that he was doing...
~Bryan~
Uhmm...yeah that was a bit of a dumb move. I say just upgrade to Direct X 9c, I can't think of any bugs it has, or any real reason not to have it. It seems pretty standard for XP...
~Bryan~
Ahh that could explain it. I've been on some old 98's our school had, they just wouldn't boot LFS off the drive, kept giving read errors or process would just crash, I had to copy the contents to the harddrive.
~Bryan~
Hmmm I believe thats a problem with the computers themselves. A properly setup copy of LFS on a USB drive should work on any system running XP due to plug-n-play and Windows being able to read off it.
~Bryan~
Ahhh okay I had a feeling that was the main reason. Well I guess LFS should be listening to BMW, as they are playing a huge roll in getting LFS out to the world, cheers to BMW
~Bryan~
^Well they actually recommend to leave older cars running, and turn newer cars off. Can't remember where I heard it but I recall it from a study. Yes the automatic shut-off is a bit anoying, perhaps somebody should throw it into a bug thread, or it's already been brought up..
~Bryan~
Well loading cars and tracks take a little while (this was on USB 1.1, I'm sure 2.0 wouldn't be as bad) But once in-game everything is done via computer, so any lag is the computer itself. My school uses fairly shitty Dell's that are a few years out-dated and I can still run a decent game of LFS at the end of class with friends
PS, Zoomy, I'd find a bigger flash drive if I were you, it wouldn't be worth the effor to keep an LFS installation under that file-size.
~Bryan~
For a Canadian with an 'Against Hippies' avatar, you sure seem excited about saving the planet, and calling people 'dude' (Just give into our way of life, I'll provide the first peace-pipe session)
~Bryan~
Well they DO have 7950GT's in AGP, but I'm assuming you mean best for your system So I'd say a 6600GT, perhaps 7600GS. On the ATi side there is the x1300 and the x1600.
~Bryan~
Yupp I've done it. It won't hold a license unlock when you switch computers, but it holds graphic settings, controller settings, and all of that. That's what I love about LFS, it's completely self-sufficent.
For the record, I've been using Patch X on a 512MB RCA mp3 Player at school.
~Bryan~
Yes BBT, I'm loving that aswell. Although I jumped into the XRT, and stomped it to its fresh 7.5k redline, let it sit for about a minute and let out of it...no damage At least we're getting started on the issue...
~Bryan~
Jeez I haven't even touched the demo servers, I've just been messing about offline. Been meaning to zip out to an S2 server and see how things are going.
PS, whats with the setups? Mine don't show up in-game...
~Bryan~
Yes I too got caught by the double press to get the car started again, can they actually be bump started? I never bothered to check. I sure like the clutch heat too. Seem's to be a LOT easier to cook them on the open wheelers, and GTR's.
~Bryan~
Really? I've been driving the XRT around, and I'm feeling MORE boost lag. IIRC, before I could be rolling and punch it from third I could get full boost at about 4,500k but now it's not till near redline. Speaking of which, most of the cars seem to be rev limited right AT the top of the powerband, seems like theres no fall-off revs.
~Bryan~
Yes I was afraid somebody was going to say that. I just feel that the devs work SOO hard on this game, and give so much of it to the public for free. Imagine putting ALL that time, and ALL that effort into something like LFS S2, and giving such a big portion of it away for nothing. I was hoping they would cut back the demo before S2 final, but I guess the devs have a differet point of view.
~Bryan~
Wow, I'm really disappointed about the FBM going into the demo. Why should demo users get MORE content? (Yes, more, any idiot can keep a version of X to play with the XRT) I'm a little shocked, but hey, I guess it will bring more people into S2.
