The 8 Hours of Westhill International

Track Specifications
Circuit Length: 5.750 km (3.573 mi) | Track Map
Safety Car In-Race Position: End of Pitlane
1st Safety Car Line: Start of Pit Entry
2nd Safety Car Line: End of Pit Exit
Safety Car Maximum Speed: 130 kph / 80 mph
Red Flag line: 52 metres before start of pit wall

Event Timetable
Qualifying: 19:00 (GT1) and 19:40 GT2 3 May and 8 May 2020 (30 minutes per class)

Race: 8 Hours; Double-file Rolling start
13:41 UTC: Race to Lobby Screen / Grid Stacking
13:50 UTC: Verbal Driver Briefing
14:00 UTC: Race Start - 1 formation lap

Event Specifiics
Qualifying: You are allowed to rejoin after using Shift+P/Shift+S. Drafting is permitted, bumpdrafting is NOT. The results of the two sessions are aggregated to form the grid. Driver credited with the team's fastest lap must drive at least one race lap (not counting inlap and outlap)

Race:

1. Alerting the Administration: Use @sc to alert administration to look at your car or the section of track you were in when you use the @sc command. The Race Control App will tell us what sector you're in (see sectors on track map above). We will then respond to your situation - stay there until we tell you to do something else.

2. Start and Safety Cars: Safety Car will lead the field through 1 formation lap. It will lead the field all the way to the pit entry. After Turns 11-12 (Chicane), the field needs to form into double file, the leader maintaining pitlane speed (with a 10 kph / 6 mph variance allowed). This speed MUST be maintained from that point until the GREEN FLAG - called by the starter.

On Restarts, the Safety Car will pull away from the field after Split 2. It may not be overtaken before it crosses the 1st Safety Car line.

3. Virtual Safety Car: If race control elects, the Virtual Safety Car may be employed. You will receive a standby for VSC message, which is your warning that the procedure will be enacted shortly. You will then see "VSC STARTING IN 5 SECONDS" - after five seconds, the circuit will go VSC, and you must be at or below 100 kph / 62 mph. You WILL get spammed by the race control app if you go over, the stewards will receive a log of these speedings, and will review them following each VSC. We will respond to the VSC-causing incident as necessary, pitlane remains open (unless it is obstructed). We will give notice that the VSC is ending, when you see "GREEN FLAG", the race is back on.

4. Communications: The stewards will be available in the TRR Discord throughout the race, and will have a presence in the New Dimension Racing TeamSpeak (teamspeak.newdimensionracing.com). Please tag @Endurance Pros Admins in the endurance-pros channel if you need us; or come into the Race Control waiting room and wait for one of us.

We strongly reccomend your current drivers be in the NDR TeamSpeak, in the Pit Wall area. We can create team channels if all members want to be in TS together. We will broadcast messages pertinent to the operations of the race to all channels in the Pit Wall. We have a channel where talk power is quite high, only Race Controllers can talk there. You'll not be bothered.

5. Driver Naming: Be sure to be in your proper name format. Car number is to be in your class colour (GT1 = Green, GT3 = light blue), followed by a space, then F. Last - space is preferred after your first initial, but you can omit it if you need that character for your surname.

Example: 00 J. Palmer

6. Race Control App: The race control app will be running, giving track, pit entry, and pit exit status. There are also lights around the circuit that blink appropriately based on track status.

There are lights on driver's left at the same plane as the first safety car line that indicate pit entry open/close status.

There are lights at pit out indicating the status of the exit. Please respect these signals.

7. Miscellany: Do NOT under any circumstances Shift+P or Shift+S during the race without authorization from Race Control.

After finishing the race, please slow WELL BELOW racing speeds after turn 1 and proceed around into pit lane. Select any open garage stall and pull in. The top 3 overall shall report back to Start / Finish Line for podium pose.

Please post any procedural questions in this thread.

Good luck!

All,

I want to start off by thanking you for participating in the inaugural GT2 Challenge. I do apologize for the delay in the results, there were some issues getting the systems back going. Here's some comments from me from round one.

The Virtual Safety Car

Yep, I'll admit it, that was a total muffed punt on my part. I am working on the full procedure. Here's how it should have worked:

The Race Director will call out "Standby for VSC". This is not a fixed trigger, this is a warning that it is coming - continue racing normally. Control will take a moment to prepare the response to the incident, and once that is sorted, the Race Director will call out "VSC IN 5 SECONDS", which is your cue to begin slowing. When the time elapses, the track status will change and speed tracking will begin. We will work the incident while you all tool about at around 100 kph. The InSim app goes through the MCI packets every 100ms, and each time you are over the speed limit (there is a bit of a tolerance before it trips), you will get one slow down message, and it logs your name and speed and time to a file, that the stewards will examine your case.

Once the situation is cleared, you will see a message "VSC Ending shortly". There will be no time warning with this, the actual restart is at Race Control discretion - but it'll be . When you see "GREEN FLAG", tracking is off, and the course is clear.

I am contemplating requiring TeamSpeak presence in events where we have this procedure available.

This procedure is not set in stone, so your input is still welcome.

The Preparation

It was very good for us, seeing lots of activity in the server in the days before the event. We hope the mood continues. I hope you are all doing well, and enjoying being back with us too.

I will be clarifying the entry and confirmations procedure a bit when I update the rules book - mostly just allowing deadline extensions if certain conditions are present. I'll have more on that in the coming days.

Button Clutch

The Stewards and I had a good long discussion on this, and a friendly nudge to one of the drivers to check his PM and get us the response we need. Each time we viewed the sessions, we noticed more and more, and know we had the wording in the current Sporting Code to penalize it, but we were aiming for beyond a reasonable doubt, and we found times that blew that up. The drivers did use button clutch. but no macro. As I posted in the protests thread, we will have words on it back in the Sporting Code by next round.

I think that's all for now. I'll take questions, comments, suggestions, etc.

See you all at Westhill!

Quote from dekojester :Saturday evening, Race Administration received reports of possible button clutch use. This is being investigated. The official results are being held temporarily while this investigation is carried out.

After review, as well as consultation with the suspected drivers, the stewards of the meeting have elected to not penalize any instance related to button clutch use in Round 1. The drivers informed us of their settings, and the available evidence concurred. We thank them for their cooperation in our investigation.

During the course of the investigation, it was observed that a prior version of the Sporting Code had an explicit mention of button clutch, which was removed in the active version since February 2012. The decision has been taken to add this language back in prior to the next round. The rule will be implemented that all drivers are to use either auto clutch or axis clutch. The Sporting Code is undergoing some additional work at the moment, so the updates will still be a couple days away.

The Race Control application now supports custom pit lane speed checking. It will put speeders to a file the stewards will be observing. It does not yet have a custom dt/sg system yet, so those will be done manually still. Further details in the briefing before the race.

Quote from Scawen :I'm not sure how these things will go and should be careful about making up the answers on the spot. But I guess it would be OK for a post in the leagues section to link to another post in the VOB mods section.

I will wait a bit anyway to work on an idea for this, to see how it sorts itself out, but it was a first question. If I think of any ideas/suggestions, I'll let you all know!

If I or anyone wanted to run a league or organized event that would otherwise be under the leagues section, we’d have to run and advertise it in this VOB Mod section only, aye?
