Eventually, we'll reach something like star trek which has been on for like 40 years and we'll get Live for speed star galaxy evolution III

I think that a racing simulator is mainly "racing" and secondly "drifting". There's a good reason for this. I respect drifters, but I must say that drifting is kinda... not logical. You see... when you race a car, and I mean race, the goal is to keep it straight, you know... like not make smoke and turn everywhere... apparently it makes you faster. Drifter is like... all what you must not do with a car to be fast, which is why it's under "racing". LFS developpers have of goal to make the game feel the most realistic. Unfortunatly, it's not quite realistic now, which is why drifting is so easy.

p.s. Drifters usally hate me. Rednecks too...

EDIT: oh and by the way... I don't think you need a specific drifting track. People that do drift in RL drift on normal tracks or car parks, stuff like that. Still... you can ask Eric (not sure he will answer)... ask him if he wants to do one. Maybe he'll do so they can get more people in, which would be good indeed.

IT'S A MARVELOUS IDEA! Just don't exept it before S6.

Quote from himself :First of all LFS engine is not capable of using anything form normal circuits AFAIK.

Second of all imagine 100 people racing in one city at the same time - there would be so many crashes that it would be impossible to drive safely.

LFS would be a kind of MMPORS (massive multiplayer online racing simulation (new term?)). There would just need to be a kind of door to the track where you chosse your server.

It's true that everyone that wants the result of "fast as possible" would usally take out the spare wheel, as you don't care if there's one on a race-track.

At this point, fanboys will make their entry saying that it's not a race car. illepall

I believe Eric isn't working 24/7. You guys can think what you want, but as for me, I won't believe that Eric is working on anything before I have proof. He could have done marvelous things, yes, but so far we don't see anything, so there was nothing really done. The devs don't have anything to hid in the "situation" they are in. It would be a complete marketing stupidity to hid something to the community as the community wants something to see.

We can't see physics, still we know that Scawen is working on it. We can see GFX, but there's nothing new in the near future. (true until they say something)
`
If I was Eric, i'd work step by step. Like... "This week, I do Bolts for all the wheels and I put screenshots of that on the forum so people can see my work and comment it. Next week, I'll work on the interior or something"... etc..

okay then... Victor is doing the website and the sounds... Then what is Eric working on? eh? Don't answer gfx! We all know he's working on gfx. We just want to know what's he's correcting, developping! Is that secret info? Devs can keep it for them, but they just need to say: "We don't want to give you that info"! But just say something!

Don't worry LFS UK! It's always like that with leagues, or at least, often like that. As an Active member of the North American League, I can tell that it's not easy to get people in a league. On the other hand, at each season we started we had more members than the previous season. I think the first and second season were no more than 30 members. The third is officially (not everybody shows up) 71 members. The fourth season, beggining soon, will be even bigger.

Basically it only takes time. You can try to adversite or anything but I wouldn't recommend it, it's not worth the job. People will know realise that you are there after a couple of time ("Omg what's that? Is it new? where does it com from? - No dude... it's been here for a year.").

Besides, I don't think the LFS pie means much. I mean... the information is true, no doubt about that, but the % of people in each country that wants to race in a league must be around 10%, not more than that. In that 10% you have alot of people that prolly don't even know the league, which leave you basically with the users of this forum. In NA, we got 17.1% or a bit more cause the pie doesn't include Mexico, but let's say it's around 17. That % is around 12k racers (not sure, of course). But okay... on that 12k we don't even have 100 in NAL.

That's because in that 12k there's

- Alot of people not racing anymore
- Alot of people racing once a week, not enough for a league.
- Another good bunch of people that just don't want to race in a league.
- Another good bunch of people that would race if they'd know the league
- A little pack of people that race in the league...

Okay! So far so good we have some kind of a date, between April first and May first, which is not too bad as a target... I mean one month... in earth time that's a drop!

Still... [Whisper] It's very good to know what Scawen is doing and I think everybody agrees that it can only be good news. Besides, it will create, I hope, a better "forumistic" attitude. On the other hand, it could be even better (and I mean not good, but unbelievable) to know what are Eric and Victor doing... [/Whisper]

Noooooo please don't throw me rock! ouch! I'm sorry, I think I hit a tabu topic. No... seriously... Yes it was asked tons of times and yes it's pissing off the fan-boys, but come on... they could've been hiding in a world war II bunker with nothing to eat but dry bread for the past months and it wouldn't have been different! Please, tell us something about them, and something else than "they are working"... we need to know what they're up too!

I don't have any more dream pills, by the way. illepall

IMHO, all that was said is pointless cause we can't want anything from S3 as S2 isn't even out, yet. I mean... you guys don't even know what will be in S2 Full and you all start to talk about "omg! what will be S3 cars?? F50 I bet!!" or "hey what you think will be S3 options? I'd like contact with E.T's, personally." It's uselss to talk about something we don't know anything about, not even if it will really come on... one day, maybe before 2010

Well yes, that might be a good punishment, but actually that's quite not the thing to do. The problem is that they smashed the guy's computer, which let's say is a value of 2000$. The guy is out of the LAN with his machine broken and he actually been attacked. He just go see his lawyer and takes the LAN organiser in court for the value of his broken PC, 2000$ and let's say 50 000 for physical harrasment and maybe psycological, because he might feel very rejected and sick after the event, but i'm no psycologist so I can't tell, but let's include it. So there's the hearing and all the LAN's organiser's lawyers have to say is that he was cheating... uh... well that's not very serious. They can't really say that people who lost before the other guy cheated were psycologically attacked or anything. They also had to prove that the guy was cheating, which he maybe wasn't, and let's assume that they can't check in the guy's HD cause he was smashed and can't be read in any way.

Just a tought...

IMO, push to pass is really stupid, even in Champ car. They should never have put that. I mean... it's a race of pilots and cars. Why had something that come against that? It's like: "I'm not good enough to pass the guy in front, so i'll use PtP... *click* zooooommmm"...

I had words of some tricks that other leagues use to slow down the FXO to match it more with the XRT and the RB4. The trick is simply to add a passenger in the FXO, which makes the time more fair for the others.

We better talk about that when the site/forum is back, but I just wanted to open a thread on that.

Well...

According to the lfsworld stats, 20.5% of the racers are from Germany (I don't know if it's only the S2 racers, tho).

According to the same stats, there are 10 087 racers in Germany.

Simple equation: 100 * 10087 / 20.5 = approx 49205 racers.

That's all true, and this is where LFS is the best, and where nobody complains: LFS is fully multiplayer-friendly.

Players online
LFS - 425

rFactor - 21

LFS stats taken from LFS.net and LFSW.net
rF stats taken from racecast

I think it shows LFS isn't in trouble. Considering rFactor was supposed to be massive.

Keiran

That doesn't mean anything. If you'd play LFS when it's evening and begin of the night in America (like 9PM EST), you wouln't find more than 20 servers with people on it, and not more than 40 people playing. It is alot about what time it is and where the game is more popular.

@Scawen: I fully understand that it is normal to only write a progress report when there is something to update directly in the game, as you wouldn't do progress report that says that you've been testing things all month, but we don't have anything to give yet.

Maybe the solution to calm the LFS-frustrated players is to say what you are doing, even if it's not clear. For example, I think we all know you are taking a break and thinking of the physics, but we don't know really what is going on. A good remedy to that would be to say when you start programming something and what it is, even if it's a test or something hypothetic. Also, it's good to know what YOU are doing, but it'd be very nice to know what Erik is doing as well.

I'd also add something that I think personally. I know it won't change anything if I say something, but it's my opinion. I think we all agree that there are angry or unhappy persons about what is going on in LFS currently. There is a great remedy to that: fast patch. You've done it before, maybe without doing it. The patch that I'm talking about is the patch where Skidmarks were added. This was marvelous and everybody stopped complaining at that time, which is what you want! So, if I'd be you, I'd do things like that, that, hopefully, don't take too much time. For example, if you ask to Erik to design a new interior for the FZR ( ), this can be surelly done before the physics are done, and could be a small patch, with only that in it, and would make people happier.

Simple opinion.

I just can't agree with that! Come on! IF the hotlaps could do all the talking, the physics would have to be PERFECT, which they aren't. illepall

[LFSFAN:ON]I don't want to see more realism in LFS than what we have currently. If we get too real, it will be too hard to race. Ban realism, go beaming to pits[LFSFAN:OFF]

Errrrr...

Yeah, that's the point. This is realism... well... maybe the devs are seeing in the futur... we might be able to ''beam'' thing eventually

Okay, I just read this thread and it's completly pathetic... I just can't believe there is something wrong with this PC to run LFS. Considering that it runs all that games, there must be something in the game itself that is problematic with certain type of PC.

I might have an idea... I have a slower comp than yours and I get around the same fps (20-40). My cpu is AMD 64 3000+ and I have a Powercolor X700 PCI-E. This is too slow for my PC... it should run better than that... I just don't imagine what fps you should normally get. Here's the thing:

Of what I can see, LFS doesn't like PCI-E so much. Also, even if the card is really fast, it keeps running 20-40. Could someone tell me what they can get with a PCI-E card? Is there something wrong with thoses in LFS?

I can personally run F.E.A.R. on my comp... the graphics in this game are just... impossible to compare to LFS, it's wayyyyy better. And I run it with the same fps as lfs (around).

Some people also say that LFS asks alot of cpu... maybe it's true, but that certainly not the only factor that influence fps... and I think that maybe a good graph card is better than a good cpu. Man, you have a dual core and lfs runs 20-40? wow...

Quote from --==Gogo==-- :What would be the correct english word?

If beaming would not be possible maybe people start learning to slow down if something happens in front of them to avoid getting involved...

I don't think there could be a ''correct'' english word... the car actually doesn't beam anywhere, cause nobody knows where the heck are the pits? (:tilt If we supose that they don't really exist, I'd call that ''shifting out of existence''. So, when you press pits, you shift out of existence...

Quote from tinyk :Would you rather he go ahead and crash and possibly cause you and others to crash too? I know the pitting gets annoying because some do it way too often but the beaming to the pit as you call it is very much needed in some cases.

If someone has crashed and it's one of the situations where the car is out of control and may slide into others in the race... by all means he should 'pit' and fast. I Admin our servers a lot and if I see this type of situation happening I spectate the driver. I'd rather have one angry driver mad at me than 5 - 10 others all mad because he ruined the race.

People testing and tweaking sets during a race is what can become most annoying especially to those who have low fps anyway. If it gets out of control I ask them to stop and if they don't I have been known to spec them as well and turn midrace join off.

~*~*~*~tinyk~*~*~*~

Well... yes that might be usefull sometimes, but it's way beyond reality. What a game need to be good is realism. ''Beaming'' to pits isn't, in all cases. On another hand, it's true that it can be usefull if a n00b****zorz come on the road without any bad intentions, but is about to crash in the leader... then he pits and dissapears of the racetrack, which is a good thing, it's saving the race.

What would be fun is an option to disable the beaming to pits. In league races, or just on servers were people want realism. Then, if a crash happens, it will happen... it's sometimes pissing off, but it helps realism of the game. (IMO)
