BF1 forced TV view driving backwards on the dragstrip. Nah, not really, although forced TV view would be awesome for banger racing.

I may start something up in the mid-April, early-May timeframe. I'll be sure to spam all over the place and PM most of you to make sure nobody misses it.

No comments on the race yet? Maybe it's because I actually got to watch the whole race, but I thought it was pretty good. Of course the threat of rain always makes things interesting. Turn 1 lap 1 looked a lot like a public LFS server, but beyond that there was some good racing.

I was also glad to see that the broadcast crew didn't focus on Danica all the time.

I did like the excitement of the pitstops, especially the way the cars bounced coming off the jackstands.

I didn't think the race was that boring considering the nature of the track. Although with refueling gone and tire preservation is the big story, it was a little discouraging that the tires fared as well as they did. With the high temps and sand blowing on the track, this should have been a killer track on tires. Hopefully they pick compounds for the rest of the races on the soft end of the spectrum.

I hadn't posted the Screw yet for this round, so here it is. Given his connection problems pratically every round, glenh deserves a Rusty Screw at some point. I'm sure he was frantically trying to replace the tin cans and string on his router as we were forming up the grid for race 1.

Congratulations, glenh!

Quote from thisnameistaken :Bear in mind the G string is actually tuned higher than the C string (it should be a thinner string). You're basically tuning to an open C6 chord, with the fifth (G) on what you'd expect to be the bass string.

Oh, that's different than what I thought. The toy ukes seemed to have a thicker string for the bass string. I suppose on a normal uke, the thinner/tighter string for the bass would be to even out tension? In any case, thanks for the info. Makes me want to go buy a proper uke now.

Some friends of ours have some toy ukes around the house. When I've played them I've always tuned them in fourths, like the lowest four strings on a guitar. This thread inspired me to look up the standard tuning, which is apparently the like top four strings (4th,major 3rd,4th) of a guitar. Now that I've learned something I can go home for the day.

I could have done this last week, but I was too lazy to make a trophy then, so here goes...

Congratulations to Cabby for winning his second consecutive S3R league In case you're wondering, the other one was a UF Baby R league at race2play. He ran up front most of the time and hung around for decent points even on his off nights. Even if No-Sho (hehe) had been at all the races, Cabby would have been very tough to beat. Well played, Mr. Cabby!

Quote from Cabby :Ok, was that a real story or something you made up? If it was real I want to read the rest of what it has to say about Percy Jackson.

I made up the part until the Percy Jackson review. After that it's all Roger Ebert.

I'm going to be driving in circles for a while. We'll see how long that lasts. I'm sure whatever league I join will fall apart right after I get there, so I'll be back running another LFS league soon. I have some ideas kicking around that sound interesting to me at least.

Nice racing this week again, and congrats to Cabby and CSF for the wins. It's interesting how most people's laptimes improved by about 2 seconds in race 2. It almost seems like we've made a gentleman's agreement not to practice

Nobody stood out for the rusty screw to me, although Eau Rouge seemed to claim a few victims early in both races.

After feeding the massive pile of ballots through the Florida board of elections, we have a two way tie!

Congratulations to both T-Sho and Elderado for the dual victory. Elderado had some authentic-looking crap on his car, plus as Cabby pointed out, a great bumper sticker. T-Sho pushed the boundries of technology by coloring parts of his skin with crayons. Very retro!

Enjoy your reward!

Quote from z-ro 8 :Maybe Brad learned to race in LFS.

Seriously though, Brad and his brother both raced years ago in the Main Event Racing series, which uses 600+ hp 2700 lb. late models on 3/8 to 5/8 mile tracks, against some pretty tough competiton. Racing against guys like Rich Roher and Gary Whipkey can either scare the shit outta you or make you a hard-nosed competitor fighting for your place and respect, so you end up carrying that behavior with you for a long time...

As a matter of fact, i think you can browse some old pics at www.maineventracingseries.com . i used to crew chief a late model on 2006/2007 in that series. Bad-ass cars.

OT:

I grew up going to Barberton Speedway (an awful track in retrospect) most Saturday nights. I remember Gary Whipkey from back then (25+ years ago :schwitz and I've seen him race with the MERS at Columbus Speedway in the last few years. Could it be the same guy?

In the case of Talladega, the right thing was NOT to back out and let a guy in. Unless the right thing was to let somebody else win. If someone is cutting across your line, you shouldn't back out to keep the guy from wrecking himself.

Everyone worships Dale Sr. because he never gave an inch to anyone. But if a pimple-faced kid drives like that he's a menace. Give Keslowski some zit cream and a soup-strainer mustache, you'd start seeing #12 stickers on the back of pickup trucks.

Quote from z-ro 8 :Way to go Carl Edwards trying to kill another competitor.
What a F**king douche...

Killing a competitor is one thing, endangering fans is another. It seems NASCAR didn't think through the "let boys be boys" policy very well.

It sure was exciting last night. I had some great racing with JoZy in race 1, although I could tell his suspension was giving up, so I kind of took it easy and waited for a good spot.

Race 2 was a roller coaster for me. Getting into second early after the fracas on lap 1 off the final jump, watching Gil run away, watching Gil pit (tip: bring extra fuel to Blackwood next time ), watching Boothy serve his DT and still reel me in, then get slowed trying to put JoZy back on his wheels, then pass me back on the last lap. It was almost more than my Burger King-coated arteries could take!

I'll take nominations for the Rusty Screw. Lots of DNFs mean lots of worthy recipients. Havoc comes to mind, but anyone who gets strawberry cheesecake between races should be removed from consideration.

Cabby has locked up the championship going into the final race. Congratulations! Rumor has it that Mike Helton has joined the board of the WBC and is lobbying for a NASCAR Chase-style points reset after round 6 next year.

I've updated the layout a tiny bit on the server. I took one tire stack off the end of the sandpit and put some red and white barriers of doom behind the tires just in case anyone's feeling chippy.
