Using RayOks okSocket I started experimenting with InSim for the first time and actually managed to do stuff, very easy to use
Problem is I can't remember all that much about Visual Basic since I finished Higher Computing at school 2 years ago, so this may sound like a very basic question and hopefully is
Problem I've got is I want to keep tabs on drivers laps. Now how I was planning on doing it is basically recording every PlayerLap so everytime they crossed the line I'd add a lap to their total. My problem is I don't quite know the best way to do this. I can manage it just fine tracking one user but don't really know what to do with more than that as I need to store it somehow.
I was thinking a database might be the best solution but haven't done database stuff in visual basic before. Would it be feasible to write/read to a .txt file on the fly? Wasn't sure how easy it would be to use the drivers name to find out the amount of laps they'd done ... Doesn't really have to be anything fancy, as long as it works
I'm sorry but do you really excpect people to help you after your attitude and language towards the creator of the script VorTeX3k... VorTeX3k owes you nothing, he created something for the community, it's up to you how you use it. I'm sure if the money was right he'd integrate it into your forum software
I passed my theory first time with 35/35 and 64/75 in the clicky game.
I also passed my driving test first time, it's pretty piss easy as long as you don't lose your cool like some of my friends did. Although I got a few minors for things like driving too quickly in a built up area for the road conditions, I'm sorry but is 20mph not slow enough for hailstones? (Was a 20mph zone). Then in the same conditions on the dual carriageway I got more minors for driving `too` slowly, was doing 60mph. Crazy!
Tbh I think the test is a waste of time in it's current state. At no point are you ever taught how to control a car, more the basics on how to work it. I seriously believe a bit of time on a track even in karts should be brought in. I bet it would put many people in there place when it comes to thinking how good a driver they actually are. People are led to believe they are good drivers when they pass there test and during there lessons but in actual fact most road users probably haven't got the slightest clue about what to do in the heat of the moment.
Was like the other day there the traffic was qued a lot further back than usual on a blind corner and my Dad in the van braked but with the ice just locked up. So he pumped the brake pedal to get him around the corner while cars were on the other side of the road and then released it and went down the side of the cars (wrong side of the road). Now the person at the back of the queue had the stupidest reaction I've ever seen and could have caused an accident. He jammed his car into reverse and shot off backwards. Had someone else come around the corner like my Dad did (only doing 45mph in a 60) he'd have hit him. The guy was lucky that my Dad isn't the sort to panic and knows what he is doing, had it been probably 85%(?) of road users, they'd have probably gone straight into the back of him.
Everytime I hear the police comment of "What will it take to stop these young drivers" "What will we have to do" etc... The answer is teach people how to control there car not how to work it. Something which could easily be introduced into the test or even as a secondary course which could reduce your insurance. That pass plus thing is an absolute joke (i've not done it but a few of my friends have) and it teaches you nothing, just take the instructor on a 6 hour drive it would seem. Why not replace that scheme with 45mins at a kart track with someone who knows what they are talking about and then make people realise. For the money pass plus costs I'm sure you could do something cheaper at a track. Especially when it could be done in groups.
AI should never be involved in driving your car in LFS, NEVER!
Thats reserved for arcade games. Chatting while driving is not neccessary, if you want to do this buy a microphone, plug it in, and talk away over TeamSpeak or similar.
The problem is you make one very fatal mistake in judging graphics, you purely base it on fancy shadders. Last time I saw NFS the cars moved like a solid box, with scaffolding as suspension and steel as tyres.
To me graphics isn't all about bling bling fancy shadders etc it's about making the car on screen look as if it's on track, as if the tyres are working hard, as if the suspension is working... etc. At the end of the day this is a racing simulator, simulating cars which do actually move around so why shouldn't this be simulated?
In my eyes LFS has the best graphics and I'm not a blinded `fanboy`. I'd actually say nK Pro had the best graphics but until the bugs are fixed then the graphics to performance goes to LFS. It still looks good and plays well even on old systems. I'm not saying there isn't room for improvements but overall I class LFS as one of the best graphically appearing sims.
It's like when you watch a CGI film, one might have a nicer appearence to it but the one with the better animation that makes you `feel` the film will have more impact.
The sort of karts LFS would hopefully simulate wouldn't be raced indoors normally.
I don't think it would be that hard at all to get some real life kart tracks into LFS. My local club could be done with all the advertising it could get.
tbh consoles have lost their touch with me... Only a few years ago thats all I'd play, barely touch a computer for gaming. My brother has an Xbox360 and nothing interests me about it.
I'm a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series so if I was ever to have spare money kicking about then I'd probably have a PS3 but that is unlikely.
I think consoles are great fun for a group of you, especially nintendos with the fun games like Mario Tennis etc. Never got tired of the N64 in the common room last year at school, 4 player Smash Bros, Mario Tennis etc
The thing people seem to forget about graphics is the fact that you can make a picture look pretty but can you make it look believeable? LFS simulates the cars movements very well graphically so screenshots look believeable along with nice natural appearing colours.
A 3D model that just goes along a track and stays plain square to the track around a corner at racing speeds doesn't look believeable in motion or screenshots, it doesn't have the same kick about it. No matter how `good` it looks it will still look wrong. It's like CGI films, there is a reason animators spend a good bit of time on scenes .
If I'm getting you your talking about buying a car seat rather than a proper race seat so kind of beats the point as all the cars in LFS would be fitted with a proper racing seat of some standard...
@Hyperactive
Your seat isn't exaclty a racing seat like I was comparing prices to...
My main point is it was a rather strange outburst from tomylee. MDF costs peanuts (we've got lots of the stuff for free!) compared to a racing seat. It's like me saying to him that if he has a wheel then he should have a cockpit...
I have no idea the cheapest sort of racing seat you could get is but all I'm saying from the prices I've seen for proper ones they can be £200+ Some of the tillet seats are £400+.
Listen to the end of that and you'll get the idea of the annoying James Allen.
He doesn't sound excited at all just sounds like shouting :s He does it at the end of all the GPs, watched a highlights clip of one year and everytime it ended you'd have thought it was a recording, him screaming "Alonso ..... Wins..." "Schumacher.... Wins...."etc
I always feel James is trying to be Murray at times but it just doesn't work. Not to mention the constant times he talks right over team radio and then says "Oh didn't quite catch that", well dohh you talked right over it.
When I got my Momo replaced they didn't want anything more than the serial code off the current one... Still got that other wheel and pedals kicking around. Not to mention the warranty had expired a good year and a half ago when I asked for a replacement
Well considering he made this out of some MDF at probably little cost... A race seat would cost probably £200+ from some of the prices I've seen.
and thats a reason because... if your going to have a public vote on something which is supposed to be the communitys choice why not include him or one of the other two developers?
Alonso won the F1 title in 05 but they didn't exclude him from the championship in 06...
Remember race prepared cars usually have a very short brake pedal so you could call it realistic if your not able to press it all the way down without jumping out your seat
Having only skimmed through some of the posts heres a few tips that I've come up with from witnessing people make these mistakes.
1) The first lap heading into T1 be aggressive and hold the inside line. If your about half way down the inside of someone it's always an idea to go deeper into the corner rather than fall back this way that person has no option but to let you through = little to no contact. Obviously if it's very crowded just try hold the inside line and you should be okay. I very rarely would opt for the outside unless there was a big hold up on the inside.
2) If you are unsure heading down into T1 and are going to brake early do it gently and not sharply when braking initially. This way you'll give following drivers enough notice to take some form of action
3) Just keep a good eye of whats going on around you. Any overtaking moves you go to pull off make sure they know you are there thats the best way to avoid them turning in. It's better to go deeper into a corner so that they see you than diddle about on the apex just out of sight.
Don't get worried about anything. As long as you are clean and try your best to have good races you'll not getter bother from 95% of the racers on LFS. A quick "Sorry" will usually satisfy most people if you make a mistake and wipe someone else out
Gearbox karts and superkarts are the same size as a Snr kart to my knowledge
Gearbox karts and superkarts would be okay on the current crop of tracks. 250 Superkart would be great fun I doubt they'll be implemented for a while since I don't think LFS can simulate kart dynamics.
There is nothing wrong with wireless. I run wireless.
It can only be an ISP issue with blocking ports. Wireless doesn't just start blocking ports at certain hours during the day...
Wireless or wired if your connecting to the router it's fine. If you can play LFS during certain hours of the day it's fine. During the hours you can't play it this will be Tiscalis `fair usage policy` coming into affect.
As has been said it seems like your ISP is blocking ports and considering there are two of you on the same ISP with the same problem... This isn't an LFS problem but a feature of your ISP
You're not racing, you are being a twat is what I'd call you people . Thinking your superior to all other motorists and that computer games give you an advantage highlights this. It's your sort who have people screaming out at banning computer games because you use it as an excuse.
Your the very person I make life difficult for in traffic when they think they can be smart and jump about lanes cutting others off and cheekily slotting into a space that is not big enough to be safe. I'll make sure that your type don't get in front of me and I'll damn well make sure to block the lane if its chock a block of traffic and some arse is illegally coming down the bus lane to cut in front of a queue of 20+ cars.
I really can't stand people like you and everytime I see them on the roads overtaking 5cars at a time up a blind hill I think in the back of my mind when he has a accident I hope he doesn't take someone with him.
If someone passes me they pass me. I get slightly annoyed when they throw the anchors out at every little bend they reach in there fancy Audi while my little old Clio is more than capable of going quicker. It doesn't get to me as what is there to win? Nothing but there's a hell of a lot to lose if you cause an accident.
I save my racing for the track. I'm not saying I don't drive quicker around corners than the majority of motorists but I never go to the limit that my car can handle (I reckon I could probably go 15-20mph quicker around most bends). You have no idea what's around the bend or if the road is covered in mud. The limit of grip is never consistent with the ever changing road surfaces, mud/damp etc. I'll usually only hover about 5mph over the speed limit and I certainly take it easy around other cars. You may well think you don't cause accidents but all it takes is one idiotic (or do you call them smart?) move to make someone panic.
I don't take my license for granted and nor can I afford the insurance if anything was to happen. I love driving and it's something that plays a big part in my life for enjoyment but as Tristan has said there are plenty of ways to fulfil my enjoyment in driving other than being a complete twat. If I have any passenger in the car then I'll not even go over the speed limit as I couldn't live with being responsible for hurting or killing a friend. Roundabouts are quite good for playing about with understeer but again I don't be stupid. A few weeks ago some guy in a BMW followed me into a roundabout (I went through the amber light, was red by the time he reached it) and when I looked in my mirror I saw him closing in awfuly quick for such a sharp 90 degree turn so I sped up. Guess what I saw in my rear view mirror? A BMW totally sideways and going into the straight ahead exit, not to mention blocking rush hour traffic while he sheepishly got going again.
The bottom line is if you were as half as good as you claim to be you'd be on a race track proving yourself or probably getting your arse kicked Generally I've never met one single person of your type who have turned up for the end of day `£10 for 10 laps" after the racing who actually was any cope. You act all cocky about how great you think your driving is and when it comes to trying to find the limit properly your either A) Spinning as you can't get heat into the tyres B) going dead slow and even using both pedals at the same time as your scared
"Licenses suspended again"
That would surely prove your elite driving skills aren't as great as you'd like us to believe?
I wander why the people who actually race don't have a need to show off their `elite skills` like you?
Yes as far as I'm aware that is a purpose built course although I couldn't tell you whether it was ever anything before.
edit// Actually it's not. Asked my Dad today when he got back and this is a public road which leads to an estate.
It's as wide as a Fiesta was how they described the track when my Dad had the rear too stiffly sprung and lost it over a bump, jamming it solid between two barriers. He had the wings made of glass fibre so they had a a bit of a job moving it I think he did that towards the end of the run.
