Quote from Zachary Zoomy :$144 for S3?!!?!?!

That's how much Tristan says he would pay for S3, not how much it's actually going to cost. Most likely it will just be another £12.

I'd easily have paid more for LFS, I've only bought two other racing games since and LFS is the only one that keeps me coming back.

Quote from danowat :*snip*

Yup, I know bikes are even worse. My Dad used to ride bikes, the last one being a Honda Hornet CBR600, if I remember correctly. He ended up selling it to start racing again but has never gotten another bike again to use on the roads because of the many near misses.

I'd like to own a bike at some point but I just wouldn't risk it living where I am at the moment. Not only do you get people who aren't paying a blind bit of notice there are also the ones who like to fill their fuel tanks till they overflow. God knows why when it spills out onto the roads as they corner and makes for some interesting cornering.

One of the roads I have to take in the morning has a bus lane which is in operation during the time so people shouldn't be using it. Most road users abide it but a select few feel too elite... If I see anyone coming down them thats not a buss or taxi, I pull out and stop. If I'm running early for college I let more cars in front of us than there would have been. Oh is it fun to watch their gestures in the rear view mirror.

Serves them right for trying to cut in front of like 20 cars. Wish they'd put one of them cameras there to stop them driving in bus lanes when they shouldn't be. Although saying that some people still drive down those bus lanes till they reach the camera, and more often than not the person in the right lane lets them in! Sometimes during traffic light changes you wont actually move because this person is letting them all in. Kind of defeats the purpose of queing :s.

Haha, was reading that thinking this sounds familar

Quote from Batterypark :Why did you gesture that it was an emergency, when it clearly wasn't one? You really shouldn't drive at all if you can't put aside your emotions when you're behind the wheel.

Don't think the thread title is offensive but if it's classed as one, sorry...

I'll set the scene, I'm driving home from college today, people are just starting to knock off work so the roads are fairly busy. On one of the busy routes there is road works and it's down to one lane of traffic both directions. Technically it's not even a dual carriage way, it's a really wide road with no road markings so there should really be no cars overtaking as that's the wrong side of the road. Especially when cars are parked at the other side of the road it often forces people in the other direction to take avoiding action. There are signs up making you well aware and one big long queue of cars gives you a fair idea something's up. Not to mention the big blue arrow sign pointing to the lane to be in.

So anyway, I'm near the entry of the single lane when I see someone in their Audi A6 coming down, passing probably 30 cars and unlucky for him I'm not into the single lane part yet.

The guy behind me swerves out to make the guy well aware he isn't letting him in and I do the same, but he cheekily passes us. He is now in a position that he is in the way of the traffic coming the other direction. He sticks the front left of his Audi in the gap between me and the car in front. I just looked across and made him well aware I wasn't going to let him in. He continues to edge forward trying to obviously stop me from being able to go forwards without letting him in. I continued to edge slowly forward as the traffic began moving again and so did he, although as I knew he would chicken out. Obviously scared I scratch his paint. Unfortunately the driver following behind who initially tried to stop him wasn't paying attention and moved too late to stop him getting in :/.

Once we are out of this I joined the left lane and he decided to drive along side me slowing the right lane of traffic for a good 20/30 seconds to give all sorts of gestures. Tbh he looked like a right geek (no offence anyone, best way to describe him) that would probably be scared of getting into a brawl (not that I want to) with someone and the gesturing really didn't suit him, I couldn't help but laugh and didn't bother giving him the attention. He decided to continue driving alongside me for a good 20 seconds after this.

What I hate is how he feels he is better than all us who are waiting in the queue. Why he thinks he can skip a 10-15min wait in traffic. If everyone did it, he'd be no better off. What I can't understand, after looking in my mirrors and seeing more do it is why do people let these people cut in. If they didn't these people would never do it but too many people up here anyway don't mind letting you jump the queue.

Now to my next arse. Country road but wide enough for two cars to drive side by side easily and easily capable of 60mph (I'd reckon the Clio could probably do 80 easy along this road, and it handles like jelly) all the way in my 1.2 Clio. I come up behind some guy in a BMW Z4 doing 40mph, unfortunately he is going the same direction I'm going when we re join a main-ish road. It's a straight road and no cars are coming the other direction. So I indicate and pull out to pass, just as I'm getting past him he puts his foot down and goes from 40mph to matching my speed. He put me in a very dodgy situation heading to a junction on the wrong side of the road, had he not sped up I'd have passed him ages ago before reaching here. He forced me to brake real hard and luckily the guy following me realised and made space.

All the way home I had to follow this guy at 50mph in straight lines and 40mph on slight curves in the road because everytime I went to pass him he put his foot down. Everytime I dropped back coming to a corner to get a good run (only a small 1.2!) he'd slow down with me.

Again I can't understand this logic, what's the point in doing that? Is he embarrassed to watch lil old Clio worth a fraction of his BMW drive past? Surely he should be more embarrassed having me following with a bunch of other pissed off drivers trying to pass.

Since I've been going into and out college at early and late times more this block I've noticed this happening to me more and more, nearly every Mon-Wed. One of these days they are going to get me so pissed off I'm going to make sure they hit my car and I get a nice big insurance claim. Especially the arses who tailgate because I've not let them barge in the queue. I often catch them out using the handbrake to brake in slow moving traffic, often stops them tailgating with there poor judgement.

Rant over , so what's everyone else's experiences? I doubt I'm the only one who comes across this sort of person.

Quote from Foropsico :This is a great contradiction. Firts you say that demo user just like to act like they are being treated differently, then you say you cant acept demo users posts asking for this and that... So, they are treated differently or not?

Read the post carefully . I also said if a S2 user posts asking for something like `weather`, `more damage`, `NOS` they will get the same reaction as a demo user posting the same things.

Quote :Some one just tell me. How a demo user asking for more content in demo are harming you at the point you consider this bad maners? You could just said, i am not agree with ading more content because reduce the S2 sales. ¿But why this type of cuestion are interpreted like bad maners?
And why you are so worry about the devs? in what way this afect you?

How did you come to that conclusion? Since when did something have to harm someone to be bad manners? If someone gives me something for free I don't go ask them for more. I recently got given a MP3 player for helping my Dad's friend out, I respected the kindness of him to give me something. I didn't go and say can I get better headphones, or more music on it... That is what I'd class as bad manners and is the same with LFS. Demo users should be grateful for what they receive, a demo version that is free with unlimited multiplayer and it never ages. No other racing game is this generous and you'd be pushed to find any game that offers this. You won't find that sort of genorsity from a big publisher that's for sure. Another point is that a demo user may well be using LFS for free but the developers are covering the costs of them, all be it very small but still I'd imagine it adds up to something.

Who said I'm worried about the developers? This is a community where we have our own opinions. At no point have I ever tried to convince others to believe my views but judging by the reaction in threads with demo users asking for more I can see I'm not the only one.

Quote :I am usually be considered a demo user that "have no intention of ever buying it" (s3 licence). This just a prejudice. I would buy S2 when i can buy a good wheel first. How did you know who will buy the game? Are you a psychic?

Again, where did you pull that conclusion from Didn't even mention your name and now I'm being accused of being `prejudice` . Who said I know who is going to buy the game, where does my post even bring that into conversation. You've also put one of my points across about some demo racers (I've seen quite a few who get along fine with S1/S2 users, even make things for the community) seeming to want this idea of them being treated unfairly. I don't even bring anything to do with you or knowing who will buy the game yet you've brought it up into the conversation to take a dig at me claiming I'm `prejudice`, strangely Creating a scene?

It could be that some S2 users live through this game and take all this stuff like a personal think?

People are passionate about this project but I doubt anyone takes any personal hurt from suggestions or critics, maybe the devs but I doubt they lose sleep over it.

but why that spaceflight?
in my humble opinion, it's unnecessary.

The `spaceflight` isn't exactly programmed into the game is it? It's one of these things that will probably get fixed before S2 goes final but as we know Scawen doesn't often/ever take shortcuts. I'm sure if he really wanted to he could go down the route of other `21st century` games and basically make the car stop dead.

There is hardly a tension between Demo and S2 users, demo users just like to blow things out of propotion and act like they are being treated differently. If a demo user asks for weather or anything thats been beaten to death a million times, they get the same response a S2 user gets.

Now what annoys most people are demo users who come here asking for more content for free. I'm sorry but to me that is just down right bad manners. The devs are actually paying to let Mr I've played the demo for 2 years play the game and they feel the devs owe them more! They have bandwidth costs, ok probably not a huge amount goes to one user but it all counts at the end of the day. Demo users of this game should be thanking the developers for being so generous, name another racing game that offers a free unlimited multiplayer demo...

There have been plenty of demo users who have earned great respect in the community through adding tools to it. Some of them have problems purchasing the game and most end up rewarded for there hard work by some genrous person.

Another thing that happens here quite a lot is demo users showing up from no where asking someone to buy them a license! It's too much like hard work for them to spend an hour every day earning money.

Personally I believe a lot of demo users create tension through what I've said above. To me it just seems like demo users want to feel like they are unfairly treated... when if they act like any other S2 users (bar some) no one would even pick up on the fact they are demo.

I'll end it with a quote that would annoy some as an argument for more free demo content, I wont name the person.

I dont have the cheek, i am just giving my opinion, if you are not agree just give you reasons without attacking the opinions of the others.

Ermm... yes. You do realise the internet doesn't just work... every time you browse a webpage you are costing that website money, all be it a very small insignificant amount but it all adds up. Every time you refresh the server list that costs the developers bandwidth. So... to you

Attacking!? So a opinion that is in depth is attacking? I'm justifying my reasons, so far you've failed to do it and are asking for more for free. Everytime someone disagrees with you it's attacking, how do you live if thats how you react to people diagreeing with you? I assume attacking to you means an answer too good for you to argue against to try and justify why you should get more for free?

Quote from Hockquan :
3. Release a mini patch after each voting round containing the new content and allowing it to be hotlapped and used on public servers.

The devs can't release licensed content in the first place hence the fictional content we have . The developers could have no involvement in the mods as technically they'd be making money off something they have no permission to use which is a dodgy area to get into. I feel rFactor is cutting the line very fine including officaly licensed circuits and just changing the name ever so slightly. I do wander how quickly they'd be removed at the threat of legal action. Modders can just about get away with it because they don't charge any money so it's quite hard (and pointless) to try sue them. Although I suppose a company that might have that particular series licensed could try sue on the grounds of lost proift.

I was working on a BTCC mod at one point for another game but it never saw the light of day because of the threat of legal action from the orgainser of the BTCC.

Your idea is how I'd work it but it's still not going to solve the problem of destroying pick up racing. The biggest problem is when something new is released everyone rushes off and starts using it. rFactor is the perfect example, there are so many tracks available and loads of duplicates varying hugely in quality. I've only ever made it into one server where I've had no problems. The rest of the time was full of mismatches and cars appearing to be driving in the air on a different track .

Quote :
(I'm right to remember that LFS has it's own bespoke track making tools?)

Yes, but you will most likely still need 3D knowledge to build the track. Doubt it's going to be as simple as making a scaletrix set if that's what you mean by `track making tools.`

Quote from XCNuse :consider yourself lucky, and your car at that, thats not much damage at all

Tbh, don't know what it's like in Austria but here, the car at that age would probably be written off. Someone rolled there car and smashed the side of our Passat in as they flipped. The damage sustained to the car was just the two driver side doors and front driver side panel. My Dad said when he saw it that the car would be a write off and indeed it was. Would have been a bit newer than ColeusRattus car.

Deers are a pest, I live in the countryside so there is often a few about. I still remember when some woman in front of my Dad hit a deer and it got jammed under her car as she came to a stop. My Dad stopped to see if she was alright and after she hesitantly (was a bit of a mess) looked at it said something like, "You think I can reverse off it?", my Dad was like . He managed to convince her trying to reverse with the deer still alive under the car wouldn't be the best option. Just couldn't believe someone would even think of trying that, the car was in a pretty bad state and the deer was well jammed. We had left before the police arrived, would hate to have been the person who had to tidy that mess up.

Custom designed and built car with a V10 Cosworth F1 engine in the back. Awesome looking machine, saw it back in 2005 although it was only on display. Unfortunately the F1 engine is proving too temperamental and I think he is swapping it for a DTM spec engine.

My Dad knows Graeme fairly well, helped fix up his Hillman Imp after he had a serious accident in it. He had just replaced the camshaft and was testing it out on the public roads when a brake pipe burst as he was heading into a tight corner. The car launched up a banking, flew through the air and landed square in the field. I'm sure he broke the seat (remember this is a race prepared car), seat wasn't designed to take such a load downwards. He was told he may never walk again when in hospital. He still walks with a limp but he has gone on to be double British Hillclimb champion and I think he won the 2003 Goodwood festival of speed.

I like the car to be quite positive on the front end and usually do a lot of trail braking right into the corner. I like to get a tad of oversteer to help steer the car around the corner to hopefully get on the power nice and early.

Nothing stopped you from testing it locally and sending the cheat and information to the devs. An honest person with no intent of cheating would do just that.

Must feel great getting that first win after 3 years of playing LFS

But in this forum you would find many post telling you that if you want more cars buy the game, and this post are from S2 licensed.

Well really... what do you excpect? In the end you aren't supporting this project your actually costing it money if anything, using bandwidth of the master server and the forum.

Do you have the cheek to ask for more variety in the free tasters you get offered in a supermarket?

More often than not the people who are demo users asking for more are the ones who never buy the game. Most have no intention to. I pre-ordered LFS the day I knew when it was coming out, the demo was more than enough to get me to pay up early.

Personally, for someone who claims to race formula cars I can't quite see how £24 is really anything, if you can afford to do that... Doubt it even covers a quarter of the cost of an entry fee.

I've never ever seen rules enforced on a driver for crossing the pitlane entry line. Would be stupid to penalise someone for that... the reason there are lines on the exit is to blend the drivers safely back into the pack.

One thing that would have to be taken into consideration is whether someone has parked there car or is cruising slowly down pitlane, in both cases it would be unfair to punish the other driver...

Personally I can't understand how the iVibe people can't put there brains together and use OutSim and OutGauge to do it... Seems to me as if they want someone else to do the dirty work and take the profits from that... Without a doubt LFS is probably one of the bigger markets of racing sims.

I'm sure Scawen would easily use some of his time that could be put to use on things in LFS that will make more of his customers happier if he was getting paid to add this support. Not unreasonable if you ask me, if someone wants to profit from the game and wants someone else to do the work for them.

I think that I have not managed to accomplish much anything yet, just few experiments that has shown promising possibilities, maybe some day I can get overall behavior to be what I seek, but I can tell that current result of my experiments is not perfect tire, there is some potential that shows that engine itself can do much better than how it has been used, but those are rather bad tires actually

Juding from what you've said I think you have understood me fine

The majority of mods and the deafult content of rF seems to have problems in the tyre department resutling in a horrible driving experience when you step over the limit IMO. I'd rather have the LFS way which seems to be a little too controlable at large angles than not being able to slide much at all. From the video I've seen of your work so far you seem to have managed to get rF to slide more naturally.

Thats the only important thing in a simrace, numbers are for engineering purpose, simrace is about feeling. Of course, is a better aprouch to make a physics model than just a code who move your forcefeedback like you want. But this is just about feelings.

Without numbers no racing sim would exist...

Quote :
I propose a challenge, drive rfactor F1, take turns faster as you can, dont push the throttle, then push the throttle (dont slide the tires, drive without aids), do the same with rfactor. If you know how a real race car feels, you will notice that LFS has a physics bug there.

Yes and how would you know about LFS BMW sauber...

Anyway, rFs BMW Sauber suffers the same fate as most rF cars. Start sliding and that's it, the grip disappears and no matter how much counter-steering you throw at it, the thing still spins as if you were steering in the wrong direction to catch it. That is a huge mistake in the slip curves from what JTbo seems to have managed... I also can't understand your point either... If you were to suddenly let off the throttle when the car was fully loaded around a fast turn, you'd most likely come out the other end backwards in real life...

Quote from Whitmore :A real driver does not need to have experience of driving different sims to give useful feedback on the sim they are developing. All he has to do is compare that one sim to reality. As I said before, you are confusing endorsement with development input

Of course a real driver needs exerience in other sims to give useful feedback. Okay he can still give feedback on certain things but you need something to give you an idea of what is currently achievable. Anyone who has driven anything around a race track will tell you that sitting at your computer with a plastic wheel is boring in comparison, due to the lack of G-Forces and the risk factor that gives you a buzz.

Look back through the years of racing simulations. F1GP was awesome in its time, so why don't we still think that now? Because a new crop of games appeared on the scene?

We all compare things relativley to what we know. There is a point where you have to say it's still a game (how does a real driver who has never played sims before know where that mark is?), as no racing simulation will ever come close to simulating the real thing until they figure out a way to simulate the real G-Forces on your body.

Let me point out I'm not saying a driver who has raced the car he is giving feedback on is totally useless without trying other sims. What I'm saying it's hard to get past that, "This is only a game" feeling. Giving someone a taster of what is currently available allows them to build a picture in there head to realise what's possible.

I think you'd be seriously pissed off if someone went and cost you 12gbs of traffic all for some stinky graph that tried to work out how much money you were earning... I'll be frank and say I don't know how much 12gbs costs as I don't use that sort of volume but it's still traffic wasted that could have been doing stats.

Fact is Phlos continues to prove the point he can't be trusted or follow the rules and morals set out. It's his own bloody fault for being banned and quite frankly if I were the devs I'd be banning him from the master server as well. Maybe even plan a holiday to France
