Time for some Spanish:

Salvador - based on the life of Salvador Puig Antich, a Spanish anarchist executed under the Franco regime.

Celda 211 - prison action/drama done well.

Quote from majod :The Tree Of Life
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478304/

at first i was like wtf? but then it made sense....it was really good

Got to see it the other night. Nice imagery, the "story" and symbolism in it is pretty straightforward but rather abstracted, the score was good (although it got overly dramatic/epic at bits building up on crescendos too often), the audio of dialogues (mostly the internal ones) kinda annoyed me with all the whispering half-sentences and so on.

As an experience it didn't provoke any sort of emotion in me despite being rather relaxed for the viewing and not knowing anything about the film. I think it could've of benefited from more tangible storytelling as the actors looked lost or dazed for the most part - especially Sean Penn had his classic shell-shocked expression permanently on. Perhaps it was because the characters were indeed exposed at key moments of their life to shock and had epiphanies of sorts but that didn't get transferred to me as I had no time to build a connection to the characters before being bombarded by their internal struggle with abstracted concepts.

Quote from Rappa Z :He's like Danica Patrick. Drives like shite, complains about the car and everyone still talks about him.

Quote from RiseAgainstMe! :And they both are only in the top levels of the sport because they happen to be minorities (in racing).

And they both got a decent break by saying "go daddy".

Quote from majod :(I have no idea why IMDB says Deruzu uzara when it's clearly Дерсу Узала)

Japanese phonetic spelling. Same reason the japanese original title for Battle Royale is "Batoru rowaiaru" and Audition's is "Ôdishon" to name a couple that pop to mind.

Four Lions - had some good laughs with this one - there were some Buñuel-esque moments of surrealism to it.

Quote from tristancliffe :Lewis's post race interview was funny. He was clearly upset, but the grown ups had told him to play nicely...

Also BUT just breezed passed both of them in the same lap once he caught up. That must've of stung.

Pity the director didn't focus a bit on what was going on in the midfield chaos, I kept seeing several cars within 0.5sec of each other.

Quote from thisnameistaken amidst other nonsense about some car something something broken car something :a festival last weekend, they have 18 hours of rain the first day, about 12 hours of rain the second day

Ah, the world-famous British Festival. Did they get to appreciate varying levels of downpour as the poster says or was that just hype to get people from the League of Drizzle Enthusiasts to attend?

Quote from PMD9409 :Anyone have comments on the LFS replay of the same situation?

Yes. It's not the same situation.
Also, keep in mind the known problems with LFS's current tyre model - which actually tend to be highlighted in such situations.

Looks good for pre-alpha stuff - graphics-wise the colours are out of whack (especially the sky), but I guess that'll get fine-tuned at some point. Would be interesting to see how it handles - I gave Piboso's kart sim a spin recently, on merit of his gpbikes project being as good as it is, but couldn't get the steering/FFB dialed in properly.

Looking at the feature list it looks like an impressive endeavor. Well done for pulling it off and all the best for future developments.

Quote from Forbin :Frankly, I'm a bit annoyed by the emphasis racing sims place on emulating real life, namely real life cars, real life tracks, real life procedures (e.g. safety car). All that does is limit creativity and diminish the purity of the experience. You have this totally open world where anything is possible. Just apply proper physics so everything feels right, and go from there.

That works when you want to create something new. If you want to simulate then, by definition, you imitate real world features. I don't care about real cars, real tracks, etc - but putting forward the safety hazards as an example like you did left it open to debate as to what features (graphical or otherwise) that are already incorporated into LFS would be necessary.

Personally "sirens", strobes and cherry tops are not what I'd care to see. If some league wants to implement a safety car feature it's up to them to do it - just use a skin that stands out and you're set.

Quote from The Very End :But to easen the mood, I'll do us a favour, here: some nice boobies

I was going to say that's hopefully a mid-bounce action shot but apparently it was a pre-ban one. The image size was very bandwidth and layout friendly though.

"No, but I know exactly where I am," replied Heisenberg.

Quote from PMD9409 :Sadly a car going under 20mph initially shouldn't have enough inertia to rotate that much.

You'd be referring to momentum. However you're not taking into consideration the engine's inertia which keeps the tyres spinning during most of the motion (the clutch is engaged a little bit before the car comes to a stop). To be honest, the specific video seems perfectly normal to me, I've done much the same in a normal car with road tyres, it doesn't take much steering lock or actual speed as long as you get the rear tyres to lose traction.

Quote from Forbin :Does sim racing have any of the same safety hazards as real racing?

In that sense, a racing simulator does not require driver models much less driver models wearing helmets and suits, properly modeled race-car cockpits with roll-cages and fire extinguishers, tracks with tyrewalls, sand/gravel traps, etc. All it needs it's a rudimentary fictional vehicle that obeys simulated laws of physics as accurately as possible and two parallel lines that define a circuit with complete disregard for simulating the experience of racing, not caring if race tracks actually look like actual race tracks or race cars actually look like actual race cars or that racing situations resemble actual racing situations.

Quote from http://en.espnf1.com/belgium/motorsport/story/57654.html :"After watching the replay, I realise it was my fault today 100%," Hamilton said. "I didn't give Kobayashi enough room though I thought I was past. Apologies to Kamui and to my team. The team deserves better from me."

Quote from http://en.espnf1.com/canada/motorsport/story/51493.html :HAM: After I fell back behind Jenson, he outbraked himself into the final chicane and got a poor exit, so I was able to get a good run on him. It felt to me like I was halfway alongside him down the pit straight - but, as he probably hadn't spotted me, he continued moving across on the racing line. There was no room for me, so I hit the wall.

BUT: As far as the incident with Lewis is concerned, I couldn't see a thing behind me except a blur of Vodafone rocket-red, but that could have been my rear wing: obviously, it's the same colour as Lewis's car. I moved to the left, which is the racing line, then I felt a bang.

Seeing the video of the BUT vs HAM crash it's clear HAM wasn't halfway alongside him (as he said it only felt like he was): he actually barely had his nose next to BUT's rear wheel. At the distance they were at in all probability BUT indeed only saw his own rear wing.

So, why is everyone still debating all this?
