Sounds very much like overheating to me. Check your temperatures with something like everest. Might be the gfx card, might be the cpu or might be your ram, can't really tell the ram temp though.
Nobody ever said the AI cars were clean. In fact, quite the opposite has been whined about, several times, so I don't quite see the relevance.
Some people do a pisspoor job at "defending" their spot though. Swerving left and right down the straight, just to be in the way. I'd gladly see to it that those people spin out, but seeing as I'm superslow, I've not yet had the opportunity.

It's not the same, that's a given. You can still race them, individually, which is the entire point I was trying to make.
Improvement...no, I guess it wouldn't, but it might be fun, tapping left/right arrows to gain speed in a wheelchair. Lawnmower racing, I would still do that I think, could be fun.
You seem to have misunderstood the concept of racing and apparently LFS. You can race any type of vehicle, including wheelchairs, lawnmowers and a trailer full of angry Scottish sailors, to name but a few. Hell, it's not even limited to vehicles.

you didn't just compare the lx6 to American muscle cars, did you? In any case, it's not even relevant.
oh and just to be clear, I don't dislike muscle cars, I just don't think LFS needs them.
72 is quite high yes, at least if you compare it to my 8800GT. I bought a new cooler for it, because it was at around 55 under load. You could do that, or fiddle with stuff inside your case, to make sure the airflow is good.
