Don't know the exact reasons but an obvious one would be wet weather which is just a killer on cold slicks. People manage to have silly accidents in the wet with the current tyres so could you imagine people on slicks? I've met people who didn't know there was less grip in the rain :S
Throw in all the various surfaces we come across on the road such a mud, snow and ice it would just be stupid to use slicks. How many people are going to whip out a set of wets that's taking up half the boot and back seats, yet alone jack up each corner to change the wheels.
Another reason could be racing tyres have a temperature band at where they work and most people on the road would never get them up to that temperature.
I doubt slicks would be any cheaper than the current road tyres, especially if you were going to chase after racing ones.
Do remember though that you can buy near slick tyres for road going category races such as hill climbs. They look like a slick but have little cuts in them and are pretty much just road legal.
To save me starting another thread thought I'd just ask for advice here too
I've held off for ages on buying a AGP card because I was planning on upgrading to PCI-E. Things haven't quite worked out the way I planned this year so don't have the funds to go spending too much money.
Anyway what I'm looking for is a half decent AGP card on a budget. Currently I have a AMD 2600+ Socket A, 512mb DDR, 350W PSU and currently a GeForce 440MX. Looking to spend around £80.
STR has confirmed that Speed and Luizzi will continue to throw them into the scenery in 07.
Everything is pretty much confirmed except McLaren second seat which I'll guarantee being Lewis, BMW which again I reckon will be Nick & Kubica. Spyker is still a bit open, most likely the driver with the most $sponsorship. Super Aguri will have Sato but not so sure about the second seat, Davidson has strong links with it.
tbh in a real life situation you'd probably do the exact same. In a game if I spin I don't get that o' f**k feeling that I do in a real life situation. Not sure about Formula One cars but certinally in karts it can be tough to hold onto the steering wheel when going backwards at high speed.
Can't think of what accident your talking about off the top of my head either, which race was it?
I've always found it quite strange how many good drivers come out of Finland as you say. I guess it's got to do with sort of conditions out there building up good driving ability and as Kimi said a lot of familys let kids drive there cars at a young age on private land
After seeing that video it looks like for once an accident in the BTCC wasn't caused by careless driving
How much could they do to protect the driver in that situation? It doesn't look to me as if the car has deformed into him but more the impact and energy has hurt him. The drivers body will be pressed very hard into the seat in a side impact so somethings got to give.
Hayden has only won 2 GPs this year, and okay he has finished the races putting him in this position but for me Rossi has had a hell of a job to pull the championship back in his favour. Same with Melandri and Caporossi, I think they'd have been in with a better chance of the title without that pile up at Barcelona.
I think I'm allowed to have an opinion on who I think is more deserving of the title, it's not like I'm trying to change anyones mind or `slag off` Americans.
Keiran
To me it looked like he got it wrong and had no where to go, hit the kerb and dropped it. It didn't look to me like he was going for the pass but have only seen it a couple of times from the shots shown.
He maybe not good in the wet but either is his team mate from what I can remember
Rossi deserves the title, I really didn't think he'd manage to claw it back. Wasn't it like just short of a 50 point gap 8 rounds ago? Hayden imo didn't really deserve the title, he sort of just picked up the pieces. I bet Melandri and Caporossi will be wandering what they could have done had they not got involved in that pile up at Barcelona.
tbh out of the two riders in the repsol garage Pedrosa is the most impressive. I didn't even think the guy would have the weight behind him to throw the thing around. Hayden has won how many GPs this year, 2? and only 3 in his whole career. Pedrosa has already won 2 in his first year.
I doubt Pedrosa was actually aiming to take Hayden out, he got it a bit wrong, hit the kerb hard and dropped it. It's not like he is the only rider to get it wrong, look at Rossi last year when he put his foot peg into Melandri's foot.
The problem with BTCC is the drivers drive as if they were bumper cars. I've said for the last year that someone is going to get seriously hurt/killed but the organisers take no notice of this. They are trying to attract the crowd who want to see crashing and smashing of cars.
I haven't seen the accident yet but from what I've read about it this is one of these silly accidents that probably wouldn't happen if they actually clamped down on the appalling driving.
If the rain is anything like GTR2 then it's nothing to write home about. It's as advanced as Grand Prix 4s back in 2001/2.
I want to see proper implementation of rain where the real skill of a good driver shows, not just track surface = -xx% grip. Driving in the rain is about searching for the grip. Does GTR2 even have it rain on certain parts of the circuit? Never seen that happen and it was implemented in GP4 5 years ago.
GT4 says it's very realistic, doesn't make it Funny how Sebastian Loeb claims in front of the media how realistic GT4, but is it?
tbh the price to me doesn't seem that bad for what it is. Blu-ray DVD players are nearly double that money so if you want a blu-ray DVD player the logical choice is the PS3
Whether or not it will be a hit god only knows. Sony will be hoping the blu-ray technology was the right choice but at least they are trying something different. Would there be much point in releasing another Xbox360 with a Sony badge?
Just hope the thing is quieter if my brother gets one, god that Xbox360 is so loud you have to turn the TV right up to actually hear the game.
I remember at the Scottish Super Series round up at Boyndie the commentator called our class Mad Max. First race of the day I was starting about 5th and got a good start. Hugged the inside line but someone on the outside of me turned in putting his rear bumper in my front wheel ripping the valve out. I was busy trying to keep in a straight line when a couple of karts in front of me hit into the hairpin and sent the guy over. Unlucky for him he got stuck in the kart and was trapped under it, as light as they are you don't want probably about 100kgs on your neck. I saw it all happen and it looked sore. Then for the life of me I couldn't understand some people, I came to a stop as there were marshals trying to get on track to help the guy and got hit from behind and got all sorts of gestures from this person.
I think he already had a neck problem so he was taken off to hospital, which in a way was lucky for me as I had to go replace the valve in my tyre. Wasn't allowed to change the wheel because it was one set of tyres for the day and was then forced to the back of the grid for leaving the circuit.
Then our second heat the person starting on pole didn't realise after 2 years of racing that when the lights go green you get on with it. So after a rather slow rolling lap when the lights changed to green it caused a massive pile up as this person was waiting to cross the line before he put his foot down :S. Can't remember if that race was red flagged or not but it was foolish to say the least.
Then in the final in a near flat out corner two people collided and sent his kart barrel rolling end over end about 6 times. The marshals were so busy in shock watching the accident that they were rather slow in throwing the red flag. My Dad got to the guy first and just told him to stay where he is, he came out alright but his borrowed chassis was in a right mess. Raditoatar was torn off and the front hub carriers torn off the chassis.
Got to be joking me illepall Take the game to a publisher who will want to maximize the market as much as possible thus simplifying the game so 3 year olds with there keyboards can play with no disadvantage. Then the publisher will want lots of £sss for `taking the risk`.
When you walk into a games store you will see very few racing games so they obviously they aren't as popular as the other genres, especially on the PC. Now how is LFS going to fit in? Not very well.
If you managed to spend £700 on that you were totally and utterly ripped off. Can get top of the range chassis for £275 brand new, a very good controller for £150, a decent speedo for £100, super stock motor for £30 which will just destroy that what looks like standard 540 motor. Shell and paint will set you back £20. Proper racing rubber £20 and a set of matched 4300 mah NiMH cells for £40, these will totally thrash the cells pictured - £635 will get you ready to go with top end equipment in the touring car market.
My equipment is fairly top end bar my two chassis which are now outdated and the retail value new I'd quote is probably £800 tops and mine is a raceable car. You'll not see any of them cars at a respectable event.
It amazes me how much money people spend on them toys. I feel sorry for them when they turn up to the clubs I race at and find out they need to go buy a race car to race.
Now that's spiteful and childish, never would I step so low to wish someone death or serious illness illepall
I was shocked when the first few laps went by and Alonso's Renault was staying in touch with the Bridgestone's. Taking just over a quarter of a second a lap out of Schumacher at certain periods over the GP. Pity about Raikkonen his McLaren obviously came alive in the race but spent most of it trying to make his way through the field.
So what happened to Schumacher last year when Rubens was actually doing the better job at the start of the season? Was it 2003 Rubens was doing the better job again and Schumacher demanded to have Rubens race car which had out qualified him? We have no idea what Schumacher could do/ not do with the Renault and all we have to base drivers performances on is there team mates. Now this year Alonso has thrashed Fisi pretty much in every race and to think this is Renaults most experienced race driver next year
Alonso has been near enough the top running Michelin runner all year if memory serves me correctly and has done fantastic drives in the Minardi back in 2001. He also pulled out some very spectacular drives in his early days at Renault as well.
Some people seem to forget the budget of Renault is pocket money to Ferrari and McLaren and I'm just amazed at how well they most spend it. Thats one of there critical problems me thinks is trying to keep/get drivers but not have a good enough sum. Alonso's pay will probably double at least when he heads off to McLaren.
Schumacher had an engine failure, the same thing happened to Alonso at Monza. Without that Alonso would have had one hand on the championship already. What JB has pointed out shows me stastically Alonso has been the strongest mentally when things go against him. Schumacher has caused his own retirement twice, Alonso - zero.
One last thing who was slagging off Alonso's engine management and praising Schumachers
He would have been passed by both Fisi and Button had he done that. Massa wasn't on a normal lap thats what goes against the regulations he was slowing down midcorner and driving in a way which stopped Alonso from passing, that is deliberate blocking and is not allowed under article 116B, the very rule that Alonso was punished under at Monza.
The way Massa drove in the opening laps wasn't how he drove his two flying laps He did a brilliant job no doubt about that to out qualify Schumacher but you can't shout foul at another team to get them penalised and then do it yourself.
Are you seriously trying to say with all that money spent on weather forecasting by every team that they didn't see the threat in advance? Even TV pictures showed before the start of qualifying the dark clouds and there was actually spits of rain during the final session.
Now it goes from an outlap to two laps in your one post? He was behind Massa for at least 2 laps being deliberately impeded as the FIA like to call it during Monza.
Massa did a brilliant job no doubt about that but to be the one shouting abuse for impeding during Monza when no one even noticed it until a penalty was issued then to do it deliberately visually on the screen is just illepall Alonso actually slowed down eventually and Massa then got on with it, that means Alonso lost 3 laps.
If you want to turn this into who is strong enough battle that is pretty stupid considering Hungary 03/4 if I remember rightly or was it Hockihme (spelling?) that Alonso lapped Schumacher? Imola 05, Imola 06 and Istanbul 06 to name a few.
From memory he has never cracked under the pressure put on from Schumacher yet Schumacher has cracked three times in the same weekend this year. His two flying laps at Istanbul and in the race he went off at T8. So unless I'm mistaken there is no fact to go against Alonso mentality. We all know how Schumacher reacts under pressure, 94, 97 and Monaco 06 when he saw it all slipping away during qualifying
I shall post more pictures then from the same angel Now correct me if I'm wrong but that's Massa driving slower than usual down the middle of the straight? Don't try tell me that Ferrari is slow in a straight line either as they clocked the fastest in the speed trap.
Who was screaming out about wanting a fair battle with no second drivers getting in the way? Yes, Mr Brawn...
Pathetic and even though Renault are appealing what's the chance of a penalty? In Monza you could hardly see Alonso from Massa's car and here in Japan we have Massa slowing down mid corner and then planting it on corner exit through the fast opening section of the lap, leaving Alonso forced to slow down but have no place to pass. During a fairly critical time with the threat of rain.
Article 116b of the F1 sporting regulations states: "If, in the opinion of the stewards, a driver deliberately stops on the circuit or impedes another driver in any way during the qualifying practice session his times will be cancelled."
The rule they penalised Alonso under at Monza, who looks closer in the pictures below...
I also noticed that article with the two BMWs and burst out laughing when they said they used deafult setups from both games. If you want to compare them fairly surely setting them up the same would be a start
You are allowed to, don't be stupid. Problem is half your posts are just nothing. A post with` ` means nothing. Quoting your own posts again means nothing.
You've probably got the highest posts per day and you don't stop. You may well be a helpful person in real life but half your posts don't help or mean anything Perfect example is my first post here your posts per day was 18.5 it's now into the 19s, earlier today when I looked at it was sitting about 17.5.
Being helpful is when your posts actually mean something and you actually point people in the right direction. Random smiles and random postings are not helpful.
If you want to be helpful then stop spamming and concentrate on making
posts which are helpful.
