The one place a manual clutch comes into its own, is in assisting you on powering out of a corner. You can slam the throttle to the floor, and slip the clutch slightly to aid traction if you are having trouble getting power down. I think basically its personal preference. I prefer sequential. But each to their own. There is nothing in game that penalises one setup over another. Its designed for equality, only difference is driver skill.

Learn this lesson once. The easy/hard setups are rubbish. Don't even bother with them. Download the complete WR setups from Setup Field (links on lfs site), and use one of those. After that, its all practise. Oval is great, but really its wind in, wind out the wheel, nail the apex's, and keep it flat. The skill most ppl have the most trouble learning is learning to use the least turn on the wheel (to minimise drag from steering tyres). After that, its nail the braking point so you always nail the apex, that equals fast exit speed. Remember the axiom, slow in, fast out. The exit is much more important than the entry, particularly on important corners (onto straights). Last skill u have to learn is throttle control, and getting on the throttle earlier and earlier.

Practise those skills, and your times will tumble very fast Also, download Analyse for Speed (LFS site), and do some hotlaps, output the data of ur most average lap, and compare it to the output data of a WR hotlap. You'll learn alot how fast guys get fast, much more than u can from replay.

After that, its all practise Good luck.

Its not so much the speed you enter the corner, but more the minimum speed you get in the corner (mid corner) that matters. You should have a min speed there around 112-115 or so. The way to get really fast in any rear wheel drive car is to learn how to throttle steer. That means to use the wheel to turn in, and only power to control the steering thru the corner. At the extreme, the wheel is straightened once turn in is achieved, n thr handles rest of steering. Not easy to do. Biggie is great at it in LX4-6.

This is sposed to be a race simulation. I think its about time you got rid of the big messages (Yellow flag, Blue flag etc) and actually placed some models around the track that waved the correct flag for the proper event.

And did any of you ever think a race simulation needs a Checkered Flag at the finish??? Its about time it had one.

Small thing I know, but without those basic things, it has a more arcade feel, regardless of the realism we know it possesses in car.

Another obvious thing missing, is crowds. Its about time the sim got these basic things, partially animated crowds, waving the odd banner/flag wouldn't add too much to the f/r load (animations could be dialed back nyway in options). But it should be there.

Although it has everything a race sim should have, missing these few basic things, leaves wins feeling a little hollow.

Another thing that would be nice, but probably not possible is a podium. Mostly for SP, as I don't think ny1 would want it in MP.

I mostly race online, but occasionally I like to race ai when I want a long race.

Some things I'd love to see, n I agree with all above.

1. Get the AI to learn to use higher gear and little throttle to get off the grass when they run on it, instead of nosing into a wall n applying full throttle.

2. I'm sick to death of the AI not knowing of my presence on the track.

3. Give them variable braking points/lines etc.

4. Please, they should know at least the basics of overtaking.
We'd all love for them to learn off the player, but I don't think thats very likely, if possible. However even a total first time driver would understand more than the AI.

5. Pitlane use is a given, as is fuel selection and hopefully setup choice (if it can't create its own, then have it choose one suitable from players list.

6. Some should be trained fully, say first 5, then vary it back to last 10 who are noob ai.

7. Should know how to avoid accidents (not make stupid moves), and how to avoid crashed cars.

8. last of all should obey flags.

Honestly, the AI totally piss me off, I'd rather race without them than with them at the moment, cause they are totally unaware of the player.

Big plus 1 for me. My crap vid card cripples my frame rate 23fps when I'm alone... you don't want to know wot its like on grid. lol... I'd love to be able to toggle off everything outside the track, including buildings. Especially for South City.

Really. I think its a pointless debate. There's no way the ring is going to be added. Its just too much work. However I'd love a really good fantasy one as a variation around an existing track such as bathurst. I'd kill for bathurst. Its such a technical track, specially up on the mount.

My other wish would be an open sweeper style open road over varying heights, with the odd tight corner, enclosed into a track of about 4-5k. I think thats possibly doable. To expect any longer, I think is dreaming.

I'd love to drive the ring, sure. But I'd only want to do it once. After that there's no point. Can't race there; can't do anything, and as has been stated before; its impossible to get all the details right so silence all the critics. Best avoid the whole problem, n do something seriously cool. Open road circuit.

ok... well If I was you, I'd take Gentlefoots offer. He's very very good driver in fox on as2 best place to learn it.

Basically, first corner, brake at 75m, min speed 85 or so, be gentle with throttle till u learn to use it (bit of counter steering as u add power does wonders), chicane is flat out. Final corner is brake 2nd sign on left, again min speed 85-90 or so, n gentle with power till u learn to use it.
Sound problems

Hey,

I was trying to get my mic working with my headphones. It wouldn't work. Eventually I got it working, but I lost the ability to hear sounds from any source except the mic. ie I can hear myself in mic, but nothing else.

The system is AMD Athlon xp 2ghz, n the sound device is the VIA technologies built in sound blaster. The only thing I changed in the sound options in control panel (in XP) was I set it to headphones rather than desktop speakers. Since then, sound doesn't work. Doesn't matter if I change it back or not. All the control panel/sound options are unchanged, still it won't work. I've checked the plugs, they are all fine. I even reinstalled windows repairing the old xp. Nothing works.

Can anyone suggest any ideas to get my sound working again please?

Oh not sure if I mentioned in it my prvt msg Bob.

The test controls you added don't seem to help. Although the window is smaller; sides still off-screen; the graphs are still only partly shown. For instance, the springs view shows only half of the 4th graph and larger graphs show less. But I think leave that; and get the heart of the prog down first.

See pvt msg.

Anothing thing I think is very important is the quality of the screen.

On high end monitors it wouldn't be a problem. But on low end CRT's it terrible and causes strange mental effects that I get no where else (like motion sickness - something I've never suffered from). Its the graininess and flickering of distance track/objects/background. It would be nice if you could add some sort of smoothing, or gradiated smoothing out beyond 100 metres.

I think its vitally important a game be sensitive to medical effects it may cause. Especially with the more serious forms of epilepsy. I have no doubts LFS could cause that. No other games cause these effects in me. Why is it important for you? Cause if someones child had a severe epilepsy attack while playing your game; you could be sued; though I don't know how such a case would turn out. But prevention is better I think. lol..

Just so you know; I never had any of these problems in W or V patches.

I solved my consistancy problems very simply. I just set out on two 60 lap races back to back, and focused not on getting fast times, but getting close to my fast averages, rather than close to my pb. Fixed the problem; and fixed a crashing problem I was having at one point on as2. Since then; I've just gotten faster and faster.

Yeh its wierd. I had no problems from about a week ago. Now, I can't stand more than one 8 lap race. I'm sure its from all the distance stuff flickering n bouncing around. Motion sickness? Hmm might be; though I've never suffered from that in my life, either in learning to fly, or sail or bikes or cars. But it does sound like it. I did mess with the refresh rate but it didn't help. I have an old 17 inch crt . I didn't realise there is a difference in LCD's aside from quality of image. Have to keep that in mind when I get one.

As for bad reefers lol... don't think the problems there lol. Might have been long time ago. lol

Looking away does help. It only happens in LFS. Not in any other game, but I also noticed it today while watching the Tour de France. When the camera was moving all over the place on the back of the bike; I had to look away. Sounds like motion sickness to me too. lol Gnats. Have to have a natter to my doctor. I will not go without lfs. lol

Thanks guys.

Hi,

Ever since patch X came out, I've been having wierd mental effects from the game. It makes me feel very woosy/dizzy and difficult to focus. So I thought I'd ask n see if anyone else is experiencing this?

I doubt its the game, but thought I'd check lol...

Can you please change the race split times from showing everyones splits, to just showing splits to leader, car ahead, and the car behind? I really don't need to know ny others, and on big races, it obscurs the apex on some hairpins. Or, at least give us the option to do this.

Thanks

Ven

[Edit] Obviously this is not a problem in small races. But in big races it is a real problem. Especially on AS2 where it obscures your apex. Its even worse after the race and the results shows up. A better way would be to give us an option to control how much of it we want to see; and a hotkey to turn it off.

With your wheel, good settings are controller set to 180, wheel compensation set to 1, smooting set to 0.

As mentioned; don't get sucked into late braking. The most important thing is to nail the apex. If you miss it, you stuff up the whole corner. If you nail it, you can get on throttle sooner, and get a much faster exit. Find a braking point that guarantees you hit the apex as stable as possible. Next thing to start working on, is learning how to get on the throttle AT the apex.

if u replaced ur hard disk recently.. that might be doiung it if its slow... makes mine stutter too. I'm getting new one.

I have the same problem. I have absolutely identified the culprit. Its my hard disk. Its too slow. Its an older one, so I'm going to update it. On my old one which was much better, I never had this problem. With this one, I do. I tried everything to eliminate the stutter, but nothing worked. I finally noticed it happens even in windows, or in any program. Its the hard disk. Update it to a faster one.

For those with preload problems in Aston Club FOX. I just fixed mine. I set preload to 80, and now the car is back exactly the way it was before. The default setting is way too high for the fox.

As for the XFG, use the clutch lsd, and set lock to 80, preload to 500 or there abouts... it works a treat. (Thanks Rusty)

Can we please have individual settings for preload? Currently it only allows blocks of 10. My ideal preload set is between 70-80, and currently I can't set it to that. Allow single digit advance please. What you could do, is have two arrows either side. One for single digit advance and the other for greater, say 10; for those who are still finding it. Speeds things up.

To make it work with S2. If you have a router, you have to do two things. In WAN config, give a new IP to the lan in the stated range. Then in Network configurations in xp, give ur puter the same IP. You'll need to run
IPConfig from dos and enter the submask, DNS etc also.

Portforwarding.com tells you how to do this for your particular router.

Hi,

When I first got the wheel, I set it to have separate brake and throttle. It showed an X, Y, and a 0 & 1 axis. 4 in total. I could have them separate. After a month or so, I only get two axis; an X & Y, and I have to have throttle and brake combined, which pisses me off.

Does anyone know a way to fix this so I can get back to separate throttle and brake?

I get the same thing too.. However it comes in various guises.

Can't get guest info
Can't get track data
Can't get some messegers

I'd love a solution to this. I was having guest info problems just before patch x, but only a few weeks before. Before that i was fine. I figured it was something up with the master server, cause it doesn't seem to matter what server I join, how many are in it. Jeez I even get it connnecting to my own server on my own computer. lol

Love to see a solution.

I've had the same problem but only in the chicane entry/exit. So I did some experiments. Aston Club, fox. Using DIKS set. (used to love it).
My pb is 101.09. With X I'm lucky to do 101.5 at my best with Diks now.

Diks clutchlsd settings are: Power: 56% and Coast 65%

First I tried 0 preload. It gave understeer through exit on first half of chicane forcing a missed apex on exit of 2nd half. As u know default setting was 140.

Next I set it to 280, and tried that. It had a slight oversteer through first parts exit, and did feel a lil better.

Next, I figured it might be a power/coast problem. So I set preload back to 140. So I dropped Power to 46%, and had an understeer problem in the same entry/exit. So I reset it back to 56, and tried Coast down to 55%, and had a very slight oversteer.

Some more fiddling, and I should be able to sort it. Of course if you want an instant fix, just up the wing. Or fiddle with preload around 220 or something... Personally, I think more power less coast will fix it. So thats next to test.
