Now we're going to get a bunch of demo racers all screaming for free licenses...
Why can't people accept that some people are being very generous in giving away £24s of money they've worked for. I'm sorry but personally I find these sort of threads are just people trying to take advantage of peoples generosity.
If I see someone else win a competition, I don't scream out asking for someone to give me the prize as I can't afford it... It's the same thing here.
So what you've been here 3 months, there are actually demo users who have been here longer and actually done stuff for the demo & licensed community.
Not being able to afford things is life, not many people can afford the things they want without saving up their money... It's a matter of getting your priorities right, you want something? You grab all the opportunities you can to make a bit of cash and save it up to buy it.
You want LFS for free? Well then I guess you're just going to have to do what the others have done and look out for opportunities to win it...
If your that tight on HDD space then I'd consider turning downloading skins off.
eh? Struggling to understand. If your suggesting I pick up pennies for the whole community I think you missed my point... So I've explained it below:
If somone is that tight that they want a complicated system so they don't download the odd skin that they feel "isn't worth the money" over 0.0005p then they may as well be picking pennies up off the pavement... Hell even 1p will keep you going a few months so you don't have to feel you've lost anything.
That's just one of these things. As has been mentioned the cost per skin isn't high at all.
To the people who are concerned with downloading a skin that they don't feel was worth their money, pick a few pennies up off the pavement... I'm sure you'll soon recover your `loses`.
Did look at one but not very funky/eye catching. The car will be advertising our business and new service (gifts on the go) while I'm out in it so needs to be quite eye catching.
Just not that eye catching is the problem.
Looks like a pensioners car , not sure if I'd class that as funky
Also ammendmant to my first post, should be 107 not 106.
Thanks, didn't think of the Swift. Shall look into it!
The stuff that it will be carrying are items that would fit on the passenger seat and rear seats etc so there will be plenty of space. The only thing is I do R/C racing so can carry quite a lot of gear but I'm sure it would fit with the rear seats down. The only plus to the Clio is it has a good boot size.
Might try and get to my local dealer for a look/test drive of one next week.
Hehe
It's my clio If I remember correctly it's a 1997 model. Tbh I'm staying away from Renault, they are a pain in the ass to work on when something goes wrong. Not to mention they seem to be bad on CVDs, even one of the CVDs are going on my Grandparents 2003 model and they drive like pensioners do... It also costs me £115 a year to road tax and gets just 45MPG when driven very carefully.
The story is that my Mum has a new idea to expand her business and it requires a little car to nip about the city and I've been nominated as driver.
My car (Renault Clio) MOT and road tax is up next month so my plan is to get it through the MOT, tax it for another 6 months and sell it. Problem is I need a new CVD as the passenger side one is knackered and making a lot of noise Seem to be a common problem as so far I've had no luck finding a car with one still intake at the scrapyards...
Anyway, the question is any recommendations for a small `city` car. As it will be the car I run around in most it will do the occasional dual carriage way trip but tbh as long as it hits 70mph I'm not fussed.
The current list of possibilities:
Toyato Aygo
Toyato Yaris
Peugeot 107 (not so sure on, after my experiences with the Renault...)
Second hand price of upto about £3/4000
Requirements
Must be quite funky looking, is going to be stickered up with my Mum's new idea
Good MPG, heard the Aygo can get something like 60MPG!
Cheap road tax band, £35 per year
Group 1 insurance
And finally must have at least enough space for 4 people, for the occasions I find myself transporting my brothers about
Yea, that one is me aiming more at the higher resolutions but trying to at least accommodate the minority who are on 800x600. With the margins in place you don't really lose anything important off the page if you happen to be a 800x600 user, well not with a resized window in Firefox .
My latest two websites have been designed to fit inside 800px width. The reason for this is I think our customer base are probably not that into their computers so could have quite old monitors. Either way they aren't too small that I struggle to fit the required content so I think it works.
675px wide, so comfortable viewing for 800 resolution.
I'd have thought you'd be safe making it fit 1024 width, 9xx px. Most LFSers that require to look up your site are going to be running that or higher. My resolution for example is 1152 x 864.
What it would take is someone from the community running a league to get in touch with the TV channel and propose the idea to broadcast races/highlight clips.
Something like the STCC would be the perfect example.
Electric R/C car against a Mini GP, ignore what Vicky says. That isn't a nitro car, it's a brushless with a LiPo. Met Andy Moore (guy racing R/C car in video) couple of years ago and will again in 4 weeks time .
Right, you list all the luck Alonso had in 06 to back that statement up, as IMO it's utter rubbish. I count more problems for Alonso over his rival that year, Schumacher.
I could say Schumacher is 7WDC because of luck but that would be lies. Sure it seemed like he had a lot of luck but when it comes down to it, you make your own luck.
As I've said Alonso didn't become 2 WDC and land a nice big pay cheque this year because of luck. What I've seen this season was him kicking Lewis' ass in Sepang, by some 20 secs. So far Hamilton has failed to beat Alonso by that sort of margin, 12 secs being the largest gap so far. You also have to remember the floor was pretty badly damaged and a bit of the front wing if I remember correctly after his off at T1.
Pedro? He never impressed me during his time in a race seat, wasn't he the one who put a Jag road car on its roof thinking he was driving an F1 car...
So far it's Alonso 2, Hamilton 2. 2 points between them, I for one really look forward to these two battling it out and along with the Ferraris it could be a close season. It's been a long time since I can remember their being 4 potential race winners in F1.
2006 Schumacher had everything in his favour to win the title but threw it away. Alonso had more car problems than Schumacher through out the season and some very weird penalties, especially the yellow flag one where the car practically stopped to let him past... The Ferrari/Bridgestone combination last year was easily the quickest most of the season.
Which driver stuffed it in the wall at Melbourne? Who was the one who got himself involved in contact at Hungary? And generally was driving very poor and unfairly, overtaking Pedro by missing the chicane and for the FIA to change the rule to make that legal... Who parked it in Monaco to ruin other drivers laps? All missed opportunities that he could have easily picked up the points he needed.
So to even suggest that Schumacher lost purely because of the car over talent is quite frankly rubbish. I think Schumacher was an exceptional driver but a flawed one. He just had an attitude of winning at all costs and if that meant taking other drivers off the road then so be it, and that is the first thing that pops into mind when I hear his name. Not only that but always wanted a poorer driver in the No. 2 car, never wanted a challenge.
I think Hamilton is doing well, but I'm not screaming from the roof tops about it. The performance was to be expected. He has had the best of everything since he was 12 and has had more mileage in the McLaren than Alonso. So far 4 races in, he is doing well but what we need to see is how he continues that as the season goes on. We saw in Sepang that when Alonso had the car hooked up he was away from Lewis, some 20 seconds up the road.
I still think Raikkonen and Alonso are finding their feet in their new teams. Getting used to a whole new car/environment/tyre etc. For example, look at how different Alonso drives the McLaren to the Renault, he is so much smoother. So I guess the Renault suited the more aggressive style, hence why he did it and probably why Fisi driving a lot smoother very rarely saw Alonso for the whole race.
I'm really happy for Coulthard, these last two races he has really been on the ball!
You can't disqualify a car when there is no reason to... All that caught fire on Massa's car was the fuel. Once the fuel burnt out that was it, those cars are well shieldied against heat and such a brief fire wouldn't have done much.
Not really, we are only 4 races into the season. McLaren have always allowed their drivers to have equal status until it comes to a point where one of them isn't in contention. Sure Hamilton has beaten Alonso the last two races but there is still a long long way to go. Alonso seriously out classed Hamilton in Malysia by nearly 20secs.
You have to remember Hamilton has a lot more mileage in the McLaren over Alonso.
Either way when it comes down to it the pace of the Ferrari and McLaren team mates are all pretty equal. It's just Kimi and Alonso seem to be struggling to transfer that over to their race setups.
Me thinks you fall too much for the medias way of blowing things out of proportion I just laughed at how people reacted to something (can't remember exactly what it was about now) that Alonso said in a press conference (which can be found on f1.com) that the media took totally out of context, but never mind .
You don't become WDC by chance and you certainly don't do it twice if your not good enough. Ron has Alonso not only for his driving ability but for his ability to help guide the team in the right direction.
Not find it odd that Renault dropped right off the pace this year and McLaren seemed to find themselves at the sharp end?
Reason the GP2 cars can follow so closely is they are using the floor to great effect. F1 teams are very restricted on what they can do under the car to create `ground effect.`
Very close at the top, I doubt there is going to be much difference in fuel between the team mates. People always make a big deal of it yet it always ends up being no more than 2 or so laps. Alonso put a stunning time in on used hard tyres and a race load of fuel (8 seconds semingly, although no one knows for sure).
As far as I'm aware Becky's program uses the Relay to find out the position of the cars. To me it makes more sense to show Demo racers what happens on S2 servers than let them watch replays.
Why not go one step further and have an official race watcher like Becky's program? Seems like a better idea to me where anyone new to LFS could watch in 3D, online races in S1/S2.
The developers give us so much for free as it is, a lot of online games charge monthly for the use of their services. We as a community relay on the servers that provide us the host list, the forums and LFS World. These are not free and your measly £24 doesn't cover that.
I'm sure you can find a way to pay that £1, postal order... cheque... paypal, the list is endless.
In all seriousness, it's always sad when someone is killed but as the warning signs say for spectators motorsport is dangerous.
Spectators must take responsibility for their safety especially at a rally event where it's impossible to marshal everywhere. Look at how many people park themselves on the outside of corners or down service roads at hairpins, it's crazy. I remember seeing Solberg lose his brakes and was trying to use the handbrake to stop himself from hitting the crowd who were on the service road.
At my local club we had (not sure if the problem still persists, I guess so) a problem with parents sitting their children on top of the safety barrier using the tyres as a foot rest. Even after warning they'd often just move along and do it again. If a kart was to go off there is a chance that the child could get hurt. My Dad has cleared that fence before in a 210 gearbox when the needle popped up out of the carb.
Ultimately by being in the confines of a race track the spectator accepts the risks. So they should be thinking hard about where they stand.
When I saw that `5 wide` I thought here we go, maybe one car will make it out alive while the rest all pile into the tire wall in all directions at the chicane. But no, they kept it together with a nice bit of driving, that's the sort of driving that should be promoted in the BTCC yet isn't... The excuse of it's the nature of tin top racing doesn't go with me. Sure exchanging paint is to be expected but not body panels...
Brand Hatch on the other hand (Round 1 of the year) was an utter disgrace in comparison of what I caught of it. Cars being half spun and hopeless attempts at `passing`... What they were classing as attempts to overtake I would class as wrecking in LFS terms
Once you build up your confidence you'll soon find the speed. Newer tyres will probably make you quicker and give you more confidence but then it's all relative. With new tyres braking distances will become shorter and corner speeds higher so it really stays the same when it comes down to pushing it hard. Hope that makes sense .
It's good your taking it steady though and building up the pace. Heard of many people spending big money from karts to sprints/hillclimbs and going hell for leather in their first couple of events to have a big smash and never race again.
Well of course I don't put the brake lights on if someone else is behind them, as I know for a fact that even the 2 second gap isn't enough to stop the likes of my Clio to the likes of the common Audi. Not to mention the fact some poor guy on his motorbike might be there, so I do make sure that there isn't a huge risk in it.
Each to there own then. The only way these idiots learn is when others put them in their place, so to speak. If I'm having to do this to someone then they have been following me too closely for too long for my liking. At the end of the day if they hit the rear of me it's 100% their fault, even if I disconnected my brake lights.
Fact is following me at 70mph, sometimes so close that I can only see the top half of their headlights is not on. If I wasn't fussed about my safety I wouldn't tap the lights to give them a warning. For all that guy knows I may have to perform an emergency stop or a tyre might blow out, how is that person going to have enough time to react?
I use the hand brake coming up to junctions when coming out of town (i.e 30mph speed limits), and I start braking with it very very early so it's a very gentle stop. So all it usually does is signal to the person behind I'm not happy with them.
Maybe I come across as a bit of an `arse` with what I'm saying but if someone treats me with no respect on the road they will receive none back. I manage to drive everyday leaving plenty of space to cars around me and if I ever have to overtake I make damn sure it's safe. So far I've done this for a year now and haven't even recieved a dent or caused any accident behind me.
These drivers that think they are `elite` need to be knocked down a step and realise that they have no right to involve innocent motorists on their search for some kicks.
