Help from Italian friends?

Hello,

I'm currently working out in Italy and am bored shitless in my hotel room at night. I've tried searching around for somewhere in Ravenna that sells racing wheels without any success. I don't suppose any Italian race buddy could have a look on the internet and see if there are any stores in or around Ravenna that sells racing wheels? Anything will do, DFGT, G25, momo, whatever.

Thanks for any help.

Grazie mille!

You are just the sort of person this community needs. There can be great fun and competition to be had here!

Unfortunately not by me on the competition front!
Quote from DamiVaro :Good day all !!

My name is Mike, a 16-year-old boy from The Netherlands.

After going to all country's with my friends from the MX(motorcross), I decided that I wanted to do something virtual aswell!
So I played Test Drive Unlimited.. It took me 4 minutes to discover it was good fun, but not a sim in any kind of way.

So next I bought LFS S2, without looking what it was, kinda foolish, but all worked out just fine.
I had an old Thrustmaster Joystick wich was breaking down quite badly, so I saved some money and bought a G25, and I love it So I've hit a lucky combination I guess, LFS + G25 = Great addictive fun

So now I play LFS for about a week seriously and It's all steady going.
My achievement, where I'm most proud of is to drive the FBM on BL GP round in 1:16.34EDIT!:1:15.600(with someone crashing me 10 ft in front of the finnish so I Lapped sideways)
Still about 3 seconds slower than the fastest at LFS, but It's a start hehe!

A friend of mine plays this sim aswell, ended up with the same wheel as me! He bought S2 yesterday.

We made up a little Team named Forza Fuel! And we drive with the >>Forza<< Tag. Just for fun till we get better and stuff, and know why we keep getting time outs on our own created server hehe! (FAIL!)

So in daily life I'm a musician, aswell studio work as live performance. And that is were my passion lies. But when inactive with the music I play as much LFS as i can.
(music btw: www.youtube.com/MikeRoelvink)

My hobbies are playing guitar, longboarden, LFS ofcourse, computer, hanging out with friends and enjoy musical things.

Hope to have told you something 'bout myself!
If you want to ask a question, do not hessitate!

Righto?

Cheerio,

Mikey

Right got an EVGA 8800GTS sitting gathering dust, will run LFS and iRacing(on one screen) nae bother. I will send it to anyone that needs it for the price of shipping +£20. It's a good card just can't be arsed to package it properly or clean all the dust of it! It does work very well but upgraded recently to GTX 275 cos i needed a decent 3 screen view.

Anyone I know on here can get the 8800GTS for free if I know them.

Just reply and a card that runs well can be yours! Just don't expext me to package it like I loved it!

Edit: Gone to a good home

May 16, 2009 -
iRacing.com is proud to announce it's joining forces with NASCAR to create the sanctioning body's first officially licensed and sanctioned online competition division. The fact that iRacing is now a partner in NASCAR-Sanctioned Online Racing is not only a landmark development for the company, it's a tribute to the talent, competitive spirit and sportsmanship of the more than 12,000 members who have joined the iRacing family since 2008.

"Our members are passionate about racing," said John Henry, iRacing's co-founder and chairman. "They love to drive, and they love to compete. And they do it in the context of their overall love for racing in both the physical and virtual worlds. We're pleased that iRacing has been chosen as the home of NASCAR-Sanctioned Online Racing and expect that many of NASCAR's most avid fans will find iRacing's NASCAR-sanctioned series a great way to deepen their connection to and enjoyment of the sport."

The new partnership represents a bit of déjà vu for iRacing co-founder, CEO and CTO Dave Kaemmer whose previous company, Papyrus Design Group, developed several popular NASCAR simulation titles including the ever-popular NASCAR Racing: 2003 Season.

"This is sort of a homecoming for me and several members of the development team," Kaemmer said. "Our NASCAR roots date back to the 1990s. We're thrilled NASCAR shares our vision of internet racing as a new branch of motorsport. With the power of NASCAR behind us, iRacing and our growing global community are about to take another big step forward."

The new partnership was announced this afternoon at Lowe's Motor Speedway during a press conference hosted jointly by NASCAR and iRacing.com, and attended by representatives from many leading media outlets in the motor sports arena. They heard NASCAR officials confirm what iRacing members already know, regardless of the cars or series in which they compete.

"The iRacing product is so realistic that a number of our NASCAR drivers, including Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Brad Keselowski, A.J. Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose and Colin Braun are already iRacing members," said Blake Davidson, NASCAR managing director of licensed products. "From the beginning these drivers have raved about the incredible accuracy of the cars and the tracks that iRacing has produced and their involvement, along with NASCAR Competition, in the development will make the experience even more authentic."

The fact that NASCAR iRacing will be "authentic NASCAR competition" was underlined by the fact that Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition, was much in evidence at the announcement.

"Over the years, many of our drivers have helped develop their skills by participating in virtual training like iRacing," he said. "It's exciting to now have an online NASCAR-sanctioned series like iRacing that will be entertaining for our fans and help provide them with a greater understanding of what it takes to be a NASCAR race car driver."

Further details on the 2010 NASCAR-sanctioned series will be made available later this year.

Quote from tristancliffe :No, I didn't get to that. I'm too stupid to get that far with real problems

Approx values
v = 810kg/m³
d = don't know, as I never measured it before building the engine! But it doesn't matter in the pressure calculation anyway
D = 0.0275 (I believe, from memory, the journal is 55mm dia)
w = let's say 5000rpm, which is 523 rads/sec

Which gives 2527 Pa, which is (for my old fashioned brain; I can't do SI units of pressure and understand what they mean in the real world) 0.36psi - which is wrong.

So, either the calculation is wrong (doesn't look like it), my units are wrong (don't think so), or you are correct that the solution is a uselessly small part of the whole thing, and that overcoming the rotation isn't much of a problem and isn't the main requirement of oil pressure.

Me likes interesting topics. Thanks.

Viscosity is measured in centipoise or centistokes and totally dependant on temperature and flowrate. The Reynolds number needs to be calculated in order to determine either laminer or turbulent flow in the system. Likely laminer in your case.
Once this Reynolds number (unitless constant) is calculated then the correct formula can be applied to calculate and pressure differentials over a given system. (I like Crane for these sort of calcs)

The value you have given for v is actually the density of the oil (rho).

Also

1 Mpa = 1x 10^-5 bar

1 bar = 14.5 psi (approx).

Try getting free download of "crane flow of fluids through valves fittings and pipe" for the required formula and easy to follow fluid dynamics guide. (I used to have pdf document but can't find it right now:shrug

In general I would say that the force of rotating bearing would require negligeable pressure to overcome. Infact likely you would get suction through a venturi type effect. So the pressure you will need is totally dependent on the diameter of the annulus and the temperature of the oil.

(Excuse my spellling)

If you are struggling with Crane let me know and I'll try and help although these days my Engineering involvement is totally employed with harrassing subcontractors

Unfortuantely I can't help with the calculation as it's no way a simple calc. as many variables need to be taken into account to get anywhere like an authentic result. You certainly cannot ignore the viscosity of the oil as this is paramount to flow and pressure drop calculations, the viscosity will vary greatly with temperature so you will need the viscosity/temperature curves and the specific gravity for the oil you are using.

I'll be very interested to see what you come up with for this so please keep us posted, good luck
