Why just not just take a Third Gen Supra? They have a 3-litre inline 6 that puts out about the same amount of power. They are a little heavier then the XRT, and push about 7psi stock, but BPU will do 12-14. Most important of all they look REALLY simaliar to the XRT, check them out (specificly the '91-'92 models)

TBH I'd go for a cheaper CPU (something from the e4400, or the e6300) and throw a light overclock on it (they will get a nice jump with stock cooling on stock voltage) then throw on a 7900 GS or perhaps an 8600 GTS from Nvidia. The 8600 isn't much of a DX10 performer, but it's hard to judge yet when we don't have proper DX10 testing. Both cards will handle any dx9 game at a high resolution (1680x1050 anyone?) with some AA and AF.
PS, jakg, I'm getting kind of sick hearing about you boast about your damn quad. Sure, you have a nice processer with a decent overclock. Alot of us don't. So feel free to stop rubbing that in when it comes to Intel CPU's, and yes, I am aware that you worked for the money to pay for it, and it wasn't just a present from mommy and daddy...

I'm on the same boat. All my shit is stuck in the past (AGP 4x board, DDR ram, socket 478) And I really am going for a whole new rig soon, but I was looking into the 6600 GT's. They arn't too power hungry which is good for my outdated 300watt PSU, and they are compatable with AGP 8x/4x/2x. They are pretty cheap around here not sure over on your end though. The card can handle alot of stuff (considering how old it is) It would be a great thing to add to your setup and use as 'the other computer' But if you want to play anything new, at damanding settings, you WILL need a PCI-E board and everything that goes with it.

Does it move at all? Because there is an option in-game to cap fps at whatever you life (some use it over v-sync) You could check that to see if it's at 10, but if it jumps around 10 then it could be just a hardware/software problem.

Congrats on quitting, I too got into it for a short while, clued in one day as to what I was doing with myself, the only time I'll smoke tobacco now is with the herb, usually special smoking blend, or pipe tobacco. I make sure the tobacco I smoke is somewhat cleaner burning, and more natural then the crap you get in cigarettes. Chew gum, that's my only tip, gum is cheaper, it keeps your mouth busy, and leaves you with nice breath, not icky smoke breath.
Quote from hrtburnout :Congrats. Now keep it up! . It's hard to get rid of habits you started at an early age.

I was surprised you actually smoked at the age of 15!

You'd be surprised how young people are when they try smoking these days. It's pretty sad if you look at in on the broad spectrum. But oh well, at least it's safer then drinking (short term of course)

Uh...yeah v-sync 'limits' the framerate to the monitors refresh rate. It's not some magic feature that improves your fps. If your getting 10fps turn your settings down...

I'm 15 and I do both, been doing both since I was 13-14. I've gotten pretty quick, I can stay top 4 throughout races if my FPS situation works out good. Age is really a factor when it comes to online games like LFS, it's all about maturity level.

^No, the actual process of getting high doesn't take too long, think of it as getting a snack from the kitchen, it's that quick, its BEING high that we do when we're bored. For example, if theres nothing to do, we devote ourselves to being high, actually getting high never takes me more then a half hour, I've been trippin' since before I got on my bus to come home from school, three hours ago...
BTW, just started Welcome To The Machine!

Right now I just threw on my Wish You Were Here LP, it's great to listen to while high, I'm about 1/3 the way through Crazy Diamond Part 1, just before the transition.

Why are you calling it a hack? It's just a texture, same as any road, or tyre texture. IMO it just seems silly to call it a hack, it's disrespectful to the true art of (I only do it for fun at school, as part of my com. tech course)

Does sound like a HD issue, I notice you have two Maxtors. Why not just boot from the other harddrive to see if the errors continue?

Damn, this may be off topic, but Harjun, either fix the f*cking spelling of his name, or just take it out of your sig, it's disrespectful! If you want to honor a great man like Colin, at least learn to spell his goddamn name right!

I wish I had a computer that could do those high-resolution, hardcore AA'd shots. They look really nice, show off the sim well.

Well 50 degrees on idle is pretty damn hot...my Celeron idles at 35, and it's an old, slow, and hot chip. Temperatures can sometimes double under load, and I'm guessing he just has the basic Intel HSF. It would be worth going through the drivers and updating, or repairing them. If you could get your hand on a second hard drive that would be sweet, that way you could figure out if it is a corrupt install and/or spyware/virus'.

50 degrees? Where'd you get that figure? At the desktop? Or during games? Because if it's idling at 50, load temps are probably hitting near 3 digits.

Just FYI, most cards will perform the same even though they come from different companys, they just take the PCB, throw their own heatsink on it, and sell it. There are certain exceptions, (iirc) a few brands hand select good overclocking cards and mount them with better heatsinks, or send out cards with higher clock speeds. Usually if a card from a different company cost more, it has to do with whats in the bundle.

Check V-sync, turn it off, or leave it on. 60fps is nothing to worry about, that extra 40 won't do much anyways.

Yeah everything pretty much only fits together one way. As long as you double check that everything nessesary is connected you can't really do much harm. PSU's are designed to be a simple installation.

Take a look on the side of the PSU, there should be a sticker of sorts giving you specific information about the amperage. As for convincing your dad it's the PSU, just calculate the load your computer puts out, show him what your PSU CAN put out, theres no arguing with mathematics.

^I'm saying your CPU could be overheating, causing the BSOD's and restarts. Just check the tempuratures to make sure they arn't too high. Make sure the heatsink is attatched properly, and the fan in spinning freely.
