Depending on how good you are dismantling things you could try taking apart your controller and putting the innards into a switch box or something like that. There are a few people on the forum who have built sim cockpits that could give you the specifics. George Keyumji springs to mind, but I don;t think he posts that much anymore...

Watch out for the people about to tell you to buy S2....

Quote from StableX :FPS games online are definately about practice to get decent. Getting your mouse and keyboard setup with the right parameters is ratgher like setting up your wheel for sim racing. It can take a while to get it right. Once that's right, you then nered to get your aim sorted and that, game depending, changes with the recoil of each weapon and the nuances of the game......

In answer, like any game, you have to prac to be decent!!!!

As a game, get HL2 and EP 1 and 2... excellent single player action

Got them mate, and they support triplescreen natively as well, which is fantastic.

Problem is, my gaming time is a lot more limited than it used to be, and therefore I want to spend it actually enjoying myself. Putting in hours of practice just to survive an extra few seconds between spawns just doesn't seem worth it. I'd rather spend time learning a new track/combo in LFS/iracing for example.

I dunno, simracing to me is satisfying whether I finish first or dead last. As long as I have another car to battle with I'm happy

Ah, good. At least I'm not on my own then! Looks like I'll be sticking to online racing from now on. As has been mentioned earlier in the thread, at least you can still enjoy yourself racing, even if you aren't particularly fast..

Now, where can I get hold of a set of CST pedals here in the UK?

Hi there,

I've recently upgraded my PC to a triple screen setup for my racing sims and music stuff, and as a result have bought a more powerful GPU (GTX 285) . As a result of this I decided to give a few online FPS's a spin, as I want to get the most out of my new purchase....

BIG MISTAKE!

A keyboard and mouse is by no means alien to me, I never considered myself that bad at PC games before, and can hold my own (ish.. ) on xbox live, but this was mental. Before I could even draw a bead on an enemy I'd already been killed. Often I would only have spawned for a few seconds before being shot. The game didn't seem to matter, COD4, UT3, TF2, you name it, I was useless. Asking for advice on how to play better just lead to replies of 'stfu noob!' or equivalent.

Trust me, if you want to get so frustrated you could bite a chunk from your desk, try joining an instgib server in UT2004!

Are PC FPS's the sole preserve of those who practice 5 hrs a day and have no life? Is it possible to play any PC game online casually without getting destroyed? I don't want to win every game, just feel like I have at least a minute CHANCE!

Or should I just stick to my racing sims and leave it at that....?

I paid for the year subscription last July, and am happy with the way iRacing is progressing. However when I paid for iRacing in the middle of last year the exchange rate was just over 2 dollars to the pound. At the moment it is $1.47 to the pound.

Thats quite a hefty mark-up on an $170 subscription! Just over £30, to be exact... Whether I will be able to justify spending that much extra cash compared to last year on a new subscription is anyones guess....

Quote from Jakg :If TH2Go "fools" windows into believing you have one huge-ass monitor - can you still drag 'n drop windows and maximise them to a monitor, or does it just maximise them fully?

Hi again!

Well, I tried the SoftTH approach and liked it so much I went out and got the TH2Go digital and a GTX 285. A quick go on COD4 with SoftTH (before it crashed...!) made me want the extra game compatibility and performance from the TH2Go and new GPU. The bezel management really does make a difference as well, especially in racing sims with the mirrors and dash etc lining up properly behing the bezels. I'm using the trackir4 with the triple screens at the moment. TBH you probably don't NEED the head tracking with the extra FOV, but it really takes the immersion up another notch.
You were right about the extra productivity as well, my music software is incredible to use over the extra screen real estate.
Got to say though, the TH2Go Digital took some trial and error to get working in Vista. If anyone wants a detailed run-through at how to set it up at 5040x1050 in vista send me a PM.
Oh, and to answer your question Jakg, there is bundled software that allows you to set up the behaviour of the 3 screens. I have it set up so that if you maximise a window, it maximises within that monitor, and new programs open up on the centre monitor by default.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the excellent advice guys. I've decided to plump for 2 new identical 22'' lcd screens and a generic PCI-E card. I might as well give SoftTH a go first, if it does everything I want I can save myself over £250 compared to the Th2Go!
Need advice before buying Triplehead setup..!

Hi all,

I am looking into upgrading to a Triplehead setup, primarily for my racing sims and the extra immersion it provides. Before I take the plunge I was wondering if anyone here could offer advice on the following..:-

1. At the moment I use a 22'' Samsung 2232bw monitor. I cannot find this monitor on sale new anywhere, as it has been replaced with new models. Would buying 2 identical similar monitors for the left and right work, or would I notice significant colour differences when moving my view from the center monitor?

2. Can anyone recommend a cheap widescreen monitor to use alongside my existing 2232bw samsung? I want to make the setup 3x22'' 16:9 monitors, with resolutions of 1680x1050.

3. I do a lot of music production, and it seems there are several people around here that do too. Would it be easy to use the triplehead setup to spread my music software over multiple screens? For example, a mixer on one screen, a track view on another and, say, a score layout on the third?

4. I'm looking at getting the Matrox Triplehead2go hardware. How does this compare to SoftTH? Could I use the 3 monitors as an extended desktop as described above using SoftTH? Does using Soft TH use more system resources than the TH2Go? Does Soft TH even support the native res I am looking for of 5040*1050? (Sorry, lots of questions there! )

5. Where is the best place to get the TH2Go? Cheapest I've seen is £245 from scan.co.uk.

6. My current spec is an 8800gt 512mb, Q6600 and 4gb ram running Vista 32bit. Would this be enough to run LFS and iRacing etc at a decent lick across 3 screens, or would an upgrade be in order?

Thats all I can think of for now. Sorry about all of the text, and thanks in advance for your replies.

Andrew.
