Press V until you find the chase cam view
Then go into view options. There is options for smoothing, height, angle, speedo gauges and all sorts of stuff for it.

Edit: ok my bad, like dawesdust says, you cannot hide the gauges. Except with CTRL + F which will hide all of the HUD

Quote from 240sxdaniel89 :yea i agree with you there. i my self like games that are always being updated or has some progression on it. far as the LFS Tweaks that gets old in single player, i hate using tweaks on MP due to messing up pb's. The big game developers know this they just do what has worked best for them in the past scared to take on new challenges that would be involved with implementing a racing simulator with GT5 or project cars quality while keeping to the physics would be very cpu and gpu intensive i believe but i don't know that much about computers.

At the moment I think LFS is mainly CPU intensive and that there is plenty that could be done on the graphics aspect without decreasing the FPS that much. On the other hand, I don't really think LFS needs better graphics than it has already but there are a couple of things I think could be added.

I reckon on the FX aspect LFS would benefit the most from better smoke and dust particles, better sound environments (engine sound generation is amazing as is, but I think some better echo and some EQ effects would make it even better.)

More view options. Even though I gotta say I love the versatility in view options LFS offers. I think some options regarding view leveling as well as realistic G-force head movement (optional of course) would be really nice.

Quote from Keling :It is a problem, but not a big one.

When your eyes are forced to change its focal length due to the high pressure, where you WANT to look at simply doesn't matter. The end result would be the same. The effect here is not additive, it's a cut-off.

Yes, WHEN the eyes are forced. But if they were to introduce DoF at all, whenever your eyes aren't forced to change focal length, which is most of the time, it would just be unrealistic because you would want to look at stuff out of focus but it's blurred out because the computer assumes you're looking at something else. The effect found in NFS Shift just seems to be a screen bluring once you get to a certain speed.

Quote from Whiskey :
This will only be an issue during huge impacts, and bearing in mind that the damage system in LFS is so poor, I think it wouldn't feel right to have that much realism on that rare thing.

Ideally no one should crash, that's why there are sand banks and stuff on the tracks. Since you're supposed to avoid crashing at all costs, it doesn't make sense to add eye-candy for something you shouldn't do.

Quote from Keling :
If LFS had physics-based DoF, it should be possible to calculate how much pressure is acting on the eyeballs and apply blur accordingly. Greyout and blackout are much harder to quantify though.

For now I believe a head physics update is more important.
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/brain

The only problem about DoF in LFS is that the computer can't know which focal length to use. There is no way for the computer to know which part of the screen you're looking at and there-for it's impossible for the computer to know what should be in focus. For instance, if the focus point was in the next corner, you wouldn't be able to read your gauges.

In FPS games it's simpler because you can simply set the focus to whatever your crosshairs are pointing at.

Quote from Nadeo4441 :The tyre smoke is to be improved when the new tyre physics come out. Don't know if Scawen will fix this, but he mentioned something about tyre smoke. (for ex. tyre smoke will be coming out of the whole tyre instead of just the part making contact with the surface)

I think it would be better also if each smoke particle started off with the same velocity as the tyre and then slow down with air resistance. Right now they spawn without velocity. Since the particles can fly away with the wind they must already have variables for their velocity I guess.

Quote :Under increasing positive g-force, blood in the body will tend to move from the head toward the feet. For higher intensity or longer duration, this can manifest progressively as:

I don't think this really applies to cornering with a car. I don't think such post processing effects are necessary.

I've seen the shuto kousoku films but not that Drift GTR one. Gonna watch it now. Another nice racing/fighting movie is Thunderbolt with Jackie Chan

Edit: That Drift GTR movie had the worst production quality :P . Looked like a school project or something :P

But making a thread remotely similar to another thread without using the search function first is the worst sin of them all.

Are you blind? There obviously aren't any tyre physics at all. People these days.

I've had a G25 for 4 years.
It's noisy and the pedals are occasionally flickering a little bit (I kinda think it gives the car a nice backfiring style sound in game tho)
I run it at 60-100 force in LFS depending on car and mood. (102% force in the profiler)

The gear case inside the wheel assembly has a crack in it. (Probably since I like to put my weight on the wheel as I reach for the keyboard)

But all the glitter aside it's been getting the job done for 4 years. Soild.

Just in case someone is looking for a honda/AE86-ish sound.

It's not 100% accurate but I think it's better than most other ones I've seen around :P
Works best with XFG and XFR.

It's definitely not the first time it's been suggested. And I'm just quickly gonna sum up what I think of the topic.

Making a new map which is a big city? No.

Adding collisions to existing roads and maybe adding a few new routes on South City? Yes.
