"Good" would be a stretch for any of my setups. We'll go with "not awful."

I start out in the mid-high 1:15s with hybrids and get up to the mid 1:17s pretty within 5 laps or so. The non-ABS setup with massive rear brake bias stayed in the 1:16s until the back tires got over 100 degrees, then it was pretty much undriveable.

With road supers I was running 1:17s- 1:18s all the time. I need to do a lot more testing.

I've tried a bunch of things in my setup to get the tires to last. The most promising so far was to turn off ABS and move the brake bias to 30% (aka 70% to the rear). I got awesome turn in on the first and last turns for about 9 laps, but then my rear tires got so hot that I spun under braking for T1. I might try again with something closer to 50%. I can't remember now, is ABS something you can turn on and off in-car? Or is brake bias adjustable in-car?

Another thought is to use road supers on all four corners. They don't get as hot as fast and they seem to cool quicker. But of course they are awful on the dirt. I was 2-3 seconds slower per lap.

It was the best simulator when it came, back in 2001 or so, and nowadays only the great RBR is better.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately there's the issue with PAL-8 textures and newer video cards. Makes me want to build an old spec PC just to play this game again.

I will try again next week

I'm sure a strongly worded letter from the Commish of the WBC will straighten them out.

BTW, a few programming notes...

- The replays are now download-able from the results pages for each event.

- I've invoked the mercy rule and shortened the Fern Bay RX Green races (on Feb. 17th) from 40 laps to 30.

Quote from tshorter :May not count, as it was more of a mistake, but the picture looks cool I think. I'll leave it up to the judges. T1 Race 1 my RR got some air over a curb and I almost looped it.

Not a bad pic, although you started the drift by dropping a tire into the grass. According to Keiichi Tsuchiya in the drift bible that's how "little girls in Hello Kitty shirts"* drift.

The Rusty Screw goes to JayBee for his disconnection from a podium spot in race 2. Three of the four Canadians from last week don't show up, then the one that does gets disconnected? I need to make sure I disabled that anti-Canadian filter.

Nice racing again fellas. Congrats to Mr. Beer and Cabby on the sweep of the top two podium steps. The results will appear magically after midnight on the site. Like I said in the chat, I can't believe anyone ever chooses to drive an RB4 in TBO leagues. My LF tire won't even speak to me anymore. It sure adds a fun element though when you're trying to go fast and keep your tire from igniting.

Also, submit your pics in this thread for the honorary best drift pic award. I hadn't planned on doing anything like that, but the more I practiced the more it seemed I had to drift to keep the LF cool(ish). You may pimp up your pic by whatever method you choose, but it has to be your car in one of this week's races.

Don't feel obligated to practice on our account.

The server is up and passworded for the event tonight. One note on the first race grid...

After exhaustive testing, (2 races with AI) I found that even with /start=random, after a qualifying session, the cars will line up based on qualifying time. I have the server set to practice rather than qualifying, which should fix it. You may not be able to see everyone else's lap times in a practice session, but take my word for it, I'm running in the mid 1:50s Sorry for the mix up in the first event.

And remember there's no lag lap for race 2.

Quote from Thunderhead :I like some Kia and Hyundai models, simply for the fact that in my experience they have proven more reliable than some way more expensive cars that are praised for their reliability and build quality.

Crap to drive tho. But still fairly good bang for buck.

I love the look of the some of the old Sonatas. They look more like a Jaguar than most current Jags.

I've attached what I have so far for this race. I'm trying less for lap times and more for a setup that doesn't burn off the left front tire. So far this lasts about as long as my attention span, which is around 5 laps. I ran a mid 2:02 with it once, but most of the time I'm in the 2:04s.

I swear I had the grid set to random for race 1, but the front two spots did look suspiciously fast. I might need to go back to admin school.

As for the Rusty Screw... For flipping during his pole dance routine in race 1, then getting some pinball treatment in race 2, the Rusty Screw award goes to Bdshan. Congratulations and better luck next week.

Wow! Really nice racing guys.

I had tremendous battles with JayBee both races, and a heated melee with Gil in the closing stages of race 2. Congrats to Cabby on the sweep and T-Sho for sweeping the second step of the podium.

Special mention to glenh for giving a push in race 2 to Havoc, who assume ran out of gas, although he may have started drinking early for all I know.

The results should be visible by tomorrow. The points are up already. The site link is in my sig.

Reminder 1: You must finish a race to score points in that race.
Reminder 2: There will be a "lag lap" immediately before the start of the first race. This has less to do with lag and more to do with settling people's nerves. It's a long race, don't blow it for you or anyone else in T1.
Reminder 3: There is no telepitting and rejoining during the race. If you telepit and rejoin you will lose all points for that race. If you telepit, rejoin and wreck someone, you'll lose all points, plus get a penalty for wrecking. Just go to spectate and enjoy the show.

Additional notes:
- There are tire stacks in the sand trap exiting the final turn to negate any possible advantage from straight-lining the last turn through the sand.
- The grass on the back straight is fair game. You may drive there if you wish. You may be billed for new sod later though.
- Pitstops are allowed but not required.
- I'm not going to be the chat police, but please keep it to a minimum. We'll be happy to talk to you between or after the races. Abusive chat will be penalized. Feel free to block all chat. I don't have much important to say anyway.

Quote from bdshan :No Cabby, what he is saying is that in order to score points for an individual heat you need to finish it.

I hope that in official races more caution will be used in T1. Last night T1 was more of a demolition derby than a rally.

Correct on both counts. A DNF in a race means you don't get points for that race, but you still could get points for the other race that night.

Also I hope people realize for next week's races that you can't win it in T1. Even though the cars look awful, the racing should still be clean. In a real event if you get taken out, please protest (via LFS pm to me). We'll take appropriate action.

Aside from the T1 melees, it was fun racing last night. There are some nicely crappy looking cars already...
