Quote from NotAnIllusion :Lol I'm saying it was Vic who drove a 1:42 as biggie with the F2k.. and biggie drove a 1:42 in the F1600

or Vic photoshopped the HUD on to the F2k pic. Either way

... *zzzzssssshh* TOO MUCH.... INPUT..... MUST TERMINATE.... PROGRAM *zsssh*

/me fuses and crashes

Anyway, I wouldn't have thought Vic was capable of doing those things. There's a lot of criminal energy involved in this I have to say :P

Quote from Victor :i guess 1:42 is not so fast with that car

Uh! I'm having problems with what I should make of your post. So you obviously did a photoshop and edited my name into there?
Also I have no idea which times I did in my replay since there is not hud whatsoever...

Quote from NotAnIllusion :Oh btw could someone post a "good" clean lap around the demo track in the demo car please? I'd be interested to see how fast _fast_ is in this game

It's not fast, but at least it's some laps without spinning :/ I really have no idea how fast I'm going, where it grips, where it steps out or where it shifts or not when I actually told it to. Hope it helps a little though

Anyway, goin' off to bed, gn8.

Some more impressions: I can't run it on max details (textures) because in pits it's giving me less than 1 fps. As soon as I (somehow) manage to move away from the pit area, the fps suddenly jump to a decent and playable level. It's probably just my old GF4Ti4200 (64 MB RAM) which is not able to cope with the amounts of detail. But then, I don't know... shouldn't be THAT laggy. Probably even overheating problems? Didn't have problems for years, not even with Half-Life 2...
After some more testing I can't really say anything more positive on the engine sounds. I can't really tell which tone matches which amount of revs (unlike in LFS) and without either a rev indicator or speedo it's almost impossible to tell what's going on with the car.
Yes, I'm on demo and indeed, I've not been able to switch on the hud...
Another point making it lack in feedback is the skid sounds. I find it hard to tell when the tires are on or over their limit. So basically I was cought by surprise when the car stepped out.

I've also noticed a continous clicking sound playing once I clicked on of the buttons in the setup menu. It wouldn't go away and the game crashed shortly afterwards.
Another game crash happened when I intentionally hit a wall hard. I suddenly found myself dropping out of the track and falling into infinity. There was no way to bring the menu back up, had to kill the task.

Overall, NKP really feels unfinished. After all THIS is what I would expect from an Alpha Version. You actually get the feeling that you're lucky if something works as it should.
LFS, at it's current stage, is clearly is a different animal. It's light years away in terms of user friendliness, compatibility, driver/car feedback and of course "bug-freeness"

However, I can see potential in NKP. The handling overall is not too bad, I just haven't really gotten used to it. Still, NKP just give me roughly 40-50% of the feedback I get from LFS. Which is not enough to really master a car... :/
I won't be buying it anytime soon. Waiting for a seriously improved demo and might consider it then.

Okay, finally got it to go forward by changing my controller settings (thanks for the tip). Turned out that "paddle up" is not "shift up" for the 1600 car. You have to assign "stick up" to the shift up button on your wheel and it will work.
My first impressions are not really too positive. The track surface indeed looks too shiny, so do the tires. Other than that I could get little feel for the car (mind you, I don't use FF, just as in LFS). As many around here I haven't yet figured out a way to enable the hud or the speedo, so there's hardly a way to tell how fast you're going. Other than that there's a little controller lag for the wheel, doesn't make it easier. Shifting doesn't always work and is often delayed by 1-4 seconds. It seems I have to hold down the upshift button on my wheel for it to work properly every time.
Going into a corner too fast and hitting the wall, the suspesion broke and the wheel fell off. I was quite surprised with the suspension damage even though the safety chain on the wheel makes it wobble strangly when the suspension is broken.
Btw., I agree with the comparisons to rFactor. Somehow this feels similar :/

Well, it just makes you appreciate LFS's easiness and effortlessness even more...
I was also having problems with a weird white texture overlay at first. Some key like G, H or J something managed to switch it off (just tried all key blindly ^^) but it didn't help at all with the framerate. And I still can't get the car moving. Is the handbrake on or something?

Quote from ATHome :Is your engine even running ???

If not, then you've got the same problem I have...

My engine isn't even running, and I have no clue how to start it...
And as the manual offline doesn't work and the manual online was not found this pretty much sucksillepall

No, I've found out how to start it. Click the top lever on the steering wheel and hold the second lever below for a few seconds...
The sound isn't that stunning after all.
Honestly, the very first moment I was thinking someone had farted when I reved the engine... :ices_rofl

I recommend less HOTlapping

It certainly doesn't have anything to do with the lap times you're getting... as it has been suggested already, I think it is more likely that this is a cooling problem. Does it happen only after a longer time of playing or is it completely random? Also, does it happen when there's many cars on track or isn't there any clue on this?

Hmmm, been a while I've opened this thread

Talking about this thing with ORION, I developed a theory which I believe to have proven with the attached screenshot.
As many of you know, the current tire model implements the actual tread moving sideways on the rim in corners. This can be observed when entering corners with very high load on the tires (SO1 T1) and is even more pronouced when you're riding really low tire pressures.
Now I've been thinking why the tyre gets deformed sideways, not only longitudinally... I think this is basically the same effect, only that when hitting the curb, for an instant of a second, the tyres is being subjected to an enourmous sideways-force. This is because of the direction the curb has been hit. I didn't exactly go straight over it, I kind of approached it half from the side. I believe this sideway-force makes the tyre deform that radically. Now, if this were real, the especially suspension would surely be really happy about this, not just the tyre

But now for the screenshot. See the direction of the force on the tyre...

Quote from Theafro :Kinda like KY GP rev in the RB4, where Biggie leaps right over the kurbs. you wouldn't do it in a race due to the damage caused, but it's HLVC OK.

Everyone does it, it is common in hotlapping. Not only on Kyoto, also on Fern Bay (green, club, gold - watch those incredibly high curbs) and some other tracks. As long as the hotlap is valid, it is valid. As long as the suspension doesn't break and you can go on driving without problems, it is fine!
This behaviour really is in the instincts of a driver trying to go as fast as possible. Who is to judge whether it's not "noble" or not "righteous" to cut a certain chicane or to use every centimeter of track available?
The only judge can be HLVC, because none of us can really be the impartial arbitrator. There would always be controversies about what should be and what should not be...
It's basically the same in racing - which driver was in fault and caused the incident? Each participant will tell you otherwise, which is why you need a judge - or a jury.

As of this moment, HLVC says the lap is valid. That's all we can refer to. Everyone is free to use every centimeter of the track which is considered valid. Moral preconceptions aside - hotlapping is about going as fast as you possibly can. No compromises, just you, the car, the setup and the clock.

Imo, there are two ways to resolve this issue:
1.) fix HLVC (or the tracks) and make it more strict (and while we're at it, please make HLVC not register those strips of grass/gravel which can't possibly be used for cheating/cutting. Especially because tires can get dirty now and it almost never pays off to cut the track much.)
2.) establish an admin staff which checks every hotlap for validity and "racing ethics" before it will be accepted for the hotlap charts

I fully agree you shouldn't be intentionally smacking walls to brake faster (like sprint2), because that could be considered cheating. So could be button clutch, but there have been to many debates on this already.
However, using odd setups due to incomplete physics is not cheating. We are all using those partitially buggy and incomplete physics with its own dynamics and requirements.
We cannot stick to what applies to real life only, because LFS isn't real life (yet). LFS is LFS, it has its limitations. And within its limitations, you have to try to find out what works best.
Again: who is to judge which setup is ethically right or wrong? Using a high nose on the downforce cars - what exactly defines "high"? Will there be regulations on what the maximum height of the nose is and otherwise you will be accused of bug exploitation? We shouldn't make our lives harder than necessary. We should learn to live with the limitations of LFS until the next patch arrives.
No harm is done when we have equal conditions for everyone. As many of you say - all that matters is good racing. Doesn't matter if its a bobby car, a bicycle, a bucket rolling downhill or an FO8 with normal ride height or raised nose - as long as the conditions are equal and there's some fair competition.
If you can't detach yourself from your reality-focussedness in terms of setup or the nature of hotlapping, then fine - live with being slower and voluntarily placing yourself at a disadvantage. At least you've demonstrated how stubborn and true to your principles you can be :P

Honstly, he's a very lovely bundle of joy
Even though these "news" might delay S2's progress even more, this is the best thing that could happen for you and your family Scawen.
I personally like to see you all happy and well because after all, LFS is just a piece of software. There's more fundamental things to life, but you of all people should certainly know that by now, holding him in your arms
It certainly won't do anybody good to work themselves to death and neglect everything else that's there.

I wish you all the best. Enjoy his childhood while you can

Quote from thisnameistaken :Don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do? (subtle innuendoes follow, must be something inside!)

Big grin

That line of reasoning is exactly what I mean (if you'd been serious about that Cool ). For many people nowadays there isn't much left without drinking and smoking...

[OT]
Commenting on your allusions... well, it's just too obvious. I won't respond to that.

Other than LFS (), I love (in particular order Big grin) karting IRL, music, programming, webdesign, counting daisies in the sunshine, pondering over the nature of the universe... etc... and I'm soon to start oil painting :hyper:

Hope that's enough to spoil your image of biggie :P

Quote from Matrixi :I don't drink either. Tough life being a non-drinking finn, as 99% of friends go and get drunk whenever the chance, I see no point in doing so.

I prefer use my money on gas and go for a nice drive around winding roads. Smile

One more teetotaller here I've never smoked in my life. I've tried alcohol before, but not to the point of total extinction of the conciousness but only as much as needed to get a general idea what this is all about Wink Quite honestly I didn't like either the effect or the taste.
I agree being abstinent doesn't make life easier, going out with friends and such. But you can still have fun without. And if you're with the right people, it doesn't really matter anyway. Drinking/smoking (getting drunk :drunk: /stoned :hypnotize ) together is not the only thing you can do with friends. I'm under the impression that many young people nowadays are forgetting that... and it sometimes depresses me to see that some people can't come up with any better ideas for their lives than getting drunk on every possible occasion. I personally think it's just boring. If it makes them happy, let them. But definitely it's not for me.

You really have to make the choices you can live best with. It's all about your own definition of fun and enjoyment. Everyone has their own lifestyle and it's good the way it is.
The only thing that makes me sad is that there's only very few people with principles on this... so as a "teetotaller" you're in the minority. Unfortunately there are only very few kindred spirits -> :Handshake
