And (not trying to be a smartass or anything like that) to be honest "this" here always picked up my attention:

Yeah i hope the AI eventually gets better and all but...

I think LFS is *really* (as you can see in the picture) geared towards online multiplayer, more than any other racing gaming ever released.
Hell, we even got the best multiplayer features of any racing gaming released too. Wonder why

ps: 1140 players online? that's sweet. whats our record?

What i would like to know is if Patch V will be a compatible patch with U30.
If yes, it's all good, i"ll keep using it till the sound gets where i think it's better.

If not...

ps: i've read all THIS thread and saw nothing abou it...

Quote from Flycantbird :
As the sound develops, would it be possible to allow the user to choose between the original ( patch U) sounds / or the newer sounds - or would that present problems in on-line play ?

That's an interesting question.
O would like to know that too.

Quote from Renku :From the past I've learned, that running the replay higher speeds may cause different results in some of the tables. The top speed chart is definitely affected and IIRC there were some others. I tend to run all my stats "on the fly" these days. It's not possible always, but . You could test it yourself, first a replay at x1 speed and then faster. How fast? I'd recommend the speed when the replay is still fluent. But if I had to do the stats from a replay, I would always run the replay at normal speed.

Is it heavy at all, to run "on the fly"?
My specs are posted above.

What do you think?
If it's viable to run on the fly, i"ll do it.
It"ll be a lot better to have the results as soon as the events ends.

Quote from smith :Meanie, use any speed which doesnt cause lfs to stuck up and stop reacting to your input. 8x and even 16x (in case of low players count) works for me. you might also want to switch to car wheels view prior to speeding up, what significantly reduces system load.

and yes, everything except braced words in templates can be changed.

I'm aleady translating it and it's looking good!
Thanks man.

If you wish i can send it to you later then, if you have any interest at all of having a "portuguese" version hehhe.

Ahhh, if you can, please take on the question i asked Renku too.
It would be nice to have your opinion on that.

Thanks again.

Hey smith, thanks a lot for your proggie!
I've got a question tho (i've read the supplied readme.txt):

How (if possible) can i translate some of the "terms"? I just want to change the name of the "fields", you know?
I mean, i want to put stuff in portuguese (no funny characters), should i just change the template or something? Will that work?

Thanks again for the applet.

Edit: This is my PC:
MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum (Nforce 4 Ultra)
A64 Venice 3500+ (@ 2300 MHz)
HDD SATA 200 GB Samsung (8MB Buffer)
2GB Ram DDR Samsung TCCC Dual Channel (2 x 1GB @ 440MHz - 1T)
Geforce 6800GS CO SE eVGA 256MB (500/1200) PCI-E

At which max speed i should run my replays while i'm using LFS Stats?
(Yeah i know that "Shit happens" hehehe but apart from that...)
Some races might take a really long time to finish, you know.

You think 8X would be "safe", or maybe 16X?

Quote from bbman :Yes, as soon as you are being disconnected, it saves the replay (which was recording up to that point)...

And if i'm not?
That "temp" replay which lingers there... is the "last" race replay?
Does it work even if it's a replay cut short due to a disconnection?

I ask this cause having auto-replay on while solves this problem creates another one: one million replays in no time hehehe. Tilt

Quote from Scawen :Well, I already said that I had made a note to do this extremely quickly.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=288682#post288682

So there's no need to try and convince me of this. It's been said so many times now, and I've already agreed to do it. In fact I've already done it in my version.

We've got to watch out for repetitiion here - as usual it will slow me down. I'm trying to take this thread seriously, so please people, READ THE THREAD before posting!

Sure thing, sorry my man.
I was just replying to Al, why it isn't "so easy" and all to do, you know?
In fact he was the one who didn't read (apparently), maybe i should've just directed him to your earlier post but i thought i should point that yeah, "we" already thought about what he suggested and it didn't work and told him the why. That's all, no offense intended.

I've read your quick notes and in fact i already posted them on our brazilian league forums and all that good stuff.

I'm glad that will be changed.

Keep up the good effort.
"Auto" Replay Question

Hello, i would like to know if when a server goes down, if you have auto replay on, the replay of the race so far till the server got off is saved?

If it isn't, is such a thing possible to do?
Saving after you "get out" (since the server goes down, you get "kicked" from it hehe) of the server?

Sometimes servers do crash and it's nice to have a replay of the action till the server got off for various reasons.

Thanks.

Quote from al heeley :Isn't this why there are individual sliders for the volume level of these separate items?
Why not just turn up wind noise and skid vol boost, turn down engine vol a little. Simple but effective.

Even if you do it it's wayyyyy too low.

You can bring the engine sound to its minimum and skid & wind to it's max (which really isn't much, just .5 on a 2.0 slide bar where 1.5 is the standard option) and still you won't be hearing any wind or skid sounds, even on open wheelers at high speed corners and "drifting" and so on.

Sorry for not commenting about the other issues but what i really, really, REALLY *NEED* is to be able of hearing my tyres.

Even with everything on "max" (skid on max, engine on min) i really can't hear it.

It annoyed me so much that i even went back to U30.

ps: i had unlocked my S2 just once, when i bought it, then today i unlocked it for U32 and then unlocked back to U30 again, now i'm left with no way of further testing U32 but really, i don't want to, unless i have some tyres' sound *pretty please*?

And if it won't get any better (tyres issue) maybe there could be an option to use the "current" sounds (pre-u32) on the next incompatible versions?
I would settle for that on a dime.

Else (without an option to keep the "old sound" and this issue not gettin' worked out) it would really drive me away from lfs.

Thanks for the attention...

He is my friend.
Trust me, he didn't accomplish all that. illepall

Yesterday he was racing and then our server crashed.
After that he took a look on lfs world and his stats were all like that.

ps: on further analysis... some of the other top positions are kinda "way too extreme" too, eh?

Probably it was noted already but if it ain't... just a reminder.
Cheers.

Edit: All the others who were on the server already got that bugged status.
I cant point who they are if needed.

Damn, that's really bizarre.

Quote from Nard :Or like me, in a week of knowing what the next track will be in our little league race events, I've clocked in over 350 laps on FE Gold, shaving more and more time, and working on the perfect tire setup, trying to figure out what was wrong with my gearbox, etc. Race is thursday, and only today I must have done over 60 laps.

That's what sim racing makes of you.

Heh, i'm new to LFS as you can see and just after i bought S2 my country league started a lil championship which ended on november.
I must've clocked around 1000 laps (yes, 1k, that's right) at the bare minimum, each rac,e preparing for a 50 laps race...

Hey, i've got a second place at least.

Quote from Davo :Now we have two people coming forward being the one that's lapping this guy. Hmmm.

Not really.
One of them said he was the race leader and the other said he was at up to 2nd or 3rd place.

Anyway it might have happened in more than one race too.

Quote from sinbad :95% or racers are excellent when it comes to obeying the blue flags, and 95% of racers know you can't really expect to not be impeded at all every single time. The problem is that 9 out of 10 times a blue flag is shown on a public server it is to someone who has left the pits long after the race has started. That's what annoys people as much as anything else (imo). Because they're not just lapped traffic that for some reason doesn't make it easy for you, they're random cars that have no place on the circuit in the first place.

If you join the race after it has started then you must make 10times the effort to not interrupt the race in progress.

Yep, that's pretty much what i'm talking about.
When it comes to pub races it is the case 95% of the time, or even more.

The races are pretty short and cause of that even if there's some great disparity in times the slower ones are pretty much never in a position of being lapped by the faster ones.

BUT there's always (as i said) the great guys who either crashes or join the server when a race is underway (nothing "against" it, we all do it) AND then SCREW with peoples' race.

That really makes me deeply angry.

If you crash or didn't start the race with the others you're NO PART OF IT and therefore if you are going to use the track while others are racing (even when the race will be over in just a few minutes) PLEASE DO NOT screw my or others' race. Please.

By getting out of the pit (doesn't using the map is no excuse, if you don't use it then you don't join a race unerway and risk ruining others' race) just in front of the people racing or crashing/spinning outta the track and then returning to the track when there's people coming and so on.

Just don't. Please.
The race will be over in a few minutes and then you can join and race with us. But please don't act like that.

The sad part is that 99% of the people who do this kind of thing either do not read these forums or even if they do they probably won't enter in a thread like this or even, if they do, take it seriously.

It's just a utter lack of respect that makes me very sad/angry.
Well, i'm having kind of a bay day too so excuse me if i were a lil too harsh.

Cheers..

Now to the point of my thread... What is the general rules for avoiding contact in a race? Who has the right of way, i guess is what i'm asking. Who has the obligation to avoid who? I'd just like to clarify things because i'd like to race clean.

It would be really great if all newcomers had that attitude of yours.

Have a good read, man.

Another really golden (just golden) thing that happens time from time is someone crashing into the race or joining a server while there's a race on and exiting the pits and entering the track just IN FRONT of the cars racing.

No, the guy can't wait goddamn 5 seconds to let them pass and then join, he has to join RIGHT BEFORE the guys racing pass by and then screw everybody 's Turn 1.

I really, really hate when that happens.
And that happens a lot.
