Quote from spankmeyer :If you can get away from low-end, only display worth buying is Dell 24-incher and up. That is if you pull a lucky number and get an IPS-panel...

The old Dell 2407 was the one to 'get lucky' with for an IPS panel. But they have their new 2407-HC out, and rest assured it IS an IPS panel +many refinements. I bought it .

Strange thing is, when I was unpacking it, the monitor stand had some checkmarks from the factory for what model it was intended to be used on... there was an empty checkmark that said "2408" :banghead: lol. Perhaps they will have yet another model.

Two small windows of 960 width? That is plenty, and I am a web designer who uses two such windows side by side because they both will fit a fairly standard width for design. Even if I choose not to do that, what ever happened to just alt+tabbing? Because of that, I don't understand why having 2 monitors is really needed. I used to have such a setup, but I found it useless, and just bonus e-penis to be honest. About 10% of the time I found myself using the 2nd monitor for the added benefit of just putting Winamp on the other side, and/or my browser window in the 2nd screen if I made any changes to a website I was working on. When instead, I found myself wanting to work on ONE single screen and just use alt+tab to see my changes. It's not so hard to do that.

There is a real common misconception for most users out there that having a 2nd screen will make you develop faster and have 'more room' for other windows. Bullshit I say. It really is down to someone having claustrophobia of windowed apps layered on top of one another so they cannot see them all at the same time. Personal preference and gripes in my opinion. Having a 2nd screen does not make you any more professional than that of someone with just one screen.... nor would you save any time having a multiple screens with most common applications of design.

Now if you are a game programmer or video editor, I can see the use for a second screen. Naturally those job titles would make a 2nd screen a requirement, however it doesn't make using only one screen obsolete.

Hahah a recent funny quote(s) from Lewis Hamilton on F1Technical.net:

Quote :Will you use the McLaren simulator to prepare for the race in Brazil?
"There are no plans to use it but can if I want to."

Why would you not use it?
"I only use it if I come into the McLaren Technology Centre for development work on the car. I don’t really gain an advantage physically or mentally from it. I’ve played Brazil many times on the Playstation. I play it with my brother and I’ve always won!"

Quote from Gunn :Winamp has always been full of bugs and bloat. If it doesn't work well with your LFS it is doubtful that LFS is to blame. Have you tried an older version of Winamp?

I really haven't seen any bad bugs for the 7+ years I've been using it. If you are into skins, you will notice weird behavior with the player, but nothing related to its audio playback. I've always used the classic version anyways.

Krammeh, I haven't noticed any problem running winamp and/or shoutcast while playing LFS or any other intensive game. Never install any plugins (like audio effects or whatever) for the player if you have those. Also check to make sure the priority levels of Winamp and/or LFS are set to normal.

It could all come down to a problem with your system or soundcard .

I believe supers were taken off the standard road cars simply to achieve a more realistic feel that one might expect from a road car. If the cars had supers on, I bet they would be pulling 1g in the corners or more, and they would just be cornering at unbelievable speeds. I say this because before when LFS used supers on all cars, most people argued that the smaller roadcars were cornering too fast.

Kind of a decision on the devs part to have some variation in feel as far as I can see. And I like the way it is now really. I know some people argue that the road cars should have slicks on them as well... and while that would be fun, I just think it sends the wrong message when it comes to LFS and its roadcar physics. Because many driving sim fans yearn to find a fun and enjoyable roadcar simulation (with the feel of a stock car), and if everyone was using grippier tires, it just wouldn't feel right.

I'd much rather have slight race-spec versions of all the roadcars to use, that would be great fun. Like some amateur touring/cup car models with slight more power and grip.

Get an LCD with 1920x1200 NATIVE resolution... you won't be dissapointed. Because something of that caliber will definitely be a quality screen. Anything less will be a cheap consumer purchase with no real good value in terms of resolution and features. If you put forth the money for a decent high-resolution screen, that pretty much takes care of a lot of your questions. You don't need to worry about stretching because the screen should take care of that, and/or if you have an Nvidia card, there is an option to let the card to its own scaling, and use the proper aspect ratio (eg When I play BF2, it only supports 1600x1200, so I have it give black bars on the side and get the ratio correct, or else BF2 looks nasty when stretched).

And this narrows down your options too, because there aren't many good top screens that will have that native resolution.

I run a new model 24" Dell (2407-HC) at that res, and other friends I know just love 1920x1200 or higher. I was used to 1600x1200 with my old CRT, and the added width is really nice to browse the web and watch TV at the same time with picture-in-picture . A friend let me try his 2500x1600 screen, and that is massive, but felt like overkill for both size and the idea of an empty wallet.

I cannot stand LCD screens that are 1680x1050 native or less, that resolution is crap if you are into doing graphics or need plenty of workspace. Buy something new with much higher res, those old low-res screens are at the bottom of the market really. The Samsung 223BW is at 1680x1050, and for a 22" screen, that is really low. Not worth it.

private skin.

Is it just me, or has that skin taken elements off of Zachary Zoomy's FXO FedEx skin???? http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=565177#post565177

The point is NOT to use a lap based race. Again, read earlier posts for reasons why. And the only idea we have to try and fix any errors that may happen if teams get disconnected is with a /laps command that is only in 10 lap intervals. It doesn't work out. Setting the laps to 250 isn't a solution. So please read earlier posts and you'll see that setting laps has its consequences.

The race is 6 hours.

Read earlier posts. We simply cannot do lapped based races, regardless of this lap change command. Easiest and error free way of going about this race is with a 6 hour timeframe. It's not like that is going to be any different from the 1000km race distance, probably the same expected laps (or less) with typical average laptime (90 secs)... not counting pitstops.

The rear resembles a Celica... at least that is what I said. (Has a very high sharp cutoff on the rear/side)

Put those two car pics together and you have this drawing . FXO should embody a very European style in my opinion, or else this concept just strikes me as Japanese made.

Quote from aoun :Do you live in Australia?

Why would he say such a thing if he wasn't?

Not like this is uncommon anywhere else in motorsports....

We get all the Ford vs. Chevy vs. Pontiac pissing contests here with Nascar , when it really means nothing like Gunn said. I'd much rather support a driver than whichever brand of car he/she is driving. Put a champion in either of those cars, I am sure it won't make much of a difference.

Quote from Hoellsen :So as it looks right now, we need to go with a 6h race.

Yes, just to repeat this so every team knows this, please think your strategy through for a 6 hour race at SO Long now. (And Phil, edit the first post to say 6 hr)

The 1000km race would've been between 5-6 hours anyways, but now it will definitely be 6 hours, which is only a little bit longer than expected. Also expect to see this race's logo and new graphics packs ready by this weekend.

This is most likely NOT a G25 competitor at all. I mean come on, a lap mounted wheel with cheezy side supports?

Definitely for a Porsche enthusiast/fan, but NOT someone looking to have a great wheel for a simulation imo. Small plastic paddles reminiscent of old crappy Logitech models, connected bar mount for the shifter???, and the leather which is nice, but the actual wheel is just all plastic... and I bet it would feel heavy.

Yeah LFS should keep the retro old designs it has now, but I agree that we need some more modern looking cars added on the grid, not redesigned. Nothing looks very recent as far as I can see .

As for this newer FXO model, I don't think it fits the kind of shape an FXO would have at all. You gave it more of an aggressive high-stance crossover AWD-Hyundai style car, rather than something that is a sporty FWD coupe. Rear is too much like the Celica anyways, which is a car that looks like poo.

I do like the front end though.

Well yeah.

Though, the tracker would be keeping track of the real leader's laps, but ingame online, you would really have to wait for the drivers in 2nd place... or whoever has been on there without a disconnect. I understand what you mean. And if this is indeed an issue, I think the only way to control it is to keep track of the real leader's laps via the tracker, and then stop the race once he completes them --- also assuming the tracker could have a cap on however many laps needs to be completed.

If the tracker had a cap for 248 laps or something, it would stop tracking after the leader finishes that distance (and let everyone finish the lap they were on). The only thing is, people might keep racing and it could affect other people on the track that need to finish... who knows. AND it wouldn't be a proper way of ending the race in the server (text wouldn't turn orange, and the server would think the race isn't over), that is just unusual.

Quote from Belain :its been mentioned already somewhere that they will calculate the laps. So according to lfs.net So_Long is 2.5 miles long so that makes it 4.02336 kilometers.

1000 km / 4.02336 km = 248,5 laps.
I guess the server will then be set to 248 / 249 laps (something around that)

But what just got into my mind is...what if the leader is a lap or 2 ahead of everyone else and then suffers a disconnect / shift+p then everyone would have to do more laps till anyone on the server finishes the 248/249 laps. Maybe we got to work with the tracker all the time during the race to get a proper finish. So whenever the leader hits the 248/249 laps in the Tracker everyone may complete their lap and then its finished...without having to care if someone _on the server_ finishes all the laps.

Hmmm interesting thought. I just typed something really long here, but it is too confusing. We'll discuss it as admins. Because I do see a strange thing that could happen maybe. It might change to a 6 hour race if this is an issue.

I am sure it was discussed briefly in some other thread, but forgot where. The class markings will be ready for the next race, maybe ready by this weekend even, along with some new logos to use. That should leave 2-3 weeks of skin preparation before the race.

This time the templates will be in 2048 and 1024 sizes. We encourage some teams to try and submit a 2048 skin, because they would be perfect for any special renders we may need. But as always, 1024 is fine if that is all you have.

We were only overworked on the first race because some admins were absent AND the fact that it was a 12 hour race . This next race will be fine.

Quote from Dru :

do you really want to admin review every single little thing that happens in an MoE race without at least the 2 teams discussing it in IRC first like the rest of them do?

He already answered this: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=566130#post566130

If there is a situation that needs another opinion from the suspected team, we do that. However, if there are obvious mistakes from a team being protested by another team, giving the suspected team a penalty takes care of things a lot faster.

Points system will be under discussion with the admins. Sorry for the old list, but it is best for us to see how the points system should be formulated after this first race.

From what I can see, XRR and FZR in GT1 are quite even, and the same goes for XRR and FXR in GT2. The one remaining FXR in GT1 probably needs a handicap with points, but not much.

Well the race is now over, and the results at the moment are being processed through the tracker into a timetable. For now, here are the unofficial race results, a few positions MIGHT be subject to change, but every penalty and lap correction was fixed well before the race ended. We are just going to double check everything.

Congratulations to Mercury Racing Team for the first GT1 class (+overall) win of the season, and their first ever win in MoE. Well done PM and SK with your podium positions.

Congratulations to CoRe Racing Team for the first GT2 win of the season, and their first ever race in MoE. Excellent job XFR and T7R with your podium finishes.

I want to say that this race was very eventful for all the admins and teams, and I hope you all enjoyed the experience. The 2 class racing definitely proved to be a challenge for everyone, and our first race of the season couldn't have been any better!

Feel free to discuss any post-race comments here.
