Quote from duke_toaster :Can't see how it's illegal, it's not being changed by the same input as the gear (pressing that switch).

Imagine the gear changing paddle split in two, consider the over-all size and position hasn't being changed and now imagine a hand pressing the "two" paddles at the same time just like it was pressing the one previously. Magic. How much effect that has though exactly and why aren't both McLaren drivers benefiting we won't know.

Quote from thisnameistaken :But I'm pleased with how close I got considering how drunk I was, and that I was typing in the dark...

Quote from STROBE :Based on your posts last night, I think you should get drunk more often.

And based on photographs posted it's safe to assume that keeping the lights off is a good idea as well.

Quote from Jakg :Stupid age rules - at 16, i can have sex and get married. But i cant make or watch porn 'till i'm 18...? I can drive a bike at 16, and a car at 17, but I can't operate a conveyor belt at work 'till i'm 18

That's an interesting progression actually:

16 - sex, marriage, bikes
17 - sex, marriage, bikes, cars
18 - sex, marriage, bikes, cars, porn viewing and creating, conveyor belts

Quote from SecondSkin :but it would be better to vibrate (or more to be more realistic, stop vibrating) when a wheel locks up

Until LFS can simulate the brake failure that would result in a brake pedal vibrating, or add older generation ABS systems to cars, I think you are safe to disconnect the vibration motors all together.

As for the iVibe - the data requested was stuff like "what sort of surface is each wheel on" and such which is totally irrelevant to actual realtime calculated force feedback.

Apparently Massa's excuse (although not specifically offered on the subject of the overtaking maneuver) was that he had brake problems in the later stages. However he didn't really try to minimize the damage with the switchback attempt he went for - that was a really bad move.

The truth of the matter is that Hamilton really just did it all right this time. Second truth is that Piquet seemed like he had no idea if this was some joke played on him - I swear he was looking for a candid camera every now and again - I guess he can retire now with an f1 podium on his record.

Neither did her mother initially it seems - he had to point out for her that she likely just poked her kid in the eye with her folder. I like how the reporter with the microphone shows up on the scene from the background: it's like it's some CGI re-enactment done in front of a green screen.

Quote from woodymcruk :asking for somthing and stating your disabled theres nothing wrong with that

Indeed there's nothing wrong with it. It can easily be phrased as:

Could you please add another oval track? Being a disabled person I find it easier to drive on ovals and would greatly appreciate it.

However, what was said was:

Can you add an oval track? If you don't add ovals it's a discrimination against us people with disabilities because it's easier for us to drive on them so if you don't add them you are just ignore us disabled people like you always do.

That's what wound people up - not popps stating his disability.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :I bought the DVD of this film based on this thread, and I love it. The whole film is very interesting, ruined a bit by the annoying music, but its very interesting, and the twist at the end is amazing.

Also the acting was a tad on the weak side. More so for specific actors - which is bad for a theatrical. Pity because the script had potential, if only the actors could deliver the payload properly.

I think the basis of the problem (the problem being: this endless stupid debate as seen in this thread, other threads, other forums, discussions on TV, in the street, in bars and cafeterias) is the recent illusion the existence of organizations like the UN and certain conventions have pulled off.

What ever happened to good ole "we're bigger, stronger and we don't really need an excuse, so you're going down"?

Who, apart from people with lots of time in their hands and not enough balls to scratch, cares if they have a valid "reason" or whatever the crap? As if suddenly in 60 or so years the way humanity conducts its self-destructive games for thousands of years has changed...

Oppose it - sure - just don't try to find a "snag" or a "hole" in the reasoning as if it's some high-level philosophical matter: it's just ****ing apes with projectile firing apparatuses instead of sharp sticks for ****'s sake - that's what it boils down to.

And that's my anti-argument argument.

There's another similarity as well: Tristan's thread was based on erroneous intelligence while this one is doing loops around much the same.

Quote from migf1 :It's much better to experiment with road cars (the UFR for example).

The UFR is not actually a road car - but any car with an h-gate gearbox would be a better contender to spot the time advantage than a sequential.

Quote from danowat :I remember when I started to cycle to work my "sit bones" took about 2 weeks to become accustomed to a saddle, I imagine it's gonna take longer as I now have a lot less ass padding!!!

Actually you might find that it works the other way around - you got less weight to push you on the saddle, plus there's less tender tissue there to be squished. Also, on a road bike your weight distribution (due to position) should be such that you are basically just propping yourself on the saddle and handlebars, not so much using them as a chair and something to lean on since alot of your weight support will ideally be done by your legs on the pedals.

Also, standing on the pedals often enough for 10-20 seconds also helps.

Which brings to mind - chin-ups and some trapezius exercises will come in handy because initially, until you adjust the bike properly, you might experience upper back and neck soreness (although you might be ok in that department since as I recall you're a biker - they're pretty much the same muscles that work out whenever you brake hard).

Quote from traxxion :Ok, that helps!

What kind of pain is it though? If it's from rubbing/chafing then the cream would probably help - as would proper cleaning of the chamois and reducing the quantity of hair in the nether regions. If it's a "bruising" pain in your sitbones then there isn't much you can do apart from finding a saddle that provides better support and gradually building up your cycling kilometers.

Quote from mrbogeyman :Currently just got a Fizik Arione, which has yet to be properly tested.

I'd been a Selle Italia fan for some time with their "classic" Flite saddles until I got an Arione - somehow it feels as comfy as the Brooks on my other bike. I particularly like that it's mostly flat on top, so even if you're pulling up rpms and riding the front part it's not trying to change your sexual preferences.

Quote from traxxion :Lol, damn right! Main reason I'm going for a Tiagra triple now! At least I hope they're a bit better!

Haven't seen those to be honest - on my gf's bike that had a triple Sora I changed the chainset to a compact one and it's running pretty smooth (admittedly the front derailleur from the triple wasn't that good initially but since I'm a cheapskate instead of buying a new one I modded it a bit with a dremel and some creative thinking).

Quote from traxxion :Any ideas on something else I can try?

There must be something with your position on the bike - even after a 400km brevet the only part that didn't hurt (and not because it was numb either :P) was my butt.

Quote from danowat :Second hand would be good, but again, really need some sort of checklist of things I would need.

Things off the top of my head that will likely be needed if you get a second hand bike:

- make sure it's the proper size (in case that didn't sink in the first time around) - for a quick check-up on the size you need check out the "fit system" here: www.wrenchscience.com or here: www.canyon.de

- chain
- tyres & tubes
- cables and jackets for the gearshifts and the brakes
- brakepads
- a stem - likely the previous owner will have it set up to his/her preference so you'll probably need a different one
- servicing the wheel's ball bearings - especially if it was ridden in the wet
- a bottom bracket - especially if it was ridden in the wet
- a saddle - for much the same reason as the stem

Quote from danowat :I don't even know what that means

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Giant_SCR_4/5360031621/

The amount of the big cogs in the front - where the cranks are. That one has a double, so it should be ok. In the triple ver of the same company (Shimano) the angle of the chain causes quite erratic shifting and on occassion can lead to chainsuck if you're backpedalling absent-mindedly.

Quote from danowat :The normal budget, cheap as possible!!!!.

I have found a Giant SCR 4 for £297, any good?

As long as you get it with a double chainset - the Shimano Sora triple drivetrain sucks balls.

Quote from danowat :but i haven't got the first idea of what to look for in a road bike

The most important thing of all: make sure it's the proper fit. On a properly sized and adjusted bicycle you shouldn't even feel it underneath you. Everything else depends on budget really.

Don't fall for the marketing mumbo jumbo (easily identified if you go through a few cycling-related websites/e-shops). Since you want it for time trialing avoid anyone that tells you things like "this component that's slightly flat provides better aerodynamics" - any upright bicycle is by construction as aerodynamic as the shape and position of the rider (which again brings us back to "proper fit").
