Quote from spanks :what was pole for skippy at infineon long last season? I honestly can't remember whats a fast lap there lol. I know the fastest guys were in the 47's..but how far?

I just did a few laps and ran a 1:48.15. I was a bit shocked as I normally suck at Infineon. I can be quick in each turn, but doing it all in one lap hasn't ever really happened before.

On another note, I forced myself to do some oval races today...

I was going in with my rookie 2.5 something license woooo lol. I think I had only done one or two oval races previously. I wanted to get my promotion since it is so easy to get to 3.0. Anyways, I actually wound up having some fun. I'm pretty decent at it too. I'm actually contemplating grabbing the late model and running some next season instead of getting all the road course tracks I'm missing. I know I'd have more fun running the late model than the legends. All this started because of the appeal of the trucks...I know I'd enjoy something like that way more than the legend cars with their stupid 15 second laps and no horsepower.

I'd need the LM + 5 tracks = $90 + $50 for Road America and Silverstone for the mazda...and I really wanted to get Sebring too. So that'd bring the tally up toooo 165 before getting 20% off..ouch

I am forgetting however that as soon as the Lotus and the Daytona Prototype come out I'm selling a kidney and some blood to get whatever I need...maybe I should hold off on some stuff

Well i laughed at your post spanks....I've just sold my left kidney in order to buy the Silverado truck...... whaha what a good deal I got I have two kidneys but theres only one truck....those iRacing fools I've got one over on them.

Oh and I can only manage a 1:49

Quote from The Moose :Ice Hockey every time. Fantastic sport.

American Football (what an ironic name) is dull.
Basketball is even more dull
Baseball is nothing more than overgrown rounders. A game for girls that even they stop playing by the time they're 10 years old.

Hey I play rounders in the garden with my daughter and she is 13 so your wrong about stopping playing at 10.

Yep the guys post that goes with it is funny as well, below

It has come to the attention of the Skip Barber Liberation Front that the Skip Barber has been held captive by iRacing during this season's week 13. This is clearly intolerable, and we have taken one of your vehicles hostage in exchange.

If you want it back in one piece (albeit slightly roughed up and looking a bit sorry for itself), you must release the Skip Barber. If you do not, we will be forced to start mailing bits of our captive back to you via UPS, starting with the grease nipples.

You have been warned. Our pliers are ready, the arc welder is lit, and we have Reservoir Dogs looping on the VCR to get us in the mood. If you doubt what we say, you have only to watch the following evidence...

or
http://rs20.rapidshare.com/files/159379455/iCrash.wmv (113MB)

Andrew McP... on behalf of the SBLF

PS Both the above links were very slow when I just tried them. Apologies if that stays the case.

PS I started out genuinely annoyed that I couldn't race the Skip Barber this week... I really dislike racing the Solstice. It's a claustrophobic little monster, which behaves like a stubborn oil tanker in my talent-less hands. But I have to admit that during this week's 'experiments' I've started to see the metal monstrosity in slightly different light. I still hate racing in it, and find the it deeply, unsatisfying to lap in. But it's useful for demonstrating the incredible physics under the iRacing hood. I may take it out for a spin again. Be afraid, very afraid. :->

Quote from danowat :Not exactly that straight forward, CAM programming takes time, cutters and holders are expensive. and cutters tend to break, and even "lights out" machining has an hourly cost, machine cost, servicing, oil, cutting fliud, operator etc etc etc.

That said, £1300 is a lot of money.

From my experience £1300 is not bad at all for a bespoke item like this.

Maybe worth the extra cost to get it done properly. Where are you getting the material from? ensure it is the correct spec and certified so. Also I assume you have detailed drawings Tristan? the drawing you show is basically a sketch.

Edit: Sorry just noticed sht 1 of 9

You just know at some point your all going to give it a try .

For me Sim racing is my hobby and as such I don't find it an expensive hobby. I have tried almost all other popular sims and this is the best online driving experience to be had in my opinion. The tracks are amazing and I have been having a sexual relationship with my Radical it's just such good fun. I can understand people saying it's expensive and a rip off or whatever but hey you have the choice to play it or not. I was even in a race with Dale Earnhardt Jr earlier.

Oh and just to add the cheapest real racing I can get up here in Scotland is the XR2 chamionship that comes in around £6000 for the first full season, a touch more expensive than iRacing.

Intrepid I'm so gald you got sorted mate as my ears were starting to bleed:P

Quote from th84 :So basically all I need to do is complete 4 tt's (or a couple of races) in a road car and get my SR above 3.0 (right now it is just below 3)? Correct me if Im wrong, but speed doesnt matter, right? I just need to avoid incidents, correct?

Sounds good, I should be able to do that tonight.

Thanks!

Well it may not be that easy, the rookie oval is a bit of a crashfest this week it seems and there are no time trials available. Good luck mate

The Radical physics were updated with the patch, the bad understeer issue has sorta gone now. I really liked the car before but now it's just fantastic fun.

Quote from DaveWS :Hi, the prizes do make this a very tempting looking league for sure. However, your English in the last few of your replies is terribly unprofessional and would probably put some people off before they've even properly considered signing up.

Dave people that are maybe not used to talking in forums often type like that to start with, I know I did until I realised I sounded like, well a drunkin illiterate scotsman....oh wait that is exactly what I am I think his first post is well written.

Well I've had a good few laps around a few different circuits with the truck and I find it very good really. It's a bit like the Late model but with more power and a maybe softer/bouncy suspension. At Daytona it makes my wheel go crazy with the feedback generated, almost like watching the onboard cam of a real race car wheel. I like that! for 15 bucks it's got to be worth a try.

I'm still getting my head around all the other updates, pitting, 'black box' settings, fuel loads and flags etc, looking good though. Just for a test I sat in neutral and revved the heck out of the engine, watching the oil temperature gauge go literaly round the clock before the engine died. The death of the engine is a bit of a non event as there was no crash bang wallop but ah well

The iRacing forums has mixed reviews as expected with the moaners moaning and fanboys loving it....can't keep all of the people happy all of the time I guess!
