Sure, we're all disappointed, but it sounds like it'll be worth the wait. To help yourself get over the let down, go get Z5 and enjoy the temporary advantage (ABS) you have over people who don't read the test patch forum.

I agree it would be nice to force ABS (and TC for that matter) off at the server level.

What I was asking for though, was that the FXO not even have the option of ABS to balance it with the XRT and RB4. I admit this is artificial balancing, but there are plenty of real world examples of that in real-life multiple make sports car series.

Having said all that, I've realized that even if ABS was taken away from the FXO, people who still wanted ABS on it could just use Z5 instead of 0.6A. So to sum it all up, nevermind.

I'll be sure to ask all the FXO drivers I'm racing against to do that.

Any chance of taking ABS away from the FXO? It might be a quick and dirty way to even up the TBOs.

Quote from Zen321 :Very true.
It feels like driving on american roads. Every time you get pulled-up for speeding (1 mile over the highway 55 mph limit yay), they ask for checking your car for marijuana if you're young. If you refuse (which is your constitutionnal right), they threat you to take you to jail and call the canine brigade which will be likely to smell anything but marijuana (they react to fuel...), and you'll have your car opened and taken to jail for no apparent reason.

Wow. I'm always 7-10 mph over the speed limit when I pass police and I've never been pulled over, searched for drugs, or thrown in jail. I guess we drive on different roads. Please let me know which ones they are so I can avoid them.

Quote from plehto :realistic slip curves for slicks, undertray downforce, downforce relative to yaw

I like realism as much as the next guy, and I'd be happy to hear that any of the above have been addressed in a patch. But TBH, I don't think I'd notice very much difference from any of them. I wouldn't say, "Alright! This finally feels exactly like a real Raceabout!"

A new car, on the other hand, is very easy to notice. Bad undertray aero notwithstanding.

When I first got my glasses I was surprized to find that trees had leaves. Until then I thought they were just giant green blobs.

I did the contacts thing for a while, but I never liked poking my finger in my eye. Plus I would lose lenses in weird places - at the beach, down the sink drain, etc.

edit: I updated the first post with more current information.

Glad you could hop on, TB. That was some good racing last night. We managed to attract a pretty decent crowd during a traditional dead time (11pm Eastern US) last night. I even recognized some Europeans from the forum on, who were up way past a reasonable bed time. Maybe we were the last stop on the way home from the pub.

Part of the reason for the crowd last night could be that we switched tier 1 to those three little words that put a smile on any LFS player's face ...

XRT RB4 FXO

We intend to keep it that way at least until the 19th. There's something happening that day, but I can't remember what exactly.

... Kentucky Oval ...

I'm so glad to see that there's someone else who see's KY and thinks "Kentucky" rather than "Kyoto". I still make that mistake after 3+ years.

We now return to your regularly scheduled topic.

It's usually Wednesday nights that we try to get the gang together to race, but the server is up all the time. Some people are on there almost every night (Eastern US time) of the week.

It usually only takes a few races on an otherwise empty server to attract a small crowd.

I'm finding myself strangely addicted to this server.

Is wrong way spectate enabled? I was on Saturday and people were driving backwards on the oval. I thought I'd seen in this thread that wrong way driving was "discouraged", but it should enforced too. IMO at least.

Along those lines, is there a guide on what's allowed/expected? I've started playing on this server like I did in the DD games, meaning I will take someone else out to advance a position if it won't slow me down. I saw lots of people going out of their way to cause wrecks that would obviously end badly for both parties.

I know too many rules can kill the fun, but wrong way driving, ramming a stationary car, intentionally wrecking by yourself, etc don't help you win the race.

I saw a lot of "it's DD, anything goes!" comments, but is it really? Maybe I'm off base here. It wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks for that, Straightsix.

We've made a few changes in the last few days that should help keep people around longer.

- Implemented a welcome screen showing the scoring system and requirements to stay on server 1. We were seeing a lot of people do the normal "pickup server" pattern of pit, crash, pit, crash, pit, crash, pit, crash and getting booted in their first race. Now people should know not to do that (if they read the screen at least).

- Throttled the yellow flags given for a single incident down to more reasonable levels. It takes a pretty massive crash to get more than 2 yellows now.

- Added some additional stats to the racer list on the website. We now show two additional statistics. Race completion percentage and yellow flags per lap.

I was once on the Today Show (NBC). Not as a guest mind you. One of those idiots that wakes up at 4am, stands in line for hours, and has a camera pan past them for half a second on the plaza outside. My wife's idea.

Small bump.

We've made some changes to the system.

- Tracks now rotate every 3 hours.
- Tier 1 is MRT, tier 2 is FOX.

The MRT can be a handful, but the last few nights we've had some really good racing. I didn't buy LFS until S2 came out, but apparently the MRT was very popular back in S1 days.

The car choice isn't set in stone, but we do plan to stay with the MRT for a while at least to gauge community interest.

We have more updates planned. Stay tuned

Quote from thisnameistaken :Big patches tend to turn up every six months or so. The last one came in the summer, so maybe we'll see one soon. Scawen seems to like to clear his desk a bit before christmas, then take a nice long break, so again - maybe we'll see something soon.

I am not Scawen, nor am I speaking for Scawen. I am guessing based on the way things have gone since I've been here.

Big patches do tend to show up every 6 months. And almost always they are preceded by a 30-45 days of complaints that LFS is dead.

This thread doesn't fit into that category. Those usually have titles like, "LFS - nothing new for a long time" or "LFS is dead to me" or "Nobody races online anymore". By my calendar, we're almost due for one of those threads. C'mon people, get to work!

I was part of that 22 on my lunch break . This is a lot of fun. I think it's all a matter of expectations. On other servers, you hope you don't get crashed in T1. On this one, you know you will .

I agree you can't give a complete exemption for actions taken during sporting events. Where to draw the line though becomes an interesting discussion.

If you can go to court for incidents that happen in sporting events, nearly every hockey player should be in prison.

If I recall, even the brawl at a Detroit Pistons (NBA) game a few years ago, where some players went into the stands after fans, didn't end up with any players in jail.

Quote from SamH :Yeah, it's not like you ever get a whole grandstand cheering when someone gets taken out or booing when someone they don't like's kid brother gets pictured. Oh wait..

I was at this race. There was plenty of cheering when both Speed and Stenhouse got taken out.

My initial reaction was that Speed made a really stupid move. After watching it on TV and seeing Stenhouse push him halfway down the back straight, I have a little more sympathy. Still, the end result was the driver for a small, family-run team (Justin Allgaier) won the championship and is moving on to bigger and better things. So it's not all bad.

Thanks for the kind words.

We've made some tweaks to the system in the past few days. Namely
- Limiting yellows to one per 3 seconds. The "6 yellow crash" doesn't happen now (unless it lasts 18 seconds ).
- Graded scoring - both positive and negative - when less than 6 people are in a race.

We're pretty happy with the way it's working out so far, although we haven't achieved critical mass yet. It's the chicken and the egg - to get people to join the server, you have to have people on already.

I find that if I hop on the server I can draw a small crowd within a few races, but we don't have constant traffic yet. Still, it's better to have a great race with 4 people than a crappy one with 32.

Quote from Crashgate3 :Yeah, seems a really good plan. I especially like the way the tiers don't neccesarily reward speed ( )

EDIT: Sorry, reading that back it sounds really sarcastic, I can assure you it wasn't meant to - I really do think it's a good idea

No offense taken .

It's definitely not perfect. LFS yellows seem to be based more on the actual speed of the car vs. the expected speed of the car at any given point. We noticed in testing for example that some spins were almost completely ignored by LFS.

That's why we've supplemented LFS-thrown yellows with spin angle detection. The combination of the two produces pretty good results. It's not 100% accurate, but the end result is that losing control gets penalized, maintaining control gets rewarded.
