possible sequential shift protection?
Mako.

Well, the other day, racing on Kyoto National, I found myself downshitfting into reverse a lot, and remembered how in RBR there was an option to have a lock for not being able to shift into R unless you are stopped/going VERY slowly, and the potion to not be able to downshift it it will over rev the car. Now, I dont care for the second, but a reverse-lock (for sequential users) might be a good idea, as rally cars have it, and it's generaly a smart little tid bit.

EDIT: partly, the reason for this happening, was the fact that I could not fully see the gear indicator in some of the cars, which made it hard to not do that on some of the VERY tight corners.

Well, what do you think?

the thing is, I TIRED drifting yesterday... I used the KY track, and the XRT... I prcticed for 4 hrs straight, and still couldn't do it right... so I dont understand why the demoers are complaining... because the XRT kinda sucks.

Quote from Victor :Hi all,

This poll is to find out if it's a good idea for me to clear everybody's online pb's.
Thing is, blackwood's size has changed and all cars are a tad slower, so your current pb's might be hard to break.

So there is the option that I clear everybody's online pb's, but doing that feels like a big infringement towards your hard work, so I'd like to know :

Do you want me to clear your online pb's?

edit - an alternative is : you can also clear your own online pb's - i don't necessarily have to do it for you. You can do that on lfsworld : http://www.lfsworld.net/?win=settings (bottom of the page)

Well, victor, I think that the poll numbers have answered your question, but I would also assume that all the WR's are to be cleared as well with the new patch?

RANT:Well, it's like Mario Andretti's record at laguna seca... shure, it's the BEST TIME, but the track alters so much in 30 years, and the cars change a lot, so while it IS still a record, it does not really mean much, and can't be used for acurate comparison purposes unless the event is run with the same driver and car.. but then again, that driver is now also 30 years older, so that plays a factor in as well.

Quote from tristancliffe :To be fair, it does sound as though you are claiming you made them, and people HATE others 'stealing' their work.

If you had put Decals collated by Daniel..., but made by [list of artists] you would be okay.

But if you want to be marked out as a work thief, then that's fine by me.

Ok, so I understand the value of giving a cited document, but for stuff like this, it really pisses me off unless I know off hand the person, or it was an e-friend or something. Like, lets say I spend hours and hours collecting pics, editing, and doing all this work, but forget to look where I got it from, do you really think I will care to spend ANOTHER 3~4 hrs trying to find all that crap again, just to tell the world that THIS specific person made em? Hell no! I wont go and claim it all and act like I did ALL the work, and mention something like, "images/grafix/etc" partially collected from all over the interent, if the creators of em see this... well, ok... whatever, they DID make it, and I didn't claim it so whatever.

Ok **** it, you win....happy now?

Still, as I already mentioned, what about the LX cars? And the RA? And the FZ5? All those WILL have the ROOM for it, if probably not set up for it "stock."

Besides, YES, IRL, the car WOULD have possible 45 degree lock! you ever do steering mods on a Mitsu Starion for drifting? Didn't think so!

Ah, the pleasure of the mobile phone!
Mako.

you dont need a special car for drifting... we did just fine today, IRL, in a 240sx coupe with adjustable coilover suspension and an exaust. That's it, car is stock otherwise!

See? You dont need a DRIFT specific car, you just need a race-ish car, like the XRR, but a little tamer, with less power, no widebody, no slicks, and no huge wing... meaning, a tunded for racing street car!

XRT- what I'm talking about- XRR

but what IF I want to drift the LX car, or the Porsche? Or maybe even the XRG? With less power, and skinnier tires + less weight, it's actually quite fun, but there is only ONE such car as the XRG in the game, and most dont use it due to the lack of a road it would shine on...
The once and for all solution for the steering lock feud:

Add 45degrees of steering lock as an ADJUSTABLE option to these following cars: for these cars: XRG, XRT, LX4, LX6, and the FZ5.
EDIT: And possibly the Raceabout, for anyone crazy enough to drift in that!

This means that, stock, the setting will be at 36degrees, but you can adjust the slider to 45degrees if you want.

This factors out a lot of the common arguments like:

1) not enough room due to suspension/etc.

Well, on the LX cars that's not a problem at all, the XRG/XRT seem to have plenty of room as well, and the FZ5 is supposed to be a Porsche, which, yes, few will have the balls to drift in real life, but it
does have the room for huge tire movement= confirmed.

The FWD cars are not included in this, and the RA is a kit kar, so it has room/ adjustment option for this as well.

2) Too much lock for racing cars:

The GTR cars, and the formula cars are not included, so no problem there.

3) Unfair advantage:

Well, since, as stated, "a person who really needs 45 degrees of lock will not be in the front of the pack anyway". Hence, it's not really an advantage at all.

Let's see, anything I forgot?

PS: how is the "official" thing going guys?

Quote from Glenn67 :That was a major problem for me with the LSD before patch X30, I used to use high preload to avoid it (i.e. 200 - 400)

With the new engine intertia improvements I have found this problem to be almost non existent now Since X30 I've been setting up the LSD with 20-30 Power Locking, 30-40 coast locking and 20-60 Prload with very good results.

That is the aspect of the new patch that caught most of my attention initially

I personally think we must be pretty close to phasing out the Locked Diff from LFS as the LSD seems pretty good since X30. It was only ever put in there for comparison, it wasn't ever ment to be a viable alternative to the LSD There is simply no need for it anymore. People will not like it though as it will take some time for people to relearn how to setup up a car

So I agree fully with Axus, I suspect he might know that though

Here's the funny thing through, I FULLY support this, because this actually makes sense, but I'm one of "Those people" who still hate the fact that we cant have selectable 45degree lock.

Quote from Hallen :I agree with your thinking on this, although I don't know enough to suggest LSD clutch settings.

However, the reason I end up using a locked diff sometimes is the engine bog down problems. You hit your brakes, the engine bogs down, and you end up with this weird skid problem. It only happens on LSD cars and usually only happens if you are turning just a little bit (ie trail braking or a slight bend in the brake zone). It is not so bad if you are going perfectly straight.

I try to use LSD (the diff that is) whenever I can, but I find in the GTR cars, even with setups I have made from scratch using some of Bob's tools, I still have this strange braking problem. I have tried reducing the amount of brakes to the point where you can't lock up the tires, I have tried moving the brake bias mostly to the front, which helps, but also severely handicaps you in a race. Nothing really works effectively, so I end up using a locked diff.

Yeah, dude, I've had that too! My conclusion: you're not driving right! Neither was I at the time. I can't stand locked differentials and other crazy settings like having the dirt tires on the back of the xfg along with +5 toe out on the rear wheels. That kind of setup works, (along with the locked diff) to get the .33 times on Blackwood, but it is such a crappy driving experience, and the car is so unstable, and... I could go on for hours. The thing is, you canty drive right even if you want to, because then you get left in the dust and get frustarted at yourself, when it's really people "legally cheating" to go faster and not your own fault.

This happens in real racing a well through with some things.

You have good taste in airplanes! That is one of the most comfortable russian mid size passenger jets. I miss aeroflot's flights from Archangelsk to Moscow on that thing! Now, a train ticket for 2 is the same price as a ticket for 1 person for the airline, and I like the train better as well.

Quote from axus :You want the revs to have matched by the time you release the clutch to keep clutch slip to a minimum.

That's the thing... I have a DFP, and I use autoclutch, have to... Before, I had the blip on downshift on and cut on upshift OFF. I always lifted, and even turned off blip on cars like the XRG, in which I could actualy do it right withought a pedal. But I just COULD not drive with the blip on downshift off, not before, not now with the test patch. I TRY, really hard, to downshift, and I even have the motion down from doing it in real life, yet the car just refuses to shift down for me, because the autoclutch SUCKS withought the blip function. Now, if I try the button clutch, it works better than auto, but it still doesnt do the experience justice. Hence, please bring back blip on downshift! I beg you guys! A lot of us with the non-g25 wheel just cant race like this!

Also, I'm using 720/540/450 degrees rotation on the cars, and dont cheat, so please dont tell me about the unfair advatage, ok? IN sim racing, this is a factor that people will just have to deal with, untill 90% of the S2 racers have a clutch pedal setup, which wont happen for a while...

Also, on the previous patches, like forced cockpit view, better tire behaviour, and the rest, I always agreed on the chages, party because I already preferred it like this, or because I thought it made sense. Now, I find myself on the other side of the fence...

I think the reason over these arguments, is the fact that someone who has a clutch/shifter setup will never understand the big deal, why people are disagreeing with this new patch, unlike a person who is having a ton of trouble with it. Hence, the whole thing gets biased into 50/50... which sucks.

IMO, If I had a G25, I would probably be all over this new patch, and also not say a word about it sucking, because I would have already been doing it like this, so there was no real change for me... BUT, this is not the case. =[

Quote from kew0914 :I think it the best cos the users are some kind of testers for the game.

more testing & more feedback -> better results

LFS will be unbeatable when the project is finished.

I think another part of this is, the fact that the DEVS even through they could give the game more exposure, they do a lot less with it than possible. The thing is, they could easily pull sponsors like the thing with FBMW, and have a bigger workforce, and get the project a bit more light.. but they are not... and while I dont agree with this 100%, I understand the reasons behind it. The fact is, scavier is not looking to get a bunch of money, but they COULD as a side effect of their true goal, which is creating the best automotive simulator. I tend to think of it as not working for the money, but working for a passion and getting a good reward.

Quote from Woz :There is no universal setting. There are all sorts of max lock values available in the LFS cars.

You are failing to take one other thing into account. Not all cars have the space in the wheel arches to allow 45deg lock. Not everything is black and white. A good example being that bigger wheels = smaller available lock. There are many factors to take into account, not just FWD vs RWD etc.

Scawen changed this ages ago. Everything you can think of saying in support of this HAS BEEN SAID already There are threads and threads of it.

you missed my point and also just used the same excuse and repeated exaclty what I have read a thousand times. PLEASE, I beg you, read my post again, slowly, and let it sink in so you understand what I'm trying to say...if you can do that, I would grealty appreciate it.
