Quote from J@tko :OK, so if I do buy rFactor, what are the 'must have' cars/tracks/mods/whatever?

Realfeel plugin and Leo's FFB plugin, most of the mods will still feel shite but it's the best you can do i'm afraid.

Get the Historic GT mod, great fun to drive! Also, as mentioned above the Corvette is essential.

As for tracks, there are really too many to choose from! Obviously Nordschleife, most of them are built to a pretty good quality anyway.

I'd avoid the f179 mod though, unless you eat understeer for breakfast.

I'm actually quite glad I didn't get my invite last night as i'm struggling for cash at the moment, the subscription might have finished me off!

I'm quite suprised by the good reviews too, I thought it would get slated to bits, but am I the only one who finds the incident points stupid? Someone spins off right in front of you with 0% chance of avoiding them and you get penalised for it!? If you can't implement a feature without proper support for it, then what's the point...

Ordered the G25 at 7pm last night and recieved it at 11am the next day!

It's a great wheel, really pleased with it. So much smoother and quieter than DFP

Quote from ChiShiFu :Hrm.. this is kinda counter to what I've learned through a kart class I sat in on. Aren't you supposed to to throw the kart into the corner (slide it in) to get the nose pointing to the exit faster? This lets you just stomp on the gas and keeps revs up. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Not at all, you need to be smooth, but aggressive if you know what I mean. You don't want to be throwing the kart round the corners as it will make you slide and in a hire kart, you will never get the revs back up again. In 2 strokes, this is less so as you have the power to make up for your sliding, but in hire karts i'd strongly advise you drive smoothly

Good man, I've just this minute bought a G25 also! I hope it's a good improvement over my noisy DFP

Proably a Logitech DFP mate, they are a great wheel and relatively inexpensive. I'm just in the process of upgrading to a g25 which hopefully will be slightly better!

There's also the Logitech formula force ex wheel which is cheap and I believe pretty good quality
Follow me

DFP is here
Click

I'd stay away from the lesser known brans as the quality isn't allways there. At least with Logitech you know you are getting a well made and good quality piece of kit

Be very smooth, don't slide at all. I imagine you'll be using slow 4-strokes so keeping your momentum and the engine revs high is crucial

Also, I would adivse you to wear a thick jumper as it bloody hurts if you get hit and you don't ahve the luxury of a rib protector, the amount of times i've had massive bruises on my back is ridiculous.

LOL, i'd die of boredom after making 5k on a cruise server!

I race at Warden Law at the moment, i'm pretty much a rookie though, the engine's allready needed one rebuild, but i'm doing pretty good so far in the races

I'm afraid I don't have £750 to splash out on stuff like this Even if I did have a racing licence, I couldn't really use it as I don't have the money to go racing tbh.

I'm struggling to run my kart as it is, and it's a 4 stroke ffs!

Good luck mate! I'd give my right arm for a shot at that, although I may then struggle with the test slightly

Think yourself lucky, and pass!

Hmm. That screenshot really does look pretty good, although i agree with Jakg on this one. The accuracy of the circuit doesn't really matter very much to me, it's the way the cars feel that is important. You don't want to end up paying $20 a month for a track that is accurate but cars that handle like the majority of rfactors countless mods.

I will definately buy or 'rent' :P the game for a month, try it and make my own opinion of it as you shouldn't let yourself be put of by other's views.

I had an awful round in Canada which means i'm struggling on the cash front to update my team!

The bonus question looks relatively do-able this time though

Btw(for the 1st post) , Jaws F1 is run by me (jaws99)

I must say I prefer Setup Grid.

I just seem to get more 'quality' setups from 'setup grid' than 'setup field'.

I also prefer the interface on the setup grid site, it's much easier to find the combo you are looking for. To my eyes, setupfield looks rather cluttered and messy, but that's just my opinion!

Grrr I missed the final 5 hours

Can any British viewers find a highlights show anywhere on sky? I can't seem to find one at all which is a bit odd. If you didn't see it live you don't see it at all?....

Yes I agree, I find it much easier to get in the 'zone' whilst driving a kart and often find myself doing about 10 perfect laps one after the other, whilst in LFS I find it harder to keep my concentration.

I think this is party down to the 'danger' factor in real racing, you get an adrenaline rush which keeps your concentration levels high whilst in LFS the lacking of the danger factor means I can't keep my concentration levels up. I certainly make many more mistakes in LFS than in real life, but it's probably also fair to say that you push harder in LFS than in real life racing.

Quote from [DUcK] :I don't know what all you guys are talking about sweating and arm pains and such... maybe you're trying too hard... :/
I think as Arrow said in his post a few pages back, I try to drive with the softest touch possible ie fingertips, I don't use much force either, depending on the amount of caster I'm using in GT cars 10-15% and 20% in road cars.
All you guys sweating I have no idea about 'cause usually after a while I find myself turning the heater on because my fingers are getting cold

Pretty much the same for me mate, I tend to hold the wheel really softly and I tend to be really smooth with the wheel movements. Maybe it's something to do with karters

Congrats to Kubica!!!

Hamilton showed what an idiot he is yet again, this red light issue has happened so many times you'd think that by now the drivers would be aware of it.

My set seems to be good over a short stint but it's really difficult to keep the tyres cool over a longer stint.

Does anybody have some sort of base endurace set for this track?

Cheers

Quote from J@tko :I havn't looked at the replay, but I would recommend putting R3s onto the rear, otherwise the back tyres will heat up too quickly, causing too much rear grip, making you understeer and wear the fronts down quicker

Ok cheers mate. Will try that

Any extra advice is still much appreciated

Ok. Thanks for your feedback. Here's a replay. I know it isn't a perfect lap and I slightly messed up the last sector but considering I hadn't drove the combo until 8pm last night Idont think it's too bad!

Im driving with 50% fuel and R4's on the front with R2's on the rear. What do you think? Am i being too rough with the tyres or is it partly the set?

Cheers
