I'm old skool, real old skool, yeah yeah. Come back, I have a potato for you.

But I haven't played LFS for years. I visit once in a while just to check that the new physics hasn't been released yet.

I used to be in a team called ATC or something. I was never a proper member, more of a mascot what with my elite mouse driving and ability to crash into 12 cars in a 6 car race. I hope you're still going ATC!

Anyway, I'm over LFS. New physics or not, there's nothing in this game for me, but I'm really glad the community is still around as that was one of the main reasons I got into LFS in the first place. Plenty of nice people, willing to help, having a laugh and that's the kind of thing that money can't buy.

Respect to all past, current and future LFS racers

Quote from Crashgate3 :The general agreement is that the devs don't let out 'snippets' because they start rumours which just snowball into 'they are definitely doing <insert feature which was never actually discussed>' and people end up bitching about it when it doesn't appear.

What's that you say? We're getting night-time racing in the rain using motorbikes?? Wohoo!

X on LSD is really cool because I sat on the grid staring at the lights on my dashboard for three hours... by then the acid had warn off and in actual fact i had been looking at a shoe really really closely.

Quote from kurent :Both drivers are me, so the racing line is similar hehe. Both laps were not just a run thru but hotlap attempts. But it doesn't really need to be to roughly show you how the track has been changed.

I stand totally corrected! I installed X and removed the background image on the track selector and took a picture of blackwood, and then did the same with Y. And here's what it shows.. a big difference!

Here are some screenies of how it used to look... so definite change!

Quote from kurent :I used a replay analyzer, opened up a patch Y .raf file and then added a patch X .raf file. I think this is accurate since both .raf and .cmx use the same "world" with their own coordinates and the starting line position hasn't changed so they overlap neatly.

Does this assume that both drivers took exactly the same line around each course?

I don't think it has. I think that image is wrong.

Quote from kurent :I preffered the old blackwood myself. I especially dislike the turn after the long straight when one car can be forced onto the grass before the 2nd chicane.

I made this comparison (previous attachement doesn't work)

I don't know why, but I so don't believe that image. It doesn't feel to me like things have changed so much.. how was this image generated?

If there is going to be a SC.7 then i think this might be quite interesting..
Actually that whole roundabout would be a good oval for the UF1

Thanks you LFS devs. You continue to make me smile every time I read a change log and try the latest patch. I had my £24's worth of entertainment from LFS many patches ago, so all this additional awesomeness I wasn't expecting is certainly welcome. Please keep your vision pure, and for the love of cheese, step away from your PCs for some time off

Holey Shamoley - that was great to watch! I was expecting another drifing video or pile-up video, but a whole race like that - cool beans I watched it all and it felt like it was 10 minutes long, but it was really 30, which is always a good sign. Kudos to all involved!

You're NOT supposed to use the clutch AT ALL in the FBM, apart from the race start.

So how should one change gear in the FBM?

Honestly, someone should make a post that lists all the cars and how one should change gears, because I'm well confused now.

Quote from danowat :What I wanna know is what on earth res are people running that makes the speedo unreadable?, it's prefectly readable all the way down to 640x480..............

The ONLY time you need a speedo in racing, it too pit, at all other times you shouldnt even look at it.

Well, it's also going to be dependent on your FOV and also the setting that controls how far back your head is from the wheel, right?

Quote from Shotglass :have you ever actually watched an endurance race ? a large part of the concept is to nurse the car home

Quote from Vykos69 :You saw latest Top Gear? Go watch it again, then you might get the point...

"To finish first, you first have to finish." Dont destroy your engine, or do Shift-P then in the race, which will give you in a proper endurance league some good penalty (by far less than an engine exchange would take IRL).

Woah there! I wasn't cussing this new feature at all. My point (which I obviously didn't make very well) was that StableX was complaining that the clutch didn't get fixed in the pits, and I was pointing out that now neither does the engine.

I've found it quite easy to keep my clutch in good condition so far, but more frequently I've screwed up my downshifting, gone down too many gears, and frazzled my engine; which, for me anyway, is more likely to impact on an endurance race than the clutch overheating. So really StableX should be complaining about this new feature too, not just the clutch thing!

Quote from StableX :
Clutch Damage
Last but not least, I love the clutch damage but feel for endurance racing this element causes too many issues and restricts certain cars from these events. I think the ability to repair the clutch or at least to make it driveable to 'orange' after a pits visit should be made available OR clutch damage should be a serverside variable that can be turned on or off. Having this as a serverside option gives valuable feedback on what the community like and dislike and prefer for your fantastic game.

What about "Engines are no longer repaired in pit stops" -- that's got to be another thing that could hurt endurance racing?

Quote from Scawen :Old setups work, you do need to rename them and move them from the "settings" folder to the new "setups" folder.

Colours and setups now have their own folders.

The three letter name will help with downloading systems which had problems with car names containing a space.

Is there a list of what we should use in place of the old way? Couldn't this be automated to save all us end-users some legwork?
