Quote from [DaEmOn] :A player called Skewen or Scewen joined my server in PINK text, but he wasnt in server list, so i couldnt kick (he has speed hack) but when he left himself, someone named [LISA] in Pink left the server, (but his name went at same time) bit confusing.

Anyone watch out for Mr Pinks.

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :If your being pushed near the back on straight and corners you need to speed up mate if you don't like it and put more time on that combo.

No, if he's pushed near the back on straight and corners he needs to stop racing with morons who have no idea how to race.

This thread might help you out.

I also use the DDS Thumbnail Viewer so that I can see the DDS files thumbnailed in Windows. This makes browsing files in My Computer/Windows Explorer much easier. Clicking on the thumbnail expands the image to full size on your screen.

I use 2048 x 2048 for all of my own skins and for the skins of my buddies. LFS World will only take 1024 x 1024 which is still much better than 512 x 512.

I'm not sure why 512 x 512 is still used, it does little for LFS' reputation when it comes to appearance. Well that's my opinion. Having said that, the smaller res is useful for older PCs that might struggle with the larger textures.

Quote from wien :With 8X AA? Mine sure didn't. (This is at 1920x1200 BTW. At lower resolutions it might handle it.)

No I'm not running at that high a resolution, but you don't need to run that high to enjoy LFS.

Quote from JeffR :....and fast laps on the old track was more like two carlengths away from the curbing.

Fast laps were not possible two car lengths off the circuit. Maybe your definition of "circuit" and understanding of "car lengths" are inaccurate? If you were even one car length off the circuit you'd be on the grass or in the gravel trap. The track hasn't changed that much either.

Even if it's a "Goes Like Hell" edition, it's still an 8600GT, which, at it's heart, isn't that good.

I'm using a 7600GT and it handles LFS with its ram chips tied behind its back.

I haven't been to a cinema in many years. No way am I going to give my money to a company that charges $40000 for a packet of chips and a small Coke.

The ads go for too long, the audio is turned up just enough to cause permanent hearing damage, the seats are uncomfortable and the staff are ugly and rude. And if you try to have sex with the cute girl in the back row they throw you out. WTF is up with that!?! :sadbanana

No, not really.

For what it's worth, I recommend saving for a decent Force Feedback wheel (not a cheap one). Without a force feedback wheel LFS just isn't the same sim. Although it's drivable using the mouse, it's like chalk and cheese, the two controllers are worlds apart. LFS force feedback is a big part of the LFS experience.

Moved to skin tools etc. since this is not an LFS add-on.

Good that you changed your first post btw. Nobody was crying, just setting you straight on simple matter of etiquette and common sense. You probably shouldn't be freely distributing other people's work in the first place anyway, unless you have their permission to do so.

The argument about forcing a view has nothing to do with realism. It's about all drivers in the race having the same point of view. This means that everyone is competing on a more even playing field. That's it quite simply.
It so happens that cockpit view is the most realistic compared to real life, so in that way it is the most relevant choice. Talk about flat monitors and peripheral vision all you like, it doesn't change the situation one bit.

We have the option to force the cockpit view on a server so that all competitors are restricted to the same thing. This is fairer for serious racing. It is a server option and is not being forced on anybody, the host chooses it and people choose to race (or not) in that server.

As long as it remains a server-side option there should be no complaints about it.

Custom views from a cockpit perspective are mostly OK I think, but raising your head up so that you can see more of the track over the nose of the car is not realistic nor fair. Both arguments are pointless in this case. In a real F1 car for example, it is difficult to see ahead and to the side. There is no possibility to raise your head up as high as is possible in an LFS custom view. It is not easy to see out of an F1 car. That's one reason why they are challenging to race. But if you can just crank your neck up like Inspector Gadget, you are no longer being challenged by the cramped confines that you would expect in a car like that.

If that's how you want to race in LFS then good luck to you, I'm sure you'll have fun doing it the easy way and so you should have fun. But when you come across a server that has enabled the option of forced cockpit view, you have no reason to complain that you can't join that server. Options are good, they give us the flexibility to create the online racing environment that we want to create.

Not everyone wants or likes the same things, that's natural. If we all liked the same things you'd all be listening to Spice Girls right about now. Yuck!

One problem with hitting curbs is that the car bounces up and the tyres lose traction for a split second as the weight shifts upwards. In a straight line this may not be so bad but while turning it can cause problems. One way to minimize this is to set a slightly higher rebound damping setting. This slows the rate at which the suspensions springs back. The "bounciness" or rebound is reduced and the tyre may also stay in touch with the surface for a longer period. Experimenting with both damper settings can help to produce a set that is more bump friendly.
Of course every part of any given circuit will be different than the rest of the circuit. As always, a compromise is required so that the car performs well enough across the whole track. But try some experimentation with dampers and other suspension settings to see if you can improve the car's performance over bumps and curbs.
Better contact with the surface should produce less wheel spin, resulting in better control, less tyre heating and wear, and improve the ability to get the power down efficiently.

Remember to backup your original set before you start your experimentation.

A quote from a previous thread....

Quote :
Quote from Scawen :It can't be done very quickly. It would need the graphics and physics to be decoupled and run on separate threads. The method for doing this properly also brings certain other benefits, due to the interpolation between frames possibilities. In other words, the required changes lead on to other things, which should be done at the same time.

It would be about a months work, as a rough guess. I expect to do this some time, as multiple cores seem to be the way of the future. Actually I'm expecting to do this in a future version, after S2, when we could use the extra CPU time to do some things in higher resolution on more powerful computers, while maintaining physical compatibility with slower computers.

Quote from Kencan :Well, I am on my second G25. I had the reverse gear go on me. It showed sixth gear in sixth and reverse. After a bit of a run around, I finally got an RMA from Logitech. They totally agreed that the shifter was broken. Unfortunately, they wanted the whole wheel, pedals and shifter back for replacement.... at MY cost for shipping. I live in Western Canada, and Logitech is in California. 30 some Canuck bucks later, I agreed to ship.(Overnight shipping was more than the cost of the wheel). They eventually sent me a brand new wheel, all very nice, but the reverse gear died with a month.
I'm not sending it back...if I want an h-shifter, it's gonna be a 5 gear transmission. All that negativity aside, it is the best wheel I've had.... bar none! That list includes the thrustmast t1 (elastic band centering), the red Momo, and the black Momo, which is my backup still.

Don't bother dealing with Logitech in the US, they're a useless and lazy lot. They screwed me around for ages concerning my Momo, so I contacted the Europe office and told them how pathetic the US office was, and I was treated very well with prompt service and useful advice. Since then I have had other contacts with the European guys and they have always been marvelous. They don't make weak excuses, they answer your mail, and they get on with customer service with no fuss. They also know their products.

Quote from CallumCraddy :Hey i have just made 3 new skins
XRT Flame Sponsor
XRT Tokyo Drift Stagecoach
XRT HIN Sport England

They all suite the car very well! fell free to take them
Please tell me what you think, thanks
Any requests i might be able to make skins for XRGT (turbo + normal)
As long as you include pics, it may be possible

A few things:

- The size of your skins is not really correct. As stated above, use 512 x 512, or 1024 x 1024 etc. It does make a difference due to the way video cards handle textures AFAIK.

- Making your skins at a higher resolution (at least 1204 x 1024) should help to eliminate the jagged edges and other low quality issues that can arise when skinning at low resolutions.

- We have a special thread in our finished skin section for posting finished skins, different skin types have their own separate thread. Please post your finished work in the correct place.

Thanks mate.

A setup renaming utility might just add the new required prefix to existing setup names. Most file names in LFS have a character limit. Adding a prefix to a file name that was already long might have been an issue.
The naming and handling of setup files was an important consideration in the recent update. I'm assuming that filename length was considered in this case.

Quote from Hoppers :I don't think the implementation of something like that would be as easy as you guys might think. Something will have to watch that nobody is overtaking during warm-up lap for example. That seems very tough to implement.

But I agree it would be a nice feature in LFS.

Overtake and get a drive through or 10 sec stop/go penalty. Sounds simple to me.

Quote from Maelstrom :As long as it would remain optional I don't disagree on principal but re-drawing the road cars interiors would take a lot of Eric's time.
I would prefer him to work on new cars or new tracks instead of doing this.

They would be new cars. And less time-consuming than making one from scratch. I think it's a consideration that shouldn't be completely ruled out.
