I agree with you. Hence the fact I only modified my pedals to have the throttle and brake at the correct level under braking. I am happy with the lateral position of the pedals how they are.
I was having similar problems, mainly because when under braking the brake was lower than the accelerator. This meant I had to 'twist' my foot backwards in order to blip the throttle, which became painful after a while.
I made a quick pedal mod to make the brake and throttle pedal heights more akin to RL and have been pleased with the results. I decided not to move the brake laterally as I have large feet, but you could easily achieve this by adding a metal plate.
You are missing the point. Before X30 many LFS demo-ers stuck with it with no real intention to buy S2 because they could drift in the XRT. The demo is intended to be a taster for S2, not a free game.
As has been said, the demo now reflects more accurately what LFS is about, and gives demo users more of an incentive to buy. Personally, I think Scavier have been more than kind with demo content thus far.
Thanks for the comments everyone.. As I say, its a godsend now the test patch is out, and is completely reversible if you don't like the changes. Win win really.
I have since replaced the washers with machined aluminium spacers (thanks to my dad's workshop )and the result is fantastic. I have now got the pedals exactly how I want them (I decided not to move them laterally) and the spacers match the overall look of the pedal base. Heel an toe is now MUCH easier... The aluminum spacers meant I could increase the spacing compared to just using washers.
It certainly has done the job, and now I'm happy with the pedals how they are. At any rate, it is a good intermediate fix, and gives you an idea of the different feel before undertaking something more radical...
As I'm sure you're all aware, the brake, clutch and throttle pedals on the G25 sit 'on the same line', unlike a real car in which the throttle is set back in relation to the brake and clutch. This causes problems when trying to heel and toe with the G25.
My solution is this:-
1. Unscrew the brake and clutch pedals.
2. Get hold of some M4 screws at the length you desire, in my case 1 inch longer than the screws supplied. (i used 40mm countersunk screws.)
3. Get a bag of washers. Use them to create a spacer between the pedal and the lever arm on the pedal base. In my case 14 washers per screw did the trick.
This seems to have held nicely, and the difference in pedal heights has made heel toe easier. This doesn't solve the problem of poor pedal positioning but it is a useful, cheap fix.
After performing the easiest ever G25 pedal mod (replacing the pedal screws with longer ones and using washers as spacers) I am ready to start heel toeing properly, especially now the X30 patch is out. One problem, although I know it will make my driving better, I don't know when it is appropriate to use the technique.
So,
When should I heel-toe? Every downshift?
Which cars should I heel toe with? Is it used in single seaters and cars with a sequential box?
+1.. I did the exact same as you, changing from 400 to 720 and wheel turn compensation at 1.00. While it may not be faster, it is a lot more immersive and true to life, which is the whole point of SIM racing, IMHO...
Thats what I was thinking, to be honest. As it stands, I'm thinking of moving the brake about 1.5cm to the right, and the clutch about 2cm to the left. I was really just wondering if there was any 'universal' pedal setups about, which there probably isn't.
Further to my previous thread about heel and toeing on the G25, I have decided to carry out a simple pedal mod. It involves using pieces of wood to place the clutch and brake about 1 inch 'higher' than the accelerator and to place the brake and accelerator closer together. This should help approximate a real cars pedals more closely.
It should look a bit like the pictures attached... (Not too aesthetically pleasing but should do the job. I don't intend to move the clutch quite that far.)
Now, how should I space the pedals? ie how close should I place the brake to the accelerator, and the clutch to the brake?
Obviously I'm not just ramming the pedal with the side of my foot, but even so, there is still an (albeit small) lateral force on the pedal. Try it yourself in slow motion.. I was more concerned about gradual wear to the pedal rather than shearing it clean off!
I was trying some heel and toe on my G25 earlier, and noticed that however careful I was, there was always some lateral force on the accelerator pedal when blipping the throttle. This hasn't lead to the pedal moving sideways yet, but could it cause damage to the pedals in future?
Any veteran LFS-ers experienced any loose/broken pedals on your G25 as a result of heel and toe-ing?
I removed the split time display from the options menu. I found I was more consistant when concentrating on driving smoothly rather than my lap times, and have broken quite a few pb's since I changed it.
Yes, the clutch will 'bite' with the G25, although there is obviously no physical feedback like in a real car. Also, clutch simulation is to be improved on in the upcoming patch Y.
You can't buy LFS in shops, you need to purchase a licence online from here:-
