Damn rich people...I wish I had the cash to toss around on a 1337 PC.

How much that set you back roughly? That seems like a pretty smart buildup. Any overclocks on it yet? If you have the G0 stepping for that quad, you could pump out SERIOUS overclocking numbers, assuming you bought a proper heatsink for it and didn't cheap out with the Intel HSF.

Yeah dude, you could stick with socket 478, get a better CPU and overclock it. Also add another 512stick of RAM. That would give you noticeable improvements in everything, but you will still have a highly outdated system, so basically if you have the cash to get a new PC, go for it. Theres nothing there that is essential to good performance(socket 775, PCI-E, DDR2)

8600 GT(S), perhaps 7900GS, or even the x1950 on the dark side. But like Jakg said, make sure the PSU you have is up to the challenge (should be, as long as the PSU didn't come in some cheap, old case/psu combos) You can look on the side of the power supply and it will give you the tech specs of it. As long as you have 12v rail(s) that push out at least 28amps.

I agree with your last note about the demo being too beefy. It would be hard to find any other demo that has the features LFS offers for free (even the crappy arcade sims don't get this much demo content) Although I am working on getting the cash together to buy LFS, I still see lots of people that just play the demo, and are perfectly happy with whats there, with no thoughts of ever getting S2. Really tragic, because the licensing system is very professional, and has many many features. Not to mention the racing is a lot cleaner and faster.

+1 for a Colin McRae tribute. I've got loads of pictures of him and his subby racking up some air-miles. What an amazing driver.

Just throw it on a USB stick. Thats what I did to use LFS at school. It doesn't get picked up by any security program (even though they are a complete joke, and killing the process takes two seconds) It ran pretty good on our school's Dells (P4, 512DDR2, intergrated graphics)

Damn, stuff is REAL cheap over there. Throwing together the same PC Jakg posted gets me into the thousands.

I just threw on my Wish You Were Here album by Pink Floyd. I listen to it a lot, but it always ends up with different meanings depending on my mood. I decided to listen to this while I try smoking herbal tea for the first time. It is apparant this stuff expands emotions and feelings, so what better music to listen to then Floyd?

I'm bored with LFS, but then again I'm only a demo user. Hopefully I'll have enough cash to buy S2 soon, then that will tie me over for a few months, but I'll probably start itchin' for content like the rest of you fools. Allas, only time can tell.

Dude, any DDR RAM will work, it just will run at a speed up to 400mhz. TBH if you have 1gig thats pretty much all you'll need, another gig won't do much in your case. For instance, I always have limited processes running, I keep my multi-tasking to a minimum, and never use this computer for anything hardcore (it's simply too outdated to do anything special) I'm going to add a 512 stick to my board for a total of 768MB. Thats under a gig, and I bet my computer will never 'starve' for RAM. It's a big misconception that people think that more RAM is always better, your system only uses so much. 1gig is enough for an XP system like that, not really running alot at once (I'm asuming, because those processers don't like to be crammed with tasks) Ask for DDR ram, sized 1gigabyte. If by chance the RAM is not picked up by the system just go into the BIOS and manually setup it's speed (If you don't know how to, any computer store will be happy to do it for you)

Why not just download LFS onto an MP3 player or a memory stick. Then boot LFS off it and unlock it if you need to.

Just hit Hey Oh - RHCP. My Stadium Arcadium album just hit the stereo, so that will last a while, then I'll probably put on Coda (Led Zeppelin) and fall asleep to it.

A 6600 GT is all thats needed for LFS to run a basic 1280x1024 screen res with eye candy turned up. The only time the fps might dip down is with some AI grids (more then 4-5 in view). Online I don't think there will be too many problems, your fps will dip because of the processer, but as long as you don't run full grids of AI alot you should be fine.

Actually the 6600 GT probably wont need a new PSU. Check the sticker on the side of your PSU, if its 300watts with 15amps on a 12v rail you will be fine (asuming PSU is still healthy, and the case isn't crammed full of shit)

IE using 100% isn't normal. I have a REALLY shitty Intel Celeron running 2.6ghz (118mhz fsb) With IE, Firefox, msn, WMP, and a few downloads going my CPU usage hangs around the 20-30% mark. Then again, I have no more then 24~ processes going at the same time.

Look up the "Drift Bible" on youtube or google video. It really helped me learn the basics of drifting, it's quite long though, so dialup=pain in the ass.

Drifting is actually quite the art when done right. It's just all the immature n00bs that crash up servers and attempt to drift and just spin out that give it a bad wrap. Sure, I don't focus my time on perfecting drifting, but I'll rip a few laps around BLR kickin it sidewayz. I really hate how people are commin' down on drifters just because the idiot pre-teens can't control themselves and jump online. Moral of story, if you'r gonna drift, do it RIGHT.

You can go into the BIOS and turn down the amount of RAM saved for the onboard graphics. I actually have the same SiS chipset in my motherboard. Go for a 6600 GT like i said earlier. But if you want anything to last you for modern gaming you will need to upgrade your entire platform, AGP 4x and DDR just can't pump out the power needed for intense gaming.

I bet you my wake n' bake joint that it's just some process eating up all your CPU usage, or a similar problem. Take a look in the process tab of task manager, anything using unusually large amounts of memory or CPU power?

Dude, I always save my msn conversations. It's good to be able to look back on years later. Remember old times with friends, prove people wrong, stuff like that If theres nothing in your Chat Log's folder or Recieved Files then your SOL. At least you know to turn the option on in the future.

A pentium E or even a PD would work fine, matched with a decent graphic card (7600 GT?) It wont achieve triple digit fps like you want, but it's really pointless because I bet the monitor you will be buying wont refresh quicker then 60 or 75hz anyways.

You can pretty much get wall mounts for any LCD monitor these days iirc. If not, it's not exactly hard to fabricate something that works. But like ajp71 said, why get a really nice card, but skimp on the monitor, it's like the "a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link" thing.
