Quote from ksa_land :Anybody remember the slalom challenge with the LX4?
Not sure if it was organized by the devs, but at least supported by them.
It was like a 3 weeks event with a new layout each week and had a separate leader board page (maybe made by Victor?).
There was a prize for the fastest 3 I think.

But that was like 10 years ago (or longer). Can't find any posts or pictures about it on the LFS page or forum though.

I thought that was a great event that kept me login in every day (again not sure who organized this, but I'm fairly certain it was promoted/supported by the devs).

Anyway, liking the new 0.7C version Smile

EDIT: spelling

That started out as "LX Week" and turned into "LX Month". I have been thinking of whether or not we should try it again. I came up with an idea to showcase the LX cars for a week and then Vic created this great online event. Scawen announced the event on July 3rd 2007. There was three weeks of autocross competition and also a skinning competition. Prizes were awarded, much fun was had (and we ate the minstrels).

Quote from lfsrm :Simracing is all about immersion, graphics and physics are both important, a very good sim should aim to nail both aspects.

I agree that lfs was and still (in some aspects) a very good sim, but let's try to not deny other people work, I believe that there's many passionate devs behind those sims (AC/C, iracing, rfactor...) that are striving to bring us quality products, they kept the sims community alive and we even grew in number in these past years!

I also agree that passion plays a no negligible role in a product quality and longevity, but without visibility you might as well give up earning the fruit of you labor, I understood that the hard way, I hate the concept of social media with passion, I prefer the old fashioned discussions platforms, but because I m a graphic designer and my job by nature require heavy exposition to all kind of medias, I m forced to use them to not give up my passion and livelihood.

This is how life goes, it's all about compromises.

Thanks for your reply. You made some good points, though you seem to be rebutting points that I didn't make.

I believe that Steam would certainly sell a lot of licenses and bring many new players into the game, though that may not translate necessarily into improved attendance at events in the long term.

While Assetto Corsa sure does have the bling and modelling detail to attract a large audience, its physics still leave a lot to be desired, at least in my opinion. To me AC still feels like its predecessor; Netcar Pro, with it's general 'understeery' attitude towards rear wheel drive cars. I just can't seem to escape the 'pole up the arse' handling even though AC is certainly an improvement on its ancestor. But the point remains that better graphics and more polys are the expectation of the new customer in the modern era. The upcoming facelift for LFS is sure to appeal to a greater audience.

For many of us I know that good car and world physics trumps high-poly, fancy graphics every day of the week. It's about the actual racing after all, and Live For Speed has never been found wanting in this aspect. Even Live For Speed's tyre model seems today more sophisticated than its modern rivals, and (for me at least) the force feedback - while not perfect in every way - is the most intuitive to be found when it comes down to knowing the limits of your car. The netcode is solid and the rapidity with which one can fire up the game and be racing online remains unrivaled.

Live For Speed is an excellent racing sim, and although I'm sure I can't completely shed my bias, I'm certain that my mind isn't playing tricks on me, and won't be easily changed, either.

Having said all that; I've always believed that any game endures not by virtue of its features, but by the passion and efforts of its community. Pity that more developers don't (won't) grasp this important concept. While LFS will garner more appeal from graphics and physics improvements (and undoubtedly by the addition of more content), at the end of the day it's the players that hold the future of the sim in the balance. A loyal and dedicated community of racers is the answer to longevity.

The suggestion that I have made several times over the last decade to address this problem is to have a special tyre for drifting. Regardless of how realistically accurate the upcoming tyre physics improvements may turn out to be, I think this is still a good way forward.

Time zone is an issue for me.
I'm not on social media.
Worried about high latency under race conditions.

The shine looks about right to me Smile

Would you be kind enough to render my Shinozooka RAC please:

And if it isn't too much trouble, perhaps this XRR too:

Quote from Eclipsed :Well, there was an aussie guy with licence name BENQ,who joined 6 RTFR races many years ago,his ping was high but quite stable (250-300 or so),so we had no issues with him. Especially in the 2 races he won - you can't laghit anyone if you're in front and running away.

Lag-hitting is a somewhat minor problem if you have no cars around you, for sure, but being at the limit of grip when somebody joins the server or telepits often means your car becomes part of the scenery. Not only is it frustrating (especially when it happens several times over a short period) but it usually means your entire race is compromised. And if it causes you to shunt another player, the confidence from your peers is diminished greatly and the potential vote ban which can result makes you look like you are an unclean racer.

Many, many times I've lapped alone online with nobody joining me, or they are joining from the other side of the planet which can cause the issues listed above.

As for starting something, I used to plan and organise racing clubs and events years ago. It always takes somebody to pull their finger out and start these things and work hard to make them a success (as you well know), and I got tired of being the one to do so, to the point where I just wanted to go racing.

I get more satisfaction out of watching your streamed events than I do lapping alone.

Quote from rane_nbg :Check out our AirAttack servers in the evening European times for everyday casual racing, or Fragmasters at Thursday and Friday. There are also some MRc events during weekends and Rony's Tuesday races. So, plenty of activity.

At 350 ping though.

What you are experiencing is probably just nobody online locally. My last race in Australia was in August 2014! I've joined about 1800 hosts and most of those were in the US and Europe 'enjoying' a shitty ping.

The higher traffic on European servers is expected of course, but even there I would say that that the survival of LFS is due in large part to proactive community-building, which has sadly lapsed down under.
Find or secure some local racing buddies and race regularly together, preferably at the same time every week.

I have my fingers crossed that tyre physics and graphics updates might revitalise the Australian and New Zealand LFS communities. Live For Speed is still one of the best all-round online race sims even in its current state of development, it just needs a little bit of love Heart

Quote from Aleksandr_124rus :It doesn't make sense so I'm only adding things that may affect the development of the game, the night is already planned and will be added in the next patches.

Well, the poll question asks what feature you are most looking forward to. Night racing would be such a feature for me, so that's what I suggested. Makes sense to me in that context Shrug

I started making this in 2005, finished it today Big grin

I have kept the design fairly simple, except for perhaps the carbon fiber texture on the hood.

Simply the ability to incrementally control throttle and brakes using pedals can help you to improve your times and remain consistent (and it is of course a more realistic experience). The forces through the wheel are intuitive in this sim and can help you determine when you are at the limit of grip, improving reaction times.

Take world record times with a grain of salt and focus on your own times relative to your racing peers.

No matter which method you use, there is always room to improve your racing and track knowledge - so logically your times should improve with practice. With a decent wheel and pedal setup you will enjoy this (and almost every other) sim much more and your overall understanding of racing is likely to improve.

+1 for sound improvements (at least for engine sounds).

And I'd add night racing to the list as well.

Quote from PopnLochNessMonster :Did anything turn out from this? Would be better than the skin that's currently on there

When I find the time I will probably remake the skin. I have most of the assets made (decals and YF logo etc) but am limited by how much time I can spend using my hands (medical condition).

I am also currently trying to complete an old school JPS lotus livery for the FOX.

Quote from loopingz :
Anyway usually 500ms is usually the maximum you can tolerate, if everybody is around 500ms it will be complicated. 300ms is usually fine. 150-100ms is crazy good butter smooth racing, not a lot of huge fake high ping crashes. under 100ms is nice to have but almost overkill.

In my experience 300ms is terrible and will throw my car off the track if anybody joins the server or pits using buttons. Close racing is impossible.
100 is drive-able (not butter-smooth), but quite acceptable, 150 is starting to get into glitch territory. 40-80 is very good.
