Since we are all talking about shift lights, I think the RPM LEDs should have a smaller range to them.
For example, in the new FOX dashboard the first LED comes on at 5000rpm. The power band doesn't even start until 6500rpm (red line is 7500). The result of this is that most of the LEDs stay on for the whole race and are useless, and you only have about 4 LEDs to use for predicting when to shift.
I already made a post in the Improvement Suggestion section, and attached a video of how the LEDs are setup in an F1 car (just an example) Does anyone else agree with me? http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=45014
If you watch a F1 onbaord videos, the RPM lights only show about the last 500 rpm before the limiter, but in LFS it shows about 1/2 the rev range, making it much harder to predict when to shift.
All the single seater cars, especially the FOX since Y30 should have adjustable rev lights. I know that you can predict when to shift by the sound of the engine, but this will add some more realism to LFS
I have attached a video to show you what I mean. Look at the rev LEDs on the steering wheel.
What you do to fix it is this: You delete the old version of LFS that you have. Then you download the latest version (Patch Y) from here http://www.lfs.net/?page=downloads
Setupgrid is the better layed out site, but the lack of fast setups is a let down. I usually download most of the setups for a combo from both sites, try all of them and see what a like, then modify the setup to last for race distance. I find that most of the time I end up choosing a setupfield set.
LFS is extremely CPU dependent. A 9800pro is only a few % slower than a 6600GT and I get constant 120+ fps in Hot Lapping mode (1280x1024 4xAA 16xAF) with my 6600GT.
it makes less than 10% difference to my fps if I use 0 AA or 4x AA. So basically with today's graphics cards the fps is only limited by the CPU.
Pretty impossible imo. Even LX6 is like 1 second faster than RAC/FZ5. If you balance them on 1 track they will be 5+ seconds different on another track.
I just can't stand the ISI physics. all the ISI game feel fake and rubbish. the forcefeedback sucks too.
I have tried:
GTR2
GTL
RACE07
rFactor
In comparison LFS and Richard Burns Rally feel so much better. I wish I did like GTR2 and I have reinstalled it a number of times in an attempt to like it (I love the tracks), but every time the rubbish physics put me off.
I am guilty of using locked diffs, but only in some cars
Cars I use locked diffs: XFG, XRG, FXO, XFR, UFR, FXR (RB4, FZR and XRR sometimes)
Cars I always use LSD: XRT FZ5 RAC LX4 LX6 MRT FOX FBM FO8 BF1
So basically the RWD cars feel so horrible to drive with a locked diff that I use a clutch pack, with the exception of the GTRs and XRG.
The FWD and AWD cars on the other hand feel so much more stable on the brakes with locked diffs, and thats the main reason I use them. I consider braking to be one of my strongest points in my driving.
If you remove locked diffs, everyone will just use a clutch pack with 800Nm preload - just as stupid. The only way to fix the locked diff 'exploit' is to improve the tyre physics.
^No, the female drives is shorter therefore her hed sits further back, as per the picture that victor attached. Try chaning to female drive and you will see that the view is slightly different in most cars.
Negitave MIP should NOT be used in conjunction with AF. Thats all you need to say, and LFS already explains that when you click the "?" next to the MIP sliders.
However, I do find it annoying that you have keep mouse still in order to see the F9-F12 display. Maybe it would be possible to move those up so they don't overlap with the replay controls?
The biggest pluses for me when I joined a team were:
Learning about setups. Talking on TeamSpeak and learnign how to adjust settings really helped my learn how to set up a car properly. I'm still learning new setup tricks every week, but this has definitly improved me at LFS.
Having admin on a popular server. This means I can chance the track and cars etc, making the game more fun for me and everyone else on the server.
I play LFS to have fun. Joining a team has increased the fun factor in LFS for me. Talking to team members on TeamSpeak or sharing setups. Racing togther with clean drivers. All these things improve my LFS experience.
